Freeway Pro 5.0p2 (Mac OS X)
Upgrade Policy (reaction to reaction)
Thank you for your comments, epc. Great things come from open, constructive communication and I'm happy to continue this conversation as such.
I'd like to clarify our pricing policy, originally laid out here.
During our beta period (scheduled to end March 27th, 2008), anyone who owns Freeway 4 Pro regardless of purchase date can order the upgrade to Freeway 5 Pro for $69. This places the total cost of Freeway 5 Pro for macZOT! buyers at $168. This is $31 less than a full version of Freeway 5 Pro during this beta period, and $81 less than the regular retail price of $249. Feedback from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive about this.
Of course, anyone who purchased Freeway 4 after January 1, 2008 is entitled to a free upgrade to Freeway 5 when released.
We don't want to call out specifics, but the upgrade policies of most major software companies are nowhere near this generous in our experience. The total cost of the old and the new version is usually far higher than the retail cost of the software, not less.
Again, I appreciate your comments. Softpress customers are great people, and we would never dream of betraying their trust and goodwill. We work every day to make great software and support our users in any way we can. The moment we start misleading them is the day we might as well shut our doors.

Freeway Pro 5.0p1 (Mac OS X)
Softpress is a company that develops, markets and sells the Freeway family of products. We aim to provide excellent technical support and customer service. We also listen to our users. Softpress is not, and has never been, a company known for “gouging” our users. Our prices for new software are well below what would be expected for the quality of our products and services. We do not regularly demand money for upgrades (like many in the industry). We do however maintain our software and offer free upgrades to sustain older versions of Freeway for extended life spans, as early adopters of both Freeway 3 and Freeway 4 can attest. Last week, to coincide with Macworld and to get feedback from our users, we launched a Beta version of Freeway 5. In conjunction, we are now offering a free upgrade to 5 for all users that purchase after January 1st, 2008. We’re very excited about the new features, and we’re sure you will be too. Some users who purchased Freeway in the last few months of 2007, including those who have commented here, have expressed their view that we had somehow tricked them into buying when we knew a new version was on the way. People that purchased via a recent promo got Freeway at 60% off the retail price, which is even lower than our regular upgrade pricing from 3 to 4. Freeway 5 will not be released until at least March, and that would backdate the free upgrades on release to a minimum of two months, which we believe is fair. Those who have complained, seek to penalize us for offering our existing and potential users a “sneak peek” at our new software, which makes it difficult to receive and apply the feedback we need. Freeway 5 is not yet ready and not for sale. When it is, it will be a wonderful tool for home users and professionals alike. It will empower users and save their precious time. It will be solid and fully-featured, in part because of the users’ opportunity to test it and offer feedback. There will be an announcement about upgrades from version 4 to 5, probably around the release of the second beta. Again, you will see that Softpress does takes care of its users. Until then, please feel encouraged to use the Freeway 5 Beta, enjoy it and let us know what you think. Ian Schray US Marketing Manager Softpress Systems Ltd http://www.softpress.com [alert admin]

Circus Ponies NoteBook 2.0 (v223) (Mac OS X)
Nice app, but iCal integration lacking
I had been eagerly awaiting the release of NoteBook 2.0 for months now, mostly for its widely-touted iCal integration. However, after downloading and installing it, I found that the integration is only partially implemented, at best. In NoteBook, I like to keep track of my Next Actions as checkbox items (who doesn't??). I was hoping to be able to sync these items to the "To Do Items" section of iCal along with the status of each individual checkbox. However, after enabling the sync feature, I found that NoteBook only threw my items into iCal (as a whole new category - NO!) and as untimed, all-day events instead of To Do Items. Useless for me. Come on, Circus Ponies folks... This cannot be hard to implement. To Do Items are even AppleScriptable. Check this out: <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17785> I know, the upgrade was free to 2.0, but I would have gladly paid for this feature to be implemented correctly. [alert admin]

Process 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I've only used Process for about an hour. Process is very nearly perfect for the way I work. I like the interface, and I can see myself using this on a daily (hourly?) basis. The Source feature is what really sets this app apart from the pack. Attaching files to tasks is a no-brainer. Support for Word and Excel files and emails is hopefully coming and will earn the developer my $25 instantly. Maybe in Tiger? [alert admin]

Re: Nice app, but iCal integration lacking
I'm sorry, but "iCal to-do's can't have a date associated with them" is not true. Go to iCal, select a To Do item, and get info on it. There is a due date tag associated with each and every item. As mentioned in my original post, check out <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17785>. Really... Install it and try it on a message or two. It has a feature to assign a To Do to an…
