Google Notifier 1.10.2.580 (Mac OS X)
I've used this program since it's been available. Occasionally it will ask me to log in, but not enough to be annoying. It's probably the program that gets the most use on my Mac, since I check it's menu bar icon every time I start any activity. [alert admin]

Apple iDVD 7.0.2 (Mac OS X)
When I ran Software Update today, it showed only the update for QuickTime 7.5. After I ran the update and restarted, I ran Software Update again. That's when the updates for iMovie and iDVD appeared. The same sequence occurred when I ran Software Update on my other Mac. [alert admin]

LaCie DVD Update Tool 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Note that this updater may perform multiple updates, depending on your hardware. On my system, with an external D2 DVD-RW DL, it took 3 or four cycles before it said my drive needed no further updates. Keep applying updates until the program says it can't find a drive requiring an update. [alert admin]

Passwords Plus 1.0.0.6 (Mac OS X)
I've used Passwords Plus almost every day for several years. It is running on my iMac at home, and on my Palm Zire 71 for access from my office or elsewhere. Part of my routine is to use the Palm's HotSync feature to synchronize every time I recharge, so the two databases are kept in sync (I can make additions or changes on either platform, and they get transferred automatically to the other). WeatherManX 1.9.8 (Mac OS X)
I hadn't used WeatherManX for awhile, and noticed recently that neither the Forecast nor the Extended Forecast were showing any data for any of the three cities I had set up. After reviewing the other comments here, I deleted and then re-added the three cities, and the forecasts started working again. iMac G4 800, 1GB RAM, OS X 10.4.11 [alert admin]

Circus Ponies NoteBook 2.1 v262 (Mac OS X)
Not only useful, but has a very nice interface. It's the type of program that I'd be tempted to buy just to have, even if I didn't need it. BTW, an earlier comment about this program installing an Input Manager is obsolete. Recent releases do not use an Input Manager. [alert admin]

I have a MacBook 2GHz Core 2 Duo with 1GB of RAM, using OS X 10.4.10. I followed the instructions to the letter, and the updater worked exactly as advertised. After restarting, I verified the new Boot ROM version number with the System Profiler. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X Intel 10.4.10 (Mac OS X)
I updated with Software Update on a 2006 MacBook that I purchased a week ago (had previously been updated to OS X 10.4.9). I didn't repair permissions beforehand (though that would have been a good idea). It went smoothly. After rebooting and going through a somewhat-longer startup, it automatically rebooted a second time before coming all the way back to the Login. No issues to report. [alert admin]

Sticky Windows 2.2.3 (Mac OS X)
I installed this program several weeks ago, and I use it all the time now. Very handy for hiding window clutter. [alert admin]

It worked on my 15” 800Mhz iMac earlier this year. I haven't tried the 2.0 version, since that iMac is basically “retired” now.

If you don't understand what they're talking about, then you probably don't need this app! :-)

Your experience is consistent with the fact that the download webpage for the new Apple Firmware Restoration CD 1.6 that was just released does not list the MacBook (late 2006) as an affected model - only the MacBook (late 2007) in the MacBook series. Apparently the new firmware update isn't for our “vintage” MacBooks.

I've just done some Googling for the meaning of "internet-enabled disk image". Here's some info on the Apple Developer site:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/DeveloperTools/Conceptual/SoftwareDistribution/Containers/chapter_3_section_3.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/10000145i-CH4-DontLinkElementID_7
It appears that the term refers to a disk image that, when downloaded by the browser, automatically opens, extracts its contents to the download folder, and then moves itself to the Trash, so all you are left with is an application file or folder of files. I've seen this behavior with many downloads. Since I typically…

I've been using this program for a couple months, and I think it crashed maybe once (just the app, not the system). The author appears to be fixing any problems as they arise. BTW, folks often attribute problems to APE, because removing it solves the problem. It is more likely one of the haxies that rely on APE (and don't run without it) that is causing the problem. I have APE installed all the time and…

The moral of this story is that, when you update a piece of software, you should always keep a copy of at least one old version that works for you, until you are sure that you are satisfied with the update.
