iClock Pro 1.0b21 (Mac OS X)
I have been a user of the older iClock for over 5 years with no problems so decided to upgrade. While still in beta, b21 is performing solidly and adds even more useful features than before. The integration with iCal is very clever and it is easy to control how you want both the date and the time to look in the menu bar each with its own colors and fonts and format, etc. My one suggestion is to make sure you completely delete the previous version if you too are considering the upgrade. This can only be done by doing a restart after you drag the app to the trash. Short of that, some parts of the program stay loaded so this is important to do. Compliments on this upgrade and one very feature rich program! (no I do not work for software vendor) -Peter [alert admin]

SOHO Notes 7.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Tech Support is Non-existent in any form.
I used this product for years as well as Sticky Brain before and when it worked it was great. However, once I had a db corruption problem and needed help, outside of my own expertise, the company never responded. Not in private email or on their forums as they prefer. Good products still need the backend support for when even a consultant (me) can not get around a problem and this company failed terribly at that task. I decided that I could no longer invest my time and data and my client's data to a company that offered me no help at all on those very rare occasions it was needed. I moved on to EverNote, a free solution that is not perfect but adds wonderful cross platform support to my iPhone too. Even the best product is not worth using if you can not get any help when you need it. I no longer recommend anything from the company for this reason. -Peter [alert admin]

Tri-BACKUP 5.1.2 (Mac OS X)
They have always responded to me. Does it mean that the email system make it impossible for an email to get misplaced or deleted by accident? No, so one sends a second post. This is par for the course in all communication. I have never had this product delete my files either and I suspect user error. I have even made suggestions to the authors and yes, they were added! It were my requests to be able to launch scripts from the menu and to group scripts in folders. They do listen and they do respond and the product gets better with every rev The latest 5.1.2 now has ACL backup which can be important if you back up OSX file servers and you want to retain proper permissions. Mac HelpMate 2.5 (Mac OS X)
I have used Mac HelpMate in both the freeware mode and the paid subscription. The freeware version is on every machine own as well as at my clients as it does numerous tasks very well. The subscription features, that allow me to connect to client's machines remotely (plus more), are an added bonus for the consultant but have little to do with the already rich feature-set everyone gets for free. I continue to recommend the product and v2.5 is the best release yet. -Peter [alert admin]

Mac HelpMate 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Very Complete and Even More Promising
I have been using the beta versions with very impressive results and not only is this program fully featured as is but if you want to be blown away, you should test out the commerical Remote supporting functions between two computers in two offices! This remote usage is what I am most excited about personally. However, as a freeware utility, it is hard to beat. -Peter [alert admin]

Data Backup 2.04 (Mac OS X)
Free Backup says: "I do this once a month and not one problem has showen up. This way I don't miss a thing by forgetting to back something up or putting my trust in others." ------- So you don't mind losing 29 days of work? I don't want to lose one day so while your approach is valid it does not reflect the ease of using a product like this to do daily or hourly incremental backups that can sychronize two locations. You say you don't "want to put your trust in others". Apple is not YOU so you are just trusting one developer over another. That is ok, but your logic is flawed. One must decide how much data loss is acceptable and then decide on a solution. Products like this, that offer such a feature set are much more convenient to run daily and work 99% reliably from my experience. If you have a specific problem with this product, document it and report it to Prosoft. I do that with most software I wish to use. [alert admin]

Virex Definitions 040801 (Mac OS 9)
If you read the read me provided with latest 08-2004 version, they discuss there is now 6.2 version and this def file is for that. I have not seen 6.2 though. Speedscan is disabled for use now due to licensing which is not good for anyone of course. The error you get basically confirms this in addition to comments in the Read Me. [alert admin]

Xupport 2.2.1 (Mac OS X)
You said: "Cache Cleaner does essentially the same and more "clearly". So, what is this for? Any idea?? " Sure but you need to read all the features of Xupport to see the difference. Xupport does what Cache Cleaner does and much more - READ features. One thing offhand - Xupport lets you easily move VM SWAP files to another partition. If all you need to do is cache removal that is a different story. [alert admin]

Adobe Photoshop CS MultiProcessor Support update (Mac OS X)
Not so fast - upgrade seems fine
Savilleguy, you need to check your own system. No crashing on my machine opening this file or after installing the updated file. Can't blame Adobe for this issue. [alert admin]

Annoyingly stupid: NO UPDATES!
I don't know, but I must be lucky. When I launch the app, and there is an update, it offers to download and then install it. Same day as released too Judging by interface it looks like the app uses the Sparkle update system which is pretty close to industry standard. You do NOT need to get an email. This program is updated most recently at least once a month. I hate…

iClock Pro 1.0b21 is 1.0b20. This is nonsense!
YIKES! The trouble of downloading? Takes me about 20 seconds to download such files. FYI, the version posted IS b21 and I see that when I go to the installed copy preferences. It says right there b21.

While we think Binosama needs to learn how to communicate nicer and more reasonably, we have addressed a few points and released v1.4 incorporating those suggestions as we could. A product can not be "useless" if it does exactly as advertised regardless of what you might want it to do for you. We stand by what we offer to the end user, for free and as long as what you need is what we are offering,…

1.2 version worked absolutely fine for me but I would like to have some control over compression and other options which this program does not seem to offer.

As one of the authors of this simple utility let me defend its reason. If it was of no use as you suggest, it would not have been downloaded (so far) 130 times so while you are correct that users ideally will move on to OSX, the facts say that many still share their work environments with OS9 users. This facilitates that situation and since it was created FOR OSX users in the first place your…

Epson Perfection 2450 Photo hangs
I have same scanner and every rev of VueScan 8 including current 806 works without a problem under 10.3.4 and on a DP Mirror G4 with 2 gigs RAM. I suspect your problem has to do with other devices on your Firewire chain OR other software OR the OSX version you are using or other variables which we do not share in common. I know this is not good news but the software itself does indeed work…
