RapidMaps 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Very Slick

I found this RW plugin to be very reliable, easy to setup, and it does what it says it will do. Worth the money [alert admin]

Readiris Pro 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

I do a great deal of OCR and ReadIris is unfortunately the only game in town for the Intel Mac and now with version 12 they are no longer the game. It just flat out is broken. I cannot rate ease of use because it doesn't work but I imagine if it did work it would be the same as version 11. One hour on the phone with a nice tech sup guy but even he finally gave up trying to get it to work. The ReadIris history is poor at best, version 11 barely worked and version 12 doesn't work at all. I have never had a program that crashed quite like this one. History also tells us that ReadIris probably will take forever to put it back together and even then it will most probably still not work. Still the same odd GUI only they tried to draw it better. A rose by any other GUI is still a rose. [alert admin]

RapidCart 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

It really works!

For those that use PayPal or Google Checkout RC is simple, intuitive and best of all it works. I started with version 1.x and upgraded to 2.x. These guys in Italy seem to know what they're doing. I had questions and they responded in minutes. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

RapidWeaver 4.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Excellent Program

I have used RW for a few months and found it easy to use and I was able to develop what I consider a very slick Web Site. I purchase it at a reduced price but think even at its current price it is a bargain when you consider what it would cost to have someone else build a site for you. I do agree that the templates that come with it are a bit lacking. The third party templates and plugins are very slick and in my opinion is what makes this software rock. I have had occasion to need tech support and received answers almost immediately. I feel the learning curve was fairly easy and I would recommend this software to anyone. One does not need to know any code to build a nice site but if you do you can really make your site even slicker. [alert admin]

Readiris Pro 11.6.4 (Mac OS X)

Poor Poor Poor

I've used ReadIris Pro 11 for quite some time with very mixed results. This "upgrade" is very confusing as the version I have is 11.6.6. Which I received as a "free" upgrade, very long story but was told via email that all version 11 upgrades were free. It also came via an FTP download and not via a browser ftp. I received a response from ReadIris a few days ago (Feb. 23. 09) that a new version (12 I assume) for Mac would be available by the end of 2009. It will be interesting to see if they solve all the bugs that exist and if they can get with a GUI that has rhyme and reason. It is a shame OmniPage dropped the Mac version as it really was a solid OCR program. Interestingly enough I can still make Omnipage work on my Intel 10.5.6. I find it interesting that there is only one company that has an OCR program for the Mac. [alert admin]

VueScan 8.5.03 (Mac OS X)

Less is more

The scanning capabilities are excellent, I guess, but I find the implementation to be overly complex. While I get good scans from photos and the like I find the scanning of film strips to be very difficult to implement. I purchased this software to specifically scan filmstrips. The directions for same are less than helpful. Mr. Hamricks desire to automate the process of scanning filmstrips while admirable does not seem to really work, at least in my futile attempts. Same for slides. Trying to figure the final output of what I'm scanning I find extremely difficult if not impossible. While I would like to be able to use this software I find myself going back to the easy to use TWAIN software that came with my scanner. I guess I'll keep plugging away at it until I figure it out, maybe. [alert admin]

Decompose 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Better than pulling teeth

This tool took about an hour to get the hang of but only because I could not quite interpret the directions quickly. More my problem than the developer. Once I understood how to use the tool I found it really easy to use and it really worked as advertised. I was actually amazed at how well it worked. A real time saver. I'm a great fan of software that does one thing and does it well. This is that type of software. [alert admin]

RWT Buzz 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Easy and Clean

In the past I paid a web designer good money to build a simple site for me. I purchased Rapid Weaver after giving it a test run. The themes that came with RW were okay but I wanted a 3 column theme. I discovered Buzz and purchased it. It gave me exactly what I was looking for. It was easy to use, had a number of extras and a great deal of flexibility. I built my web site in a few days and now no longer need to pay a web designer. As a matter of fact the site I developed with Buzz looked a lot slicker than what I had paid a web designer to produce. Rapid Weaver and Buzz, a great combination. [alert admin]

Yum 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Yummy!

This is an excellent piece of software. The GUI is slick and is very intuitive. If you're like me and cut and paste recipes from the internet then this is the software to store them in. It places the quantities, ingredients, and cooking method in discreet areas. It can print or email a shopping list and can save to an iPod or save as plain text. Best of all you can scale the recipe to serve 2 or a banquet. One thing I would like to see in a future upgrade is a place for a picture. Note: There is a sampler Yum cookbook that comes with the download and does have a few recipes that have metric measurements but most are not. This software is for your recipes and will have misspelled words if you misspell them and the measurements are the measurements you enter. I give Yum a big thumbs up! [alert admin]

NeoOffice 2.2.3 patch 3 (Mac OS X)

Just plain great

I've used NeoOffice for about a month and find it rock solid. Opens everything I throw at it, even word processing programs long gone. If you've been using MS office you will easily recognize the NeoOffice interface. Minimal learning curve. Saves as MS docs if needed and pdf if needed. Their world wide army of users answers any question one might have. As others have said good-by old whats its name. [alert admin]

Import Question

While I have only looked at the screen shots of EZdraw I would assume, and assume is the operative word here, it would not support the complexity and sophistication that Canvas brought to Vector based drawing and then some. Those of us that used Canvas have really found nothing to replace it. Canvas is now totally PC based.

Slightly offtopic, but...

I totally concur on Canvas Mac. I still use it on sys. 10.5.6. as there is no program that comes close to doing what Canvas is capable of (bugs and all)
