Papers 1.8 (Mac OS X)
I agree that Papers is a unique product and in theory it could be a productivity booster. But IMO it has too many bugs when used "aggressively". I have had to delete preferences, library too many times. It then works for a few minutes but quickly fails to interface with my institutions ezproxy server properly. I delete preferences and it works again for a bit. There are other intermittent bugs. I paid for it and look forward to future iterations but it is currently unusable for me. [alert admin]

PasswordVault Lite 6.0.1 (Mac OS X)
This software does something none of the others do ![]()

PasswordVault(at least the Pro version) syncs over the internet using Lavasoft's server. It does this cross platform. The paranoid might not like storing their info on a remote server but it is encrypted. This makes this software incredibly useful. Change you data on your laptop, Mac or PC, and then sync it so your other computers can be updated. Incredible and there is no monthly charge for this. I admit the user interface is pretty lousy and there are limited fields for data entry, but the syncing and cross platform features have made this my go-to software for storing data that I might need at anytime and anywhere. Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 4.0.2 (Mac OS X)
They need to offer a time-limited demo and you should carefully consider why they don't. I have never been able to get this to work properly, nothing like syncing with Outlook on a PC. The Mac lags in this area and Missing Sync is not an effective solution. [alert admin]

PasswordWallet 4.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Does this sync passwords between computers?
Does this sync using .Mac or permit computer to computer (desktop to laptop) syncing? [alert admin]

XLR8 MAChSpeed Control 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)
There might be a good reason why this product is not released as a demo. It did not work on my system and despite early promises from Gary that it should, and it would, just give him some time and troubleshooting data, it never did. He now ignores my polite emails asking what the status is, or perhaps he is just too busy to have found the time over the past month, or maybe he passed away. In general, if a product is good and reliable, there is no harm in releasing a time limited demo. In my experience, it is products like Machspeed that have to be purchased before trying. Caveat emptor. Save your money and do not deal with this dishonest, assuming he is still among the living, man. [alert admin]

Hubble Space Telescope Screensaver 2005 (Mac OS X)
See tip posted here, these photos are owned by us, the taxpayers who funded the Hubble, and they can be downloaded and displayed or printed for free. Use iPhoto and the built-in screen saver to roll your own Hubble Space Telescope Screensaver. [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 0.9 (Mac OS X)
re Pez, No, it was not .9, you need to look in the About FireFox window. Anyway, just downloaded 0.9 and it is still slow as a dog. Everything is slow, browsing, opening preferences etc... i have trashed all my old prefs, tried various cache settings (from 0-50,000) and still sloow. Anyone have any ideas to speed this up? Mozilla Firefox 0.9rc (Mac OS X)
Compared to Safari, the latest version of Firefox (contrary to what it says here it is actually .8+, not .9) and Mozilla are dog-slow. What happened, i used to like them better than safari and still need their auto proxy config feature?. They take way too long to load web pages. Anyone know how to speed them up? [alert admin]

Bookends 7.7.5 (Mac OS X)
Longtime EndNote user but tired of so many paid updates and the horrible, nonintuitive UI, and the bugs. Yes, EN is indespensible for writing reports and research papers but there is now a valid competitor. Not sure if I will make the switch yet but Bookends works well so far, it even looks and functions like a Mac program - what a concept. [alert admin]

I have a giga designs G4/7447 upgrade, any chance this will work with that card, or is it only for Powerlogix cards?

Yes, but Web Confidential does much more than store passwords. It helps securely organize all sorts of information. I am a very satisfied long time user, it is worth a try for anyone that has multiple credit cards, web passwords, email accounts, newsgroup accounts, bank accounts, software serial numbers, personal info (licenses, kid‘s social security numbers) etc....
