Apple Panther Java Update 1.4.1 (Mac OS X)

Not from Apple?

I agree with the poster below. Not showing up in Software Update (when was the last time an Apple update didn't show there?) + Not being available or mentioned in the downloads section of Apple's Support site + bad checksum = not enough proof that this is a legitimate update from Apple, in my eyes. I'll forego this one untill I get more information. [alert admin]

Studiometry 1.0b5 (Mac OS X)

Wow...

This is looking so good. Like many other independent creatives out there, our small studio has been looking for the project management / invoicing application that works the way we do. We purchased 2: DesignBase / Studio Boss and iWork. Both were great, but neither had all of the features we needed. We settled on iWork but missed some of the features we'd loved about Studio Boss. It seems like Studiometry takes the best of both worlds and offers a well-rounded solution that comes closer to our full range of needs than anything else out there. Bravo! And keep up the excellent work--there's a lot of us out here counting on it! [alert admin]

JobOrder 11.0.14 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Pricing...

This may be the best product of it's kind, but the world will never know due to an extremely bloated price tag that makes this product unattainable by most smaller organizations. [alert admin]

FontDoctor X 5.5 (Mac OS X)

OK, now it's…

my turn: I pretty much turned all the options off except to diagnose corrupt font resources, as my fonts are already organized and I simply need to find a nagging font problem that keeps wigging Illustrator out. Font Doctor says that ALL of my fonts are corrupt! I threw in the Adobe Font Folio CD and diagnosed those as well. Sure enough, all of those are corrupt as well. Come ON! What a pile of poo. Cisco Aironet 3.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Is anyone NOT…

using a PCMCIA adapter here? I have a 350 series PCI card and this driver (as well as previous versions) simply DOES NOT WORK! If the driver and card are installed at the same time, the computer will not boot. If the card is removed, it boots fine. The card works like a champ in my PC, but I want it in my Quicksilver 733. I've been on the Cisco Tech Support Email runaround for about 6 months now. What machine are THEY testing on? What a pile. [alert admin]

I will say…

this: The storage area for print specs and webserver info is brilliant. I often find myself scribbling this information down on a Post-It note, only to lose it later. No one else that I have seen with a competing product offers this capability with their application. [alert admin]

First, what happened…

to the Project number field?. Second, clicking the 'Reports' toolbar item causes the main window to switch to list view. Why? Third, entering activities is still too intensive for my taste. When entering activity data in the activity window, choosing a rate or a fee will then cause the activity pull down to pull down. I'm sure that this is a feature and not a bug, but it is annoying. It simply takes too long to enter data, as compared to similar products. This should be a productivity ENHANCER after all. Fourth, running invoices (and repots too, I'm sure) is quirky. I get an invoice on MULTIPLE projects even when only ONE project has been marked. Fifth, Client numbers cannot be edited. Then again, what the hell is a client number? I do appreciate the fact that activities for projects other than the current one are no longer dispayed in the activities list. That was confusing and I'm glad it's been cleared up, but until these other things are addressed, I'm going to have to continue use a competing product, even though I have PAID for DesignBase/Studio Boss. Small Business Tracker Deluxe 1.5.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

SpiritWorks: I appreciate…

your eforts, as an all-encompasing app of this nature is sorely needed (even if it is FMP-based), but you guys need to hire a designer to put some rhyme and reason to what is currently an extremely cluttered interface. A good UI design would help with both aesthetics and usability. THEN, we can talk about the $129 price tag. [alert admin]

Really enjoyed version…

1.1.3, although some features I really needed weren't present. This latest version (2.5) has many of those wished-for features, but I can't get past certain odd behavior. Entering time, although appearing more flexible, can be cumbersome. Most of us are used to thinking in terms of hours, so if I worked on a project for 2 and a half hours, I'd enter 2.5-- not 2:30 as is now required. OK, so that's a minor annoyance. Also, how in the world can I control Project Numbers? The system seems to be numbering them automatically beginning with a seemingly arbitrary number, and I can't change them. Aslo, invoice numbers are being automatically numbered by the system, which would be fine, if I could specify the beginning number. Client numbers are the same. The new Activity List is a bit mystifying as well. When I'm working on Project X, why would I also want ot see Activities from Projects Y and Z as well? The activity list should only pertain to the current project. Also, please, for the love of Pete, all of the users of DesignBase are DESIGNERS; we MUST have the ability to lay out our own invoices, at least in the Pro version. Speaking of invoices, anyone with a long logo (rather than a round or square one) gets a microscopic logo on their invoices due to the size of the "container" field in DesignBase; and why is my logo and company info at the bottom of the invoice??? Importing info from an early version of DesignBase? Forget about it. The activities (and their accompanying hours and totals) will not come through correctly. I understand that this is part of the price for improvements and that there really isn't a work-around other than simply re-entering all this data. I can live with that in exchange for some of the new features, even though I have some 100 records in version 1.1.3. Sigh... If anyone can help me sort though any of these things, please, let me know. This product is definit [alert admin]

Cisco Aironet 2.1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

No go with…

AiroNet 350 PCI on a G$ 733 w/OSX 10.2.1. Computer hangs at reboot with a muti-lingual "You must restart" message. No option to login. Continues to do so with each retart. Shutting down and removing the card is the only way to successfully boot the machine. Have tried the uninstall/reinstall method, to no avail. Just spoke with a Cisco engineer and he said, essentially, that it "doesn't work" and that "the driver is buggy." He said he would email me when a working driver was released. Card works fine in my Windows 2000 box, but with it sharing the connection to my mac, there is no way (that I know of) to connect to the mac remotely, either by FTP or otherwise. I was hoping to move the card over to the G4 so that I could remotely connect to it. Crap. If ayone else is having this problem, and has solved it. Please let me know. [alert admin]

FontBook vs. Fontbook

Hold on there, Hoss. Why should they rename this to avoid conflicting with Panther's FontBook? this app has been around for 10 years at least. They had the name first and should be able to keep it, if it's been trademarked. Then, Apple will have some 'splaining to do.
