USBCat 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Unusable on modern macs.

PPC only? Bleh. Walk down to your library and compile on their "modern" machines. [alert admin]

Gene Construction Kit 3.0b (Mac OS X)

3.0 beta STILL not Universal Binary.

Wow. I'd have thought that the LONG wait would have resulted in an Intel-native app. Guess not. [alert admin]

Weather Vane 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Strange

It runs as a PPC app (instead of Intel) on my Macbook Pro. Looks real nice... all the other menu based weather programs have become pretty cluttered. This tells me what I want to know - the forecast (not radar, pressure, sparrow velocity, etc). [alert admin]

Zarvox 1.1 (Mac OS X)

A second way to do it in OSX

Type your phrase. Highlight it. Option-click on that text. Go down to "Speech" and select "Start Speaking". [alert admin]

Hockey Widget 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)

College scores?

The football widget has both pro and college scores. Any chance of expanding the Hockey widget to cover college hockey scores? [alert admin]

SafariBlock 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Getting SafariBlock to run on 10.5

• Put SafariBlock in /Library/InputManagers/ • In the Terminal, type 'sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/InputManagers' • Supply an admin password • Start up Safari http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071026235641392 [alert admin]

Saft for Safari 3 Public Beta 9.0b6 (Mac OS X)

Upgrades

Be aware that everyone who was using this for Tiger will have to buy it again for Leopard. I didn't realize Saft was essentially a subscription when I bought it back in June of '07, and now it's November of '07 and I have to pay for it again. [alert admin]

beaTunes 1.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Interface slowness causes errors.

I like beaTunes and what it can do. What stinks about the program is how the Library inspector is really slow and often doesn't register a mouse click. These two problems combined can lead you clicking twice on something that you thought didn't register the first time, only to discover that the app is just slow and that the second click has changed something from next offered library correction. This often really messes up your tags. Fix this problem and its worth five stars, otherwise, be very careful. [alert admin]

EndNote X1 (Mac OS X)

Expect to pay twice for this to work with Office 208

a_grothey is right - I bet they'll charge for this, given their history of incompatibility with impending Office releases (See endnote 7 and Office 2004) and then charging you for that fix. Word 2008 Word 2008 will be released in January of 2008 based on current reports from Microsoft. It will not contain the Visual Basic that EndNote uses for CWYW tools. We do not expect any current versions of EndNote to be compatible with Word 2008 because of this change. When we develop a workaround or version of Endnote that is compatible, this page will be updated. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Try AppFresh

Try Versiontracker Pro side by side with AppFresh for a little while. I don't think either fully identify all recently updated software, but AppFresh is free and improving, while VTPro is stagnant. And $40+ a year is a lot of money to pay for stagnant (wait, why do I pay for .Mac again, too?) Whether intentional or not, AppFresh can't be found on VersionTracker. Go to http://metaquark.de/appfresh/ to get a copy. [alert admin]

What about a non medical....

Tough luck, huh? I don't know why you rated it badly if it is not appropriate to your field (unfortunately). The guys programming this are biomedical researchers, so I would find it hard to believe that they would be able to program in all the referential nuances from fields that they don't study.

hello dev?

Or posters with an overinflated sense of importance who don't thread their discussions in the same comment, and instead overwhelm the commentary with their awesome!!! words. Seriously dude - trim your comments and flail it out with the dev by email.

Doesn't completely uninstall... Really?

Thanks for the response. The Wifind info at the bottom of the menu is gone now, although strangely it took more than one restart to remove it. I don't know how many since I uninstalled the program according to your information several weeks ago but only noticed the Wifind info two days ago. The computer's been restarted multiple times since then. What I did was reinstall Wifind, then re-delete the SIMBL…

I'm sorry, you're wrong. The intel/UB update was just to stop people from harassing them. Spiny removed their support forum for Comictastic (but kept forums for their other applications) and their website says no more development. That's abandoned. If you pay for this, and you have problems, you will NEVER see them addressed. Send your money to a charity instead.

MV's competition is now free.

Their website's information is indeed very confusing. The NTI page says they are working on a Tiger patch, and the FAQ says that there is no development for Tiger. So I wrote to them. This is what I heard: "Sorry for the confusion. We are still evaluating whether or not it will be technically feasible, as the web page mentions. Best regards, US Bioinformatics Support" Ambigious.
