Flip4Mac WMV 2.1.0.33 (Mac OS X)

Crash, bang, wallop..

I was very excited to see an Intel-native version of this but wasn't able to install it properly. I finally managed, only to find that the app just crashes my browser everytime I try playing Windows media. However, it seems to work fine from within QuickTime.. Disappointed.. [alert admin]

Flip4Mac WMV 2.1.0.33 (Mac OS X)

What a shame...

I've been waiting for the Universal Binary release of Flip4Mac for while. Having said that, I'm disappointed with the result. When I tried to install I got the following error that prevented me from continuing the installation: "The following QuickTime Components may be incompatible with Flip4Mac: PopwireWMV-9Import & PopwireWMV-9Export Please remove before continuing installation." I fixed that by doing "Show Package Conetents" on the installer and installing both the QuickTime plug-in and browser plug-in seperately. After that I found I could use the QuickTime plug-in without any problems but the browser plug-in caused my browser to crash. I do not recommend this release to anyone using a 1st genereation Intel iMac. My system: iMac Core Duo 2GHz (20"), 2GB RAM, ATI X1600 (256MB) [alert admin]

A52Codec 1.6 (Mac OS X)

Perfect!

This is exactly what I needed! It works flawlessly with xvid .avi files and an AC-3 (5.1) soundtrack (ripped using HandBrake). Thank you! [alert admin]

ReelBean 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Fullscreen?

This is a solid little app with a nice interface and lots of neat features. However, I think it's unfortunate that fullscreen is not one of these features. [alert admin]

Google SketchUp 5.0.296 (Mac OS X)

3D buildings.. for the rest of us.

This is a fun little program and well worth the downlaod given that it's free. I player around with it for 10 or 15 minutes and managed to make a mockup of my house. There is a tutorial that runs you through the basics in easy to follow steps. Unfortunately, Google SketchUp is not yet a Universal Binary but I'm sure it will be in future versions. However, it is a relatively small program and not too demnading on resources so it's very difficult to tell that it's actually running under Rosetta. Nice one Google! Now we can all have 3D buildings. [alert admin]

Google Earth 4.0.1563.0 (Mac OS X)

Vastly improved!!

This new Beta release of Google Earth is not only a Universal Binary, but a vast improvement of virtually every aspect of the program. First off, it's a Universal Binary (at long last!). This really improves performance on my 20" iMac Core Duo/2GB RAM/ATI X1600 256MB. The version runs much more smoothly and starts up much faster, too. The interface has also been improved, saving screen space and adding a few neat extras such as a retractable sidebar, giving you a nearly-full-screen view. Access to tools like "Measure" is also easier using a button instead of a menu item. I haven't come across any bugs so far (using 10.4.6). [alert admin]
