More Ichat Effects 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Does this software make one more productive or presentable? Nope. Is it just good software that is fun? Yup. Thank you for creating it and offering it for free. [alert admin]

Ubuntu (The Breezy Badger) 5.1.0 (Mac OS X)
Download, Registration, & Password
First off, I want to thank the author(s) for putting this VPC image together. This package should allow people to experiment with a clean, easy to use, functional variant of Linux. Second off, I wanted to offer the details of MY download experience. My experience may or may not resemble anyone else's, but is seemingly worthy of note, in light of some of the other criticism. The download did NOT require a registration, but did require that I re-trype a provided password, much like many online services do in attempts to prevent people from creating numerous or bogus accounts. The download happened via Bit Torrent and took about 2.5 hours over our T1. There were 3 seeders for most of the download. While that is not blazing speed, it certainly is not prohibitive. Third, while not noted on the VT site and there is no read me file, the login and password for this installation is as follows: ubuntu / ubuntu Best of luck with the image! [alert admin]

Okay. So I bought this software. It certainly has cut down the amount of SPAM I receive daily by a substantial margin. It has not cut it to zero, though, but, in my mind, that would have been tantamount to expecting miracles. There have been numerous responses from ISP saying that they look into all allegations of SPAM, that this is a serious situation, etc. I feel quite good about being able to mount some defense, some counterattack to all of the crap that winds up downloading into my copy of Entourage. I thank the author for creating such a tool and for supporting my computing platform of choice. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.0 (Mac OS X)
Overall, I am very pleased with Office 2004. ![]()

As a teacher, I purchased the student / teacher edition, and I have been wildly impressed with Office 2004. For one thing, it cost only $150 and allows me to legally and easily install the software on THREE computers in mt home. (My wife and I are both using the software on separate Macs.) My uses are primarily Entourage and Excel, and both fit the bill well me. I have not had the Entourage issue (failing to start) other have experienced, but I did have to re-author my rules, which stopped working properly after the upgrade. Nevertheless, the new junk mail filter is both accurate and very convenient, and the colorized display for segregating eMail by date, author, and other criteria is awesome, making finding old email MUCH easier. And Excel, in all its variants, it is still software that qualifies are miraculous in my book. I don't know of software on any platform, by any other vendor that is as complete and useable as Excel. The MacBU did well, and I thank them for the product and Microsoft for making it affordable (at least for teachers and students). [alert admin]

SnapNDrag 1.3.7 (Mac OS X)
This little application simply does the job for which it was intended, and it does the work flawlessly. SnapDrag has every feature I need as well as a number of options I didn't realize would be so very useful. Further, the application continues to evolve and improve, and it is FREE. Thank you, Yellow Mug. [alert admin]

Windows Media Player 9.0 (Mac OS X)
> Compare: Movietrailer Windows Media and the same movietrailer in QuickTime. Okay, I did. The first thing that jumped out was the fact that the colors were much more vivid and seemingly true with the MS product. Note especially the beginning of the clips, the "ladies and gentleman" section. As much as it kills me to admit, the flesh tones and the greens, specifically, are simply better with WMP. Installation of WMP9 can be VERY slow, depending on the Mac on which it is being installed. On a G5, it was fast, while on a iMac DV (G3/400), it was a dog, taking over ten minutes. This version does not seem to play all of the media that the Windows or OS 9 edition can, but WMP9 does seem to cover a good deal of ground. I suddenly have access to NUMEROUS sites that just three days ago were inaccessible. Talking to a MS representative at a MacWorld, I was told that several of the older video compression schemes, which are included in the OS 9 version of WMP, were authored by third party companies who would probably never port their work to OS X and, accordingly much of this was out of Microsoft's hands. I had / have no way of knowing whether this was a lame excuse, the whole truth, or a combination of the two. If I have to guess, I would think this WAS / IS an obstacle, but not an insurmountable one (e.g., VLC and MPlayer are capable of decoding most of this media) if MS really wanted to tackle it. With that said, there may be legal / contractual roadblocks. Bottom Line: WMP9 does seem to work well for me (despite a VLC commandeering issue and no real way to set handling defaults). While it does seem a bit feature poor in comparison to the Windows variant, for me, over the past three days, WMP9 for X has been stable, usable, and welcomed. Thank you Microsoft. [alert admin]

>Now I just tried the [quick start] 172 KB file only on ultra and it took it to 144 KB. Okay. I did the same. I also archived that .pdf file also. The .zip file was 148 KB, which is 4 KB larger that the .7z file. The author says that 7zX will typically save 2-10% more than conventional zip compression. These number bear out that claim. >There was no difference in size from ultra to…

The previous reviewer is correct that the Parallels company did release at least two (possibly three?) versions of B6: 2.1.1812.5 and 2.1.1812.7. While the former did break my networking for Windows XP and 98SE, the latter seems to have restored it. In the most current beta, the 'host-only networking' option is apparently currently unavailable (and grayed as an option). On the brighter note, 2.1.1812.7 seems to be the first version of the beta to be able…

To get the proper display driver, you need to install the Parallel Tools. Run your Windows 98 VM, and then do the following: VM > Install Parallel Tool. I believe that the sound support and wireless support is still lacking, at least for Win98 SE, at this stage of the beta development.

>it sends complaints to abuse desks of every IP and domain in the email. For example, this program may send complaints to seven different abuse desks when only two are appropriate. Well, this might be a positive thing. If other IP addresses and domains are open relays, Sp@mX might be (rightly so) one more voice urging open relays to be closed. >Even worse, if your internet provider is involved in getting mail to you, then Sp@mX…
