what a feeling of relief when videos that I post which are copyright flagged-if they dont pull them-then they put a popup ad for Amazon on them; I feel that For FREE; I am providing high quality content for YT-TV stations have to pay to get programs, ya know I am doing free publicy and promotion for the record company and group by making a video all for art and personal satisfaction and no life So how irksome to see ads pop up over my titles and now NOT ONE of them pops up-in fact the ad flag and Amazon pull down menu is gone!!! 5 cheers for Glimmer! FairMount 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)
How Microsoft as someone elsewhere noted discussing ripping: "FAIRMOUNT is a great tool when used with VLC; For some reason it come packed with some piece of junk DVD ripper-just download and toss that part-and pair up Fairmount with VLC for a cracking good time...." [alert admin]

SMART Utility 2.1 (Mac OS X)
According to a white paper by Google...
covering 100,000 hard drives-praying for a sign, throwing salt over your shoulder, or visiting a psychic are nearly as reliable as using a SMART utility to predict HD failure; Also, HEAT and USE do not seem to correlate between a drive failing and one that does not There are certain parameters on a aggregate scale such as Googles server farms-where these utilities have SOME value-but for an individual consumer-the above suggestions are cheaper-and maybe as reliable There may be some exceptions-probably based more on luck or coincidence All in all even a free smart utility is no more than a 'feel good' device-like a rabbits foot Considering to horror of data loss and the expense of recovery-the manufacturers should simply adjust the QC formula-'the acceptable rate of returns' down to 5% or less-this would not add appreciably to the cost- as most reviews-of the best HDs i read show a 10% average failure rate-ive been researching into which BU HD might be the best for me- im seeing an UNACCEPTABLE failure rate-conisdering what you buy it for-one should not have to worry To be safe, your computer and external HD should exist as redunant BUs-VERY unlikely both could fail at once-but I know im tempted to push all overflow stuff onto my BU-but the worry-should I buy a BU for the BU? http://labs.google.com/papers/disk_failures.pdf if someone has other data showing differently-please submit [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.3.0.14 (Mac OS X)
Same money hungry sleazebags as always
>I now have very serious concerns about using their professional products if ever needed, the company looks like completely infested by MS mind lately. They weren't like this before. --- what do yo mean?-theyve always had this shamelesss, MS-like, sleazy sort of "were gonna squeeze every dime we can out of ya" business model-so unlike Mac; While everyone has to make a living-you note that in the Windows worlds it all comes down to an in-your-face 'we want yer $$$$££'-everything else is secondary-Mac developers seem to be bit more tasteful and restrained and dont come across like.....well, like Bill Gates [alert admin]

ProtectMac AntiVirus 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
what does the "next generation security product" actually mean? (made for SL doesnt count) in other words, what great new strides in technology are built into it, making it tower above all others? motivate us Anyone ever notice that to combat flagging sales of its MAC AV that NORTON has to cry "Wolf!" every so often-and it always turns out to be a false alarm... I think they must be on the verge of discontinuing the product [alert admin]

I have a better idea "Deltagroup" or whoever- why doesnt he just charge 5-$10 for it and put in up on VT and not hold it hostage? He implied back in Aug that he should have no problems updating as the code that effected him hadnt really changed; [Just give him 15 spare minutes] Then he said something that didnt ring true-"But Ive got to get my hands on a copy of SL" (!)-this was a week after…

well, rather than be penalized by by loading down my system with pointless bloatware-if the Windows receiver is too dumb to use an anti virus app after all they know about Windows over the years-then they virtually deserve a passed on via email virus. in 20 years of Mac use-Ive heard of ONE red alert national out in the wild MAC virus-the rest have all been on-paper/ or set up in a lab under ideal conditions-…
