Windows Media Player 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Its ACTUALLY good

If I had continued listening to all the Micro$oft bashing fanboys on this website, I'd never install this program. But, surprise...I did, and it runs very well on my G3 iMac 700. heres how i did it: 1) make sure your running the latest version of Stuffit Expander. If you dont have it...download it. you dont have to keep the shareware that comes with it. 2) run a permissions repair on your hard disk (disk utility- repair permissions) 3) download the WMP file, and open it up 4) turn off any programs that shouldnt be on while installing: web browsers, chat programs, games, internet software, etc... 5) run the installer. it asks for your password, go ahead and enter it. click "agree" on the EULA. the program begins to install 6) You'll notice the spinning beach ball after a few seconds. DO NOT force quit! Let it go. Its still searching your hard disk so it can install, it may take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Read the Micro$oft news groups page...one person on there had to wait almost 5 minutes for the installer to finish scanning the drive (it took about 90 secs for me) 7) afterward, chuck the installer, then do yet another permissions repair. then run WMP. watch the demo, then turn it off. 8) go online, turn on a browser, and it should work just fine. and for all the people with WMP issues: 1) video/audio: this most of the time isnt just the fault of WMP. I watched the same news video clip (of the pope) on 3 different websites, 2 of them ran the clip very well, while the third ran it just plain awful. complain to the site owner of your problem, it could be a bad WMV file on their site. 2) Recognizance problems: not all of us run Windoze with internet explorer. And, not all websites run under the latest web compliances. And, because of this, unless your running Windoze, it wont recognize your player. once again, complain to the site owner that some of us do run on Macs, and would like to view what they're offering. if they get enough complaints (besides the juvenile "micro$oft sucks kind) they'll get the picture and update their site. All in all a great player, contrary to what others think. 4 stars. [alert admin]

Shiira 0.9.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Very nice....

So far, Shiira is a GREAT product that will IMHO become better with every release! Some gripes: 1) when adding toolbar bookmarks from an exported file from Safari, theres a bug that causes a duplicate bookmark to be installed besides the original. AND, the (so far) inability to edit a bookmarks name as well.... 2) A slight memory leak causes ALOT of memory to be used...although emptying the cache does the trick, and its easy to find. 3) sadly, a non-existant help file as well.... other than that...this has great promise! AWESOME job! [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.3 (Mac OS X)

Frickin' Great!

All I can say is...wow. Everythings soooo much faster now on my lil imac g3 700. Installing was about twice as long to install than Jaguar was, but its well worth it! can't wait for 10.3.1 (lol) [alert admin]

Mozilla Firebird 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Caminwho?

Ok, I'm going to get lynched for this...but Firebird blows the doors off of Camino! This is now permanently on my dock next to Safari & Mozilla. One little buggle: importing bookmarks from other browsers. Im not an Applescript major, and I'd rather not screw up the works trying to figure out importing using it...other than that issue, great browser. I know, Camino's still a good browser, but wheres the improvements lately? Nightly builds seem to have trickled down to twice to three time a week updates, and that browsers constant crashing has become a total turn-off. Until any improvements happen, Firebird has climbed up one rung just above it, IMHO. [alert admin]

X-Chat Aqua 0.10.1 (Mac OS X)

Blah

Interesting IRC program loaded with options, problem is getting connected to a chat! I try going to ICQ Chat with it, I fill all my info to connect, it connects, and when I do, I get a message saying "USER: Not Enough Parameters". then I get Pinged off and it disconnects! Frustrating, I end up using Colloquy, or Mozilla's "Chatzilla" IRC program instead. [alert admin]

rRootage 0.22.1 (Mac OS X)

Nice

This brings me back to my Tempest playing days, and I'm glad I had a friend who had Vectrex! Great game, controls are a lil complicated. Definetly recommend printing out the preview file, it makes playing easier. [alert admin]
