LiveCargo Widget 3.5 (Mac OS X)

Email reply from Customer Support

John G. Harrill, Customer Support Manager at LiveCargo, was kind enough to reply to my email regarding the ClamX issue. Here is his email, in full: Jay, The ClamX is picking up on code in the widget and is assuming that it is a virus, which it certainly is not. We are aware of the issue and have addressed it in a new release, scheduled for 8/17. Thanks. John G. AOL Radio 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Please don't tell AOL.....

...that, for once, they did something right. Look, I have no love for AOL, a company I regard as being managed by a bunch of clueless anal retentives. (Ever try to cancel an account from them?) Which is all the more remarkable that they have been able to create AOL Radio, perhaps one of the best radio apps available for the Mac. Setting it up took mere seconds, using an old AIM screen name I had used with iChat. I was delighted to find a clean and intuitive interface. I was impressed by the wide choice of music, with a lot of it from XM radio. And disappointed there was no old time radio or any of the current talk shows. However, the price was right. Free (and without any of the stupid AOL advertising). [alert admin]

Google Importer 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Similar to Inquisitor

IMHO, Inquisitor has the edge because it will use Spotlight to ONLY show the Google results, and in a more complete way. Note, however, Inquisitor is shareware and the author's pricing mechanism is less than satisfactory. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21991 [alert admin]

Fire 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)

I'll wait....

I looked it up on their FAQ and (IMHO), it just seems too limited for my purposes (video chat): Does Fire support Yahoo Webcams? At this time Fire does not support Yahoo webcams. There is some work going on in the open source community to add support for these, and we anticipate adding it to Fire in the near future. Does Fire support Voice Chat for Yahoo and AIM? At this time Fire does not support voice chat with Yahoo and AIM. Unfortunately, the audio implementations used by these services are unique to the Microsoft Windows platform, and even the official Macintosh clients do not support it. Since the audio CODECs are proprietary and use patented technology, it is unlikely that Fire will be able to support them until the original manufacturers make them available on Mac OS X. (Ideally as a part of QuickTime, if Apple is listening‍….) [alert admin]

Trash It! 3.6 (Mac OS X)

It works exactly as advertised

I had a very stubborn file that I could not get rid of. Trash It! worked flawlessly. Another reviewer claimed that, "install 24U, it states too many users and wants you to purchase it" simply isn't true. I installed 24U first without any trouble and there wasn't even a request for money. There is little chance of deleting something accidently, because you have to provide your password to continue the process of deleting an item. It works fine under 10.3.9 and I would not hesitate to recommend it. [alert admin]

The bug is real!!

Thanks for posting the problem. And especially the workaround that I came to Versiontracker to find, which I will now try.
