Silk 2.1.4b1 (Mac OS X)
Both the previous beta for Leopard as well as the beta released today works well. I can finally get rid of Apple Garamond everywhere in Leopard. Thanks. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.9.1 (Mac OS X)
Back up (or clone) your HD before using Onyx
Using Onyx on an Intel iMac 20 inch Core duo, and cleaning the font and user caches resulted in the preferences themselves for the user being deleted. I always make a clone immediately prior to using Onyx because I've had problems in the past. I think I'll stick to Yasu and Tinkertool once they're 10.5. compatible. To be fair, the author(s) of Onyx also recommend a clone or complete backup before running the app, but deleting user preferences was a bit much, don't you think? [alert admin]

Bookworm Deluxe 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
On a 30" screen, images are pixelated, although still readable. I want to buy this game, but don't want to have to change the resolution every time. The program does change the resolution of my screen, but apparently not enough to eliminate the pixelation. Please fix and my 7 yo will be much happier (and so will I). Little Snitch 2.0 beta 7 (Mac OS X)
I am a devoted Little Snitch fan and used the previous version for years. The new version 2.0 (I haven't downloaded the most recnet beta released today) was simply put, driving me nuts with the constant popups when browsing the web. I had no idea that a single web page had so many embedded scripts, and that was an eyeopener, but I don't want to have to have rules for each script;at the same time, I don't want to allow an app (e.g., Firefox) to connect willy-nilly to Lord knows what site. Is there a way to categorize/identify "dangerous" scripts that connect to sites which I would prefer not to be accessed when I access a web page? Is there some global way of doing this so I don't get literally 20 popups from LS 2.0 with every web page I visit. Any help appreciated. Ishan Bhattacharya, MD [alert admin]

Hardware Monitor 4.2 (Mac OS X)
Except for the graphics card temperature sensor, all other sensor readouts read "Sensor disconnected" on a MacPro running 10.4.10. Temperature Monitor can read the sensors except for CPUs C and D. I don't know where the problem lies. The Mac is working fine, check out fine with Apple's Hardware Test utility, Diskwarrior, etc. Any help appreciated from a long-term registered user. Thanks. Serene Saver 2 HD 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I like the concept, but these aren't HD movie images. They are blurry and nothing like the images I get from my HD camcorder, recording very similar beach scenes. Please, some real HD movies, please, even if it takes (as it will) a lot of HD space. Ishan Bhattacharya [alert admin]

Menufela 1.5b2 (Mac OS X)
Why is the dock hidden as well?
Title says it all. I'd like to hide the menubar, but the dock is also hidden along with the menubar. I need to see the dock, I use it all the time. Is this a bug, a known problem or a conflict with some other third party GUI app? Any ideas? Menufela is not usable for me because of this behavior. ishan [alert admin]

TinnitusTamerX 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I've filed a complaint as well with the FDA. I don't know whether "medically therapeutic" software falls under their jurisdiction, but I'm sure they'd like to know about it. [alert admin]

ElectricSheep 2.6.3 (Mac OS X)
Tried this on two dual G5s, one running 10.4.3 and another an early beta 10.4.4. Having to keep port 8090 open is in and of itself almost a reason not to use this software. In any event, after two hours, very little was downloaded and the screensaver did nothing. I don't know if the servers on the other end aren't working properly; I have a T1 connection. As I mentioned before, telling Little Snitch to keep port 8090 open "forever" gives me the willies. Why not use a more typical port, like 80 or 443? I'll wait for the next version. Great concept, but what we have here is a failure to communicate ;) [alert admin]

FolderControl and Neatnik Wantabe
But what does this program do? And for USD 15, it had better do something (positive), don't you think?

This looks really very exciting!
Couldn't agree more...I've been using Yep for a long time and Leap really does a great job for all my files. A few spontaneous quits, and hopefully, it will pick up speed in terms of finding documents based on the search criteria used, but just a superb implementation for a search app. I'm very impressed. LS 1.x rules weren't imported to LS 2
I (partially) retract my comments about the difficulties I had using the LS 2.0 betas. After reinstalling it and gritting my teeth for a week with all the popups from LS, I now have it under control, with new popups only when appropriate. I also find it interesting that almost every shareware app calls home at startup, even when the option to "check for a new version" is not checked. I am deliberately...and perhaps perversely...denying…

Couldn't agree more. I'm not even going to bother downloading the upgrade, since I can't go back to 1.1.9. Very clever–and really a tacky move on the part of the developers. USD 11.95 won't break the bank, and I know "business ethics" is an oxymoron to some, but for me, as a business owner, I would lose customers using SRS Labs' strategy. Make it a free upgrade, and when you really have enough features…

The NoScript Firefox addon (I think) prevents *all* scripts from running (I think), which would not let me use Firefox for banking and a whole host of other sites. I'll check it out but i am not sure that's a solution for other apps....I'm not sure what is. When 10.5 is released, (I'm running the latest beta), I'll have to consider either doing without LS or using some alternative. The behavior of LS 2.0…

"Best App of the Century!" -Reviews for a Dollar
At best, this a GUI version of the "renice" command. There are lots of free apps that can do this for you, or you can do it yourself without knowing much Unix–and I don't know much, but I did it. So, don't waste your money on this piece of software. The company is a group of con artists (well-documented by MacNN, Macintouch and others). Nothing to do with being French whatsoever, BTW.
