Netscape X 9.0.0.6 (Mac OS X)

Official Comment...

Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha. I miss communicator from the early 90s. Why is this still being developed at this point? [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.9.2 (Mac OS X)

Crashes on Launch

Wish I hadn't deleted 0.9.1! Crashes immediately on launch. The last thing shown in the log is something related to Growl, which I don't have installed. [alert admin]

Camino 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Firefox is still #1 in my book...

I just don't get why people use external RSS apps. With all of the Net stuff I do to find info, it would be just one more time-waster. We already use an app for e-mail and another for browsing (since the demise of Communicator). In addition to no CSS, I don't really care for the appearance or lack of extension functionality. 2 of the 3 are temporary set-backs. As far as speed, some sites, such as versiontracker, are faster loading up in Camino, but most are the same speed as Firefox. Some sites actually load faster in Safari. Actually, since I'd have to switch to a different app for RSS feeds, Camino is the least efficient overall. Firefox gets my vote. [alert admin]

Roller Rush 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Very cute...

This concept should be developed into a 3D console game! Great idea and a very good start. What a great look back at an American pastime it could be! The game is a cute and, as expected, has a Tapper feel but with a better setting. The girl should be a bit cuter. The intro screen is great, but looks a bit like a grandma during gameplay - but there's only so much you can do with 2D. She should be able to do tricks on her skates (perhaps I missed that upgrade?). I don't know how much new music comes along (and the author may be concerned about copyright issues) but more 50s music would be great. What a refreshing change with a very fun theme! [alert admin]

Cepstral Voices 3.2.1 (Mac OS X)

What's with the pricing?

This is just a novelty for me...$30 for a single voice just for play??? I understand that voice synth takes a TON of work, but it's just not worth $30 for the end-use. IMHO, pricing needs to not only take into consideration the work invested, but the value-added. The benefit of a better voice over the 10 or so that come with OSX just doesn't justify the means for novelty use. Maybe if it came with some cool haunted mansion extra voices and stuff...I dunno. Just not $30 for a voice. [alert admin]

Rax 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Basic Midi

This is an awesome start and very nicely implemented! The thing that would make it useful for me would be a basic midi sequencer...with step-time. I want to be able to manually put in notes up with up to 1/64 resolution. No need for formal notation, just note events. I'm sure I'm not the first to mention it - just want to add my input. I know I can use a separate midi sequencer, but it's no fun having to load 2 separate apps and 2 separate files. I would love abandon the overkill apps that I usually use. [alert admin]

Mellel 1.8.1 (Mac OS X)

Auto Number nightmare

OK, I tried this thing way back and had some issues with missing features...now I tried the new version and went straight to something I had problems with a long time ago - auto numbering. This is totally unintuitive. I have been playing with the progam and reading the manual for about 15 minutes and get get line numbering to show up! I really can't see how people like this more than word - or at least as much. I'd like to..but I can't! [alert admin]

iSMS 2.10 (Mac OS X)

A few problems under X.3.6

I just e-mailed the developer. I'm having 2 issues: 1) E-mail forwarding: I get a 550 error saying that my sender doesn't have a domain. That's easy enough to check - yes, I have a domain on my sender's e-mail. I've never gotten e-mail forwarding to work and would love to see it happen - e-mail seems to get checked fine, but can't be sent! 2) ical integration, as mentioned before, isn't working under the current version of isms. I'm recommending this product b/c it does send SMS messages. Note to the author - I saw your nice post from last year - I understand it's a hobby and you don't have the time to handle 99 e-mails/day, but your FAQ is down and 2.1 doesn't even come with docs! If you're charging for the product, it should work as stated - and if it's user error, that might be because the app isn't intuitive - give us some docs and the FAQ back please so we can leave you to new projectts! Maybe just me

Well, it started off with total opposites of my personality, then went on to give me responses like impulsive at times, but quite hesitant at others...wants lots of attention, but sometimes wants to be left alone...loves the color blue, but loves some other colors too. The question set seems thorough, but the result, at least for me, I'm not too sure about. Try out the demo...I'm no expert on this, so I'm just going based on my 1 experience. [alert admin]

How do I bounce my Logic files to 6 channel wavs?

EXACTLY! That's ALWAYS been the problem on a Mac - no easy way to encode a multichannel .wav!

I would totally buy this app, if it weren't for...

Translation: "I have a sense of humor...as long as I'm the one being funny." That's an interesting comment. I like the lax "atmosphere." If you want something that doesn't have any humor, perhaps you'd like to help me review tech contracts. Legalese is always fun. You'd hate my articles and podcasts though...very tongue in cheek. Are you worried that someone will think you're using unprofessional tools? I find…

OSX

VSamp is listed here because it stayed with/ahead of the times - it was the first sampler to make the jump to OSX. The description could use some updating, but this app earned its OSX wings. All of those OMS things apply to the included OS9 plug-in. I just fired off an e-mail to Malcolm who's always quick to respond...my only issue is that my registration isn't working!
