Small bugs in interface

Overall nice program but I noticed a few bugs right away. First one is that when you view a recipe in "Cooking View", it displays what you entered as the "Course" in the "Cuisine" field. In the recipe I entered, instead of saying it was "German" cuisine, it says it is "dinner" cuisine. The second may be operator error, but in the same Cooking View, when I click on the "Speak steps" checkbox, it keeps just repeating step 1. I tried a couple of things to get it to move on to step 2, but never found one that worked. [alert admin]

BSOD! 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

This is stupid

Every screen looks the same. The only obvious change is the actual error message itself, although I expect the core dump changes too. And how is a static screen going to prevent image burn-in, like screensavers are supposed to do? Don't waste your time with this. [alert admin]

NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 4 (Mac OS X)

Still some major issues

I have several complex spreadsheets that work perfectly in MS Excel, both the Win32 and OSX versions, but that generate dozens of errors or simply won't work in Open Office and NeoOfficeJ. For one thing, the "rate" function is not interpreted correctly, meaning that most any spreadsheet that deals with financial data or forecasting will need to be rewritten. Most macros just don't run at all if attached to a drawing object like a 3-D button. Also, formulas that refer to values that are stored in a drop down list take forever to calculate, at least in really large spreadsheets. The same fields update almost instantaneously in MS Excel. Still, considering the cost differential, this is quite a bargain. I just wish they would improve the cross-compatibility with MS Excel so that I could actually use NeoOfficeJ with my existing spreadsheets. [alert admin]

JackenIAX 1.0beta (v213) (Mac OS X)

Calls to POTS don't work

I followed the instructions to sign up for a free account at FWD and then activated the IAX support. I was able to receive calls from the FWD website and place calls to both the echo test and the author's IAX number. But every call I tried to make to a regular phone would cause the program to go off hook for a millisecond and then promptly hang up. Perhaps I need something other than the free FWD account in order to place calls to land-line telephones, but the documentation doesn't mention it. The sound quality on the echo test, which switches from the default GSM protocol to ULaw, was excellent using a USB Logitech headset. If I can figure out how to make calls to regular phones, this will be a great alternative to my current favorite SIP phone, Gizmo. [alert admin]

Transmission 0.5 (Mac OS X)

No problems here at all

I tried several other BT clients on my PowerMac Dual G5 and settled on this one because it seems to DL quite a bit faster than those other apps. I have left it running, both seeding and downloading multiple torrents for weeks and have never seen any problems with freezing, filling virtual memory, or hogging CPU cycles. I can't say what happens if you have to force quit this app because I haven't had to do that. The only thing that I do manually (that I wish the program did for me) is to cancel and restart all of the active torrents about once a day. When I do that, it often finds additional seeds and/or speeds up the active downloads. It doesn't do it every time, but I'm convinced that it does it a lot of the time. [alert admin]

iStat pro 2.3 (Mac OS X)

You're right - it's wrong!

I have a couple other programs that do the same thing that this widget does (X Resource Graph and Menu Meters). Both of those apps indicate the same CPU usage for both of my processors, but this app gives completely different numbers. Since the other 2 match and this one doesn't, I must assume that iStat Pro is displaying incorrect data as far as the CPU usage is concerned. The other data that iStat Pro generates seems to be consistent with these other programs, so the problem appears to be related only to CPU usage (and possibly only a problem on multi-CPU systems, since the previous review noted the same issue). Not to obvious use...

A simple calibration [System Pref / Displays / Color / Calibrate] will do that and much more...

Yes.

It also says in the help file that sometimes iTunes misses the signal to burn and the process appears to hang. If that happens you are told to initiate the burn manually and everything should continue as expected.

Bigger Screen Shots

Yes, sure we can hop over to your website to see screenshots, but why make us jump through the hoop? In my opinion, there's no reason to post screenshots on VT if the ones you post are illegible. I think you should either replace the ones here with some of the ones from your website, or you should delete the ones here. They are completely useless in their current size, and more than 1 person…

Weak Charts

Wow! I gotta say that I like your spunk, expecially the comments regarding why there is a lack of OSX software for strategic stock analysis. On the other hand, regardless of the fact that their comments were derogatory, your retort was very closed minded. Apparently this person thought that several features, like contextual menus, were missing from your product. Rather than asking where they would have helped, your answer was pretty much "You don't know…

BE CAREFUL

Actually, it does ask you if you want to import contacts from your address book and invite them to use Gizmo, but the wording is rather vague so many people miss it, like you apparently did.

Agreed!

Their 3-D aquarium set the bar pretty high. I can't believe this is from the same folks.

Thank you

I agree that this is one of my most used pieces of "freeware". In fact, so much so that I felt bad not contributing something. Then I discovered that the author does have a Paypal account setup for people that want to help him buy new hardware to develop for / on. If you get as much out of his work as I do, I encourage you to help him out with whatever you can…

Does DSS work on OS X 10.3.8?

This is what I was just told by their product support folks: The interface from the Digital Wave player that comes with the VN-240PC and VN-480PC to the PC is a proprietary interface and they have not ported it to the Mac at this time (I doubt they ever will). The DSS and DSS Lite players will not download anything from these 2 voice recorders since they can't interface to them. They are only there…

On the serious rewrite problem ...

I have played around with the newest version of Open Office for the x86 architecture. Unfortunately, the OSX version of the same is available only to a small group of Beta testers & developers. However, that said it will be available for OSX at some future date, and it has an interface and functionality that is quite close to that of MS Access. I too wish we had an OSX version of Access to use,…

Oh Well

Personally I had no problem switching between the same 2 screen savers, so I expect that was a fluke. As to the size and motion, I changed the magnification to 300% and tried different speeds and they look better that the default setting (at least at my current resolution settings). But I agree that this is nothing that I would want to keep either. They are not very realistic.
