Spanning Sync 2.0b346 (Mac OS X)
Great product before Google offers native syncing ![]()

I've used Spanning Sync without a problem for a couple months now. I swear by it and think it's definitely worth the price of admission -- at least until Google supports native iCal syncing! [alert admin]

SRS iWOW 1.0.7 (Mac OS X)
Does a fair job, but VolumeLogic is much better ![]()

I've been using iWOW for awhile ever since VolumeLogic quit working on iTunes 7. For the most part, I like the plugin -- how it looks and its presets. I don't like that you can't close the plugin without disabling it, but that's minor. The bigger issues are really in the quality of the sound processing compared with VolumeLogic. While iWOW does give you more depth than usual, VolumeLogic is like Photoshop's unsharp mask in how it pulls out and accentuate lots of hidden details in a way that iWOW simply can't. I'd recommend giving both a try, but it's VolumeLogic for me. Oh, and one more thing -- it seems that iWOW takes over from VolumeLogic, making it impossible to use both at the same time; as such, uninstalling iWOW to go back to VolumeLogic is a real pain. PNGCrusher 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Check out PNGCrushrrr. Does pretty much the exact same thing, but I've found that my version is more stable and effective -- especially on 24-bit Photoshop PNGs and Apple Preview-created PNGs. [alert admin]

I'm not sure what the issue is, but when I tried to sync my iTunes library with a copy that I had made about a week ago on my external FireWire harddrive, I experienced some very strange things. First of all, after I ran the compare command, I was given a list of 51 and 151 songs respectively that were out of sync between the libraries on "Mac 1" and "Mac 2". That seemed a bit low to me, but I didn't have any hard figures to go on, so I assumed that it was at least semi-accurate. Because I merely wanted to update the older library with the changes that I had recently made (deleting duplicates, renaming songs, etc), I deselected all of the Mac 2 songs for syncing. When I did the actual sync, I was given a number of errors in German which prevented the Sync operation from continuing even though the status bar seemed to indicate that files were still copying. I hit the "Stop Copying" button and tried again. Same thing... I then deselected everything and then systematically transferred each artist group individually... no errors. I had no faith that my syncing operation had actually worked, so I opened up Deja Vu and mirrored my iTunes library with the one on the FireWire drive, taking care to delete any differences (I wanted them to be synced after all). After 20 minutes or so, my 35GB of mp3s were successfully backed up with a log showing that 1398 items were copied... including album artwork and the XML file. A far cry from the 51 songs that syncOtunes found. Finally, somehow, my ~/Desktop folder ended up being renamed to "12 Ender (a song for you - skips).mp3". And now I can't seem to un-rename it! This is the weirdest error I've ever experienced. I wouldn't recommend this app until these major issues are worked out and a better, more reliable method for syncing is developed. [alert admin]

That's because it's a Firefox/Flock browser plugin and not an application. This really should be listed on addons.mozilla.com.
