iTunes Library Check 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Requirement: "Copy files to iTunes Music folder"...

>>Requirement: "Copy files to iTunes Music folder"... << Why would that be required for iTLC to function? Can it not simply scan the designated Music folder location, and compare that to Library contents? All my music files are in that one folder... BUT, when we keep that folder on other volumes, we do NOT want that checkbox checked!!!. (It is a very confusingly-worded pref... thanks to Apple). Anyway, the iTLC concept is great... I just don't get the rationale for such limitations. Important question: iTLC *never writes anything* to any of my music files or iTunes Library files... right? -HI- [alert admin]

Cover Version 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)

this is great!

Still photos don't do this justice. The cube and the flag are fantastic. Two small requests: • can we get the kaleidoscope to animate? • can we get an option to have them alternate? [i.e., first song gets cube... next song gets flag... etc.] Anyway, *THANKS* for what it does now. -HI- [alert admin]

JewelCase 2.1 (Mac OS X)

fonts and encoding

When this product allows me to choose my own font(s), and when it can properly display a more extended Unicode range such as Icelandic characters, then I'll pay the registration fee. Please let me know when both of those features are added. -HI- [alert admin]

PTHPasteboard 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Thanks Paul

PTHPasteboard is a great Mac enhancement (as were PTHCPUMonitor and
PTHiTunesNotifier, and your other products... before their discontinuance).

Anyway, just wanted to add my five stars to offset the 32 consecutive reviews
posted by roro01. (Apparently some of his problems may be due to user error ).

File Buddy 9.0b14 (Mac OS X)

File Buddy is really looking good... but looks aren't everything.

Back in April, I posted a message here about how the "Creator is not" search produced wrong results (in beta 5). It finally seemed to get fixed in beta 9. However, it appears to be back to a certain degree. By itself, that criterion works okay... but -- if used in conjunction with other criteria (such as "Type is"), it does NOT work. Try this one:

Type is JPEG ; Creator is not prvw
It just does not work. (Looks like "Type is" overrides "Creator is not").

ANOTHER BUG:

It seems like almost nothing to do with aliases works. Try searching for all aliases by selecting *only* the "Is an alias" criterion. You'll get stationery files all over the place.

And forget about auto-repair of aliases. That broke long ago (version 5 or 6), and is not worth mentioning as a "feature". (Please fix). Also, various "behaviors" of the alias search window (GUI) are really annoying.

File Buddy 9.0b12 (Mac OS X)

Well this is nice...

The "release time" for beta 12 has expired, and File Buddy refuses to launch (even though I paid). It does offer to download the "latest" release, so I let it proceed... and it downloads beta 12. Gee, thanks. ;-) [alert admin]

viJournal Lite 1.6.7 (Mac OS X)

need to exclude viJournal in ApE

If the 2 posters below are using Application Enhancer (and haxies like Silk, Fruit Menu, Shape Shifter, etc.), try adding viJournal to the master exclude list (or add it to each haxie's list one at a time, to troubleshoot/determine whether it's just one of them). Worked for me. -HI- [alert admin]

Synk 5.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Synk on steroids?

Let's compare Synk version 5.2.2 to version 5.2.3 for size, shall we?

$ ls -hln /Applications/Synk 5.2.2/Synk.app/Contents/MacOS
total 1768
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 501 774K Apr 28 10:27 Synk
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 501 105K Apr 28 10:27 synkd

$ ls -hln /Applications/Synk 5.2.3/Synk.app/Contents/MacOS
total 33688
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 501 14M May 17 12:00 Synk
-rwxr-xr-x 1 501 501 2M May 17 12:00 synkd

• Synk executable is now 18 times bigger, and
• synkd executable is now 21 times bigger.

Good heavens! Why is that?

Note:
Resources and Frameworks are virtually identical in size,
...it's just the executables that got bloated beyond belief.

Do the items listed in "What's new" account for all this?

File Buddy 9.0b5 (Mac OS X)

BUG: "Creator is not" produces wrong result

Searches using the "Creator is not" popup menu option will get the same result as if "Creator is" was chosen. Please fix (before version 10). -HI- [alert admin]

>> Suggest: since this is "version tracker" not "bug tracker" >> you might have better luck reporting bugs to the developer. Read all the comments here for accounts of how the developer responds to criticism. Anyway... if I wrote software and posted it on VersionTracker, you can bet your @$$ I would check the comments here twice a day (at least).

Well... you weren't "using and depending" on version 9 for the past 3 weeks.
Because neither you nor anyone else could launch it! Beta 12 croaked on (or
before) 30 Sept... and beta 13…

Give me a break.

WHAT A LIE! The non-functional beta 12 is the only thing that's been on
the website these past 3 weeks. It said beta 12 and I downloaded it anyway.
It did NOT launch successfully. Don't try to revise history, now that beta 13
is finally up. I checked…

Over TWO weeks now !?!?!?!?

Amazing... still nary a peep from other users, or
so much as a single syllable from the developer.

Is this an unscheduled trip to the Twilight Zone?

While cruising the Skytag site, I came across this
rather ironic quote from within the beta notice:

If you currently use File Buddy 8 and decide to install File Buddy 9,
you can always revert to File Buddy 8 at…

Well ... it's been a week now.

This is strange. I use File Buddy probably 3 times a day, minimum. Here we are and the entire planet has been without FB9 for a week now... and there is nary a peep here (or at MacUpdate). Maybe folks have long since moved on to some other utility (what exactly I'm not sure).

There is of course this message from the beta 12 release notes (dated August 31):
This release has minimal changes…

"Trolling" !?

You're welcome. Fortunately, my efforts did eventually contribute to the restoration in version 5.2 of a certain vital function, which had been stripped out of 5.0 when 5.1 was released. Call it what you will, but the result ultimately fell in my favor... and is there now to benefit *all* Synk users, present and future. (Sometimes sarcasm is the best weapon against stubbornness). The delay in that restoration did however precipitate my discovery of ChronoSync...…

Well, *something* is fishy. I posted the exact same question at the Synk forum, and they deleted the message!!! So much for "developer response".
