SnowSaver 1.1b2 (Mac OS X)
Works great on my G5! I really wish it had the ability to use a picture for the background rather than just a flat color, though... [alert admin]

VLC media player 0.6.2 (Mac OS X)
VLC is incompatible with 10.3, and returns an error when trying to set the buffer size on the coreAudio functions. Also seems to render DVD play unusable entirely until after a restart. [alert admin]

Apple Panther Java Update 1.4.1 (Mac OS X)
If this doesn't appear in your software update, you may not need it. In the Terminal, type "java -version". If it says build 1.4.1_01-99 then you're all set. [alert admin]

Apple Panther Java Update 1.4.1 (Mac OS X)
I've now downlaoded this file twice, and get a checksum error both times. [alert admin]

Medal of Honor: Spearhead 2.1.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Yes, this game requires a robust video card and CPU. I ran it on my 1.6 GHz G5 with a NVidia GeForceFX 5200, and it runs great. Gameplay is amazing, and so far I have very few complaints. I only wish the demo came with more levels, but I suppose that's the enticement to buy it. [alert admin]

Temperature Monitor 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)
Works fine on my 1.6 GHz G5, reporting a current temperature of 114.8ºF. [alert admin]

distributed.net Client 2.9005.484 (Mac OS X)
Here's the benchmark results on my G5 1.6 as supplied by Crunching Cows: [Sep 20 00:07:24 UTC] OGR: Benchmark for core #0 (GARSP 5.13 Scalar) 0.00:00:16.35 [14,991,058 nodes/sec] ... [Sep 20 00:08:08 UTC] RC5-72: Benchmark for core #5 (KKS 604e) 0.00:00:16.99 [3,469,951 keys/sec] I found mention of a version 2.9006 on distributed.net that said it had been optimized for the G5, but it wasn't in the download list. And unfortunately, due to the slewing on the G5 it gets quite noisy when crunching due to the increase in fan speed. [alert admin]

EvoCam 3.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
EvoCam allows you to use iSight without the 600 MHz G3 limit imposed by Apple. You can't use videoconferencing in iChat AV, but you can use EvoCam to send photos to the web, and use iChat AV for an audio conference to go with the video provided by EvoCam. VERY configurable program, and has all the looks of a professional, store-bought piece of packaged software. And for only $20! [alert admin]

DiskWarrior X 3.0 (Mac OS X)
Much faster than the old version. But I think the policy of requiring registered users to buy the full version again if they don't want to wait a month for the upgrade is unconscionable. I expected that type of behavior from multinational corporations. :P [alert admin]

Shredder 2003-01-27 (Mac OS X)
free space function works fine, although it only does a single pass instead of all three passes. It would be nice to have the option for the full shred for those times when you really need it, though (even if it takes hours). :) [alert admin]

I got a bad download as well using the VersionTracker link. But I went to the XPlane site (laminarresearch.com) and used an alternative link, and it came through fine.

Not optimized for G5 (sort of).
Correction.. I found version 2.9006-485 (still in beta), and here's what I got for the benchmark on my 1.6 GHx G5: [Sep 20 00:25:04 UTC] OGR: Benchmark for core #0 (GARSP 5.13 Scalar) 0.00:00:16.33 [15,014,646 nodes/sec] ... [Sep 20 00:26:03 UTC] RC5-72: Benchmark for core…

A new version of FAP was released today, not sure why it isn't showing up here yet. It's MUCHO faster, and is now more than usable.
