NcFTP Client 3.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Always great

I have been faithfully using this for more than 4 years. I've used NcFTP on Solaris, Redhat, and OS X. Fantastic. [alert admin]

Retrospect 8.1.148 (Mac OS X)

50% support for 10.4

The engine works, but not the console. Without 10.5 you can't configure or manage the backups. Bummer. Probably another 4 months of waiting for that. [alert admin]

Retrospect 8.0.733 (Mac OS X)

Where is PPC support

EMC shouldn't say PPC support soon, if they don't mean it. We're way past soon right now. [alert admin]

EMC Retrospect 8.0.594 (Mac OS X)

PowerPC soon

They're quoted as saying "soon". I hope their interpretation of "soon" meets my optimistic expectations. [alert admin]

BIAS Peak Pro 6.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Could be great, but falls short

Unintuitive interface, spotty manual, but worse of all are the bugs. I had to stop using Peak because it was costing time. Not to mention how it looks for a client sitting in a session and watching us deal with this thing. It looks bad. I'm using Soundtrack from the Final Cut Studio suite. I can get more done in less time without having to be paranoid about crashes. [alert admin]

Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Won't Get Fooled Again

Let's see if I have this straight. Silverlight for all. Silverlight takes over the world and dominates all other players Then M$ has us all bent over a barrel once again. Minus 1000000 points for not releasing FULLY compatible Mac version. [alert admin]

Adobe Digital Editions 1.7 (Mac OS X)

Should still be in beta

This is a half-baked treat for you. It's slow It crashes It hangs and forces you to kill it Drag-n-drop doesn't work at all. Only half of the ebooks I tried to load in there actually worked. Tisk, tisk Adobe, really. This is truly awful! [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Needs a tune up

Unable to read eBooks with Leopard because Adobe's DRM is incompatible with OS 10.5. Web browser plugin doesn't work on Intel Macs with Firefox. Web browser plugin on Safari is painfully slow. [alert admin]
