Retrospect 6 Driver Update 6.1.9.102 (Mac OS X)
I have a new MacBook Pro with a Core 2 Duo and the LG optical drive that shipped with the machine (HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA). Retrospect doesn't recognize this drive. The current driver update (6.1.9.102) was released *after* I purchased this machine. I have used Retrospect for many years and find it to be, historically, a terrific product, however their commitment to Mac support since being acquired by EMC appears to be pretty shaky. As it stands today, if you own a recent Mac, particularly an Intel-based Mac, you will almost certainly need an older external drive in order to use Retrospect. [alert admin]

DropCopy 1.2.1 (Mac OS X)
Worked Once, But Now Doesn't Work
I initially downloaded v1.0 and put it on my TiBook and an old iMac. It worked great. It was cool! Then I took it to work, where there is one other guy with an iBook. He installed it, but we couldn't get it to work, despite our best efforts, and now it doesn't work with the iMac, either. Actually, the iMac sees that there is a copy on the TiBook but not the other way around, and files don't transfer. I just downloaded 1.2.1 and installed it on the TiBook, but it still doesn't work. It was way cool for the short time it worked. Oh well. [alert admin]

Mouse Position Menu 1.4 (Mac OS X)
Stewart01, you are laughing, but consider this: until about a half-hour ago I couldn't have envisioned a use for a little utility like this. Then, I faced a problem where this _exact_ utility was the best possible answer. And, lucky for me, and despite people like you that laugh at what you don't understand, it exists, and it works as advertised (at least as long as there is room in the menubar for it). As for mr tew, you clearly flunked high school math (or went to school in Texas). Because otherwise, you would realize that you cannot have a coordinate system that starts at 1,1. It can only start at 0,0. You are free, of course, to add 1 to each coordinate if that helps you (that requires, of course, that you know how to add). [alert admin]

I purchased a license for 1.7.8, and it did some useful things, although not anything that several other utilities don't also do. But I am hugely disappointed that the developer expects me to pay again for v.2. As far as I know, there was no version 1.x after 1.7.8, so I think it's simply a case of a greedy developer. My advice to prospective users would be for you to find other utilities that do the same thing and have more generous upgrade policies. Tinker Tool, Cocktail, and Braodband Optimizer come immediately to mind. Otherwise you may find yourself paying over and over for a lot of nothing. The interface looks terrible, too. The buttons and their labels are smashed together making them difficult to read. Frankly, it looks like an amateurish design, and it doesn't inspire much confidence in the quality of the software itself. [alert admin]

If you are using Stuffit 8 (Deluxe, Standard, or Expander), this application will not run after you unstuff it. The ".sit" format does not know anything about Unix permissions. Stuffit versions 7 and earlier automatically give run permissions when unstuffing, but beginning with Stuffit 8, permissions are set to deny execution. The developer must switch to the ".sitx" format in order to preserve permissions and allow users to run the application. [alert admin]

Maybe because I have updated to 10.2.8? Just downloaded b8, doubleclicked, saw the zoom rects, and that was it. It didn't launch. [alert admin]

First of all, this is an awesome product. I love it. I only just discovered it a few weeks ago, and downloaded beta 0.955b. It was a major, major hassle to set up, which I attributed to the fact that it was a beta. Now that it is set up, I love it. I was somewhat surprised to discover that in the few short weeks since I downloaded it, it had advanced to version 2.x.…
