Apple Safari 3.1 (Mac OS X)
****Still**** can't get to my cellphone account --- or command my DSL modem. I've sent in bug reports on the issue ---again. All else seems fine. Keep another browser available for those occasional troublesome spots. I've used iCab and Firefox as my "back-up" browser. [alert admin]

avast! antivirus 2.74 (Mac OS X)
OS 10.4.11, 1.5 GHz G4 1.25 G RAM Crashed frequently. Contacted customer support via email and got a reasonably quick response. Unlike some others, it was easy to remove from my system --- only 3 items. I'll be watching for the next update. [alert admin]

ClamXav 1.1.0 (Mac OS X)
Sentry is acting up in this version. It is unreliable on startup -- filling my screen with assorted "failed to scan" notices. It hogs my CPU in the background, unlike previous versions -- and also seems to trigger a lot of Spotlight CPU action. The author's website appears overloaded. I did get in once long enough to see multitudes of reports regarding Sentry --- so I will assume he is aware of it. I have chosen *NOT* to run Sentry for now. I still use ClamXav in the scan-on-demand mode. [alert admin]

HighLoad 1.9.1 (Mac OS X)
Very nice app for most of its features. I do suggest an alternative for the "Max CPU" feature --- which looks like it launches everything in your Applications folder. -----Just try to regain control of your machine once that gets going----- For a controllable CPU loader, try this one: http://www.bresink.de/osx/SystemLoad.html [alert admin]

Trimmit! 0.9 (Mac OS X)
Outperforms Monolingual and XSlimmer in size reduction. The little "log" display tells you what it did to the file. The other two do not display their performance logs as as readily. Does a file by dragging it to the application window. Monoligual has no file selection --- Xslimmer can scan and let you choose any or several, in addition to a single file drag. For those that won't read docs --- Slimmit has a huge advantage over Monolingual, in that it does make a backup --- slight advantage over Xslimmer in that the backup option is simple to do and find. Monolingual can remove inputs ( keyboard variations, like dvorik, unicode, etc) -- the others don't. Trimmit does a selected file ---Monolingual does your entire drive --- Xslimmer scans your drive and avoids your system folder, or does individual selected applications. Protection from breaking files by stripping is: Trimmet-- 100% making the back-up Monolingual --- known list built-in at the time of the latest revision Xslimmer --- known list, updatable on-lin, and optional back-up. Mac Pilot 2.3.8 (Mac OS X)
"Some" things won't work in Tiger? Like what --- (besides Broadband Optimization not even being there anymore)? Any of the bug fixes apply to Tiger? VT says it is designed to run on 10.4 and 10.5 ---- Developers web page says it is a 10.5 application, and refers you to an "obsolete software" page for older OS's. Is Tiger being currently supported, or not? [alert admin]

yea, I have 4.15.2 Pro --- I have not noticed anything new in my last couple of updates. They are offering me a cut rate to renew. I'll pass unless/until I see something significant on the above mentioned webpage.

Their version history has v4.14.12 (3 Dec 2007) as the newest change. http://www.limewire.com/features/history.php Their support points you to that for the info you are asking for :p

"stumbled across a bug that prevented it from working" --- Curious. I have it, OS10.4.11, G4 --- still working fine. I am watching this one, though, as a probable replacement when it either catches up -- or my DM breaks beyond repair (I still have the *full* installer).

It does resize those formats that permit it. The simplicity of the UI can be deceptive regarding what it can do. Check the docs under "help"

Yea, but a "check the specs" flag can avoid disappointment for even those with fairly new (as in currently suppported, non-vintage) machines.

Just curious --- what version do you have that you are trying to update? Was it *installed*, or copied to your applications folder? Have you messed with any of the resources (as in stripping out some languages)? You need to have version 4.5.1 or 4.5.2 to update. Install it again, before you try to update ---- there are other items the installer puts into your system (like layered folders for…
