I'm sorry, but this sort of software is a cause of distrust and resentment between kids and parents. If you're a parent you should be able to trust your kid - if you can't, then you've failed as a parent. And if you trust your kid, you obviously don't need this software. If you're a kid and you find out that your parent is monitoring your computer usage (any reasonably computer-savvy kid should be able to do that fairly easily), then that severely damages the trust the kid has with the parent. If you want to keep your kid from "sneaking around behind your back", then educate your kid. Teach them what's right and wrong and instill good values in them. Don't spy on them. And if you want to keep your kid from becoming a recluse with their computer and the internet, you don't do that by spying on them. You do that by getting them involved in activities (that they like - don't force stuff on them, that's even worse), encouraging them to make friends and to hang out with said friends, etc. And remember, kids don't become recluses just because they're exposed to the internet - there's usually some reason for them to want to retreat from the world. Find out what it is and help them (maybe they need to make new friends, maybe they're depressed, etc.). Don't spy on them. And this is spoken from the viewpoint of a college student who grew up with computers and the internet and knows what he's talking about. I went through a phase where I spent most of my time on my computer and the internet. My parents didn't spy on me - they simply bought me a clamshell iBook and told me to sit in the family room when I was using my computer - that way I interacted with my family and wasn't shut up in my room. And I soon outgrew that phase and started hanging out with my friends again. And if you really insist on distributing this software, at least get rid of the godawful metal look. [alert admin]

Keyster 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Ok, I just downloaded it to see what it looked like after seeing that 5-star rating. The result? The person who did that rating is either the developer himself or is somebody who never actually looked at the program and has some reason for sucking up to the developer. The interface on this program is godawful. It's hard to tell what it's doing and it looks like somebody just took REALbasic, downloaded my hotkey example code, and wrapped a listview around the hotkeys without actually putting any thought into it. Seriously, if you want hotkeys and for some reason you don't want to use Quicksilver's triggers then go with Spark. It's a really nice, well-designed, intuitive hotkey manager and it's free. Keyster 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I'm not even going to download this app it's so ridiculous. I can't believe that the author has the gall to publish this as a $15 shareware app (even a $5 shareware fee for this is stupid) when there's multiple other apps out there that do this for free, such as Spark or the triggers feature of Quicksilver. What possible reason is there for me to use this app over the various free solutions out there? [alert admin]

I just discovered that SIMBL requires Panther to operate and will crash Safari if run under Jaguar. I'm sorry I can't make SafariSource work on Jaguar but it's out of my control. I will update the requirements list to be correct. [alert admin]

MenuCalendarClock 1.0.0b1 (Mac OS X)
I can't find a list of the changes between this and CalendarClock. And in testing, this has fewer features than CalendarClock. I'll hold off on upgrading for now. [alert admin]

AlphaCapture 1.0b0 (Mac OS X)
I installed it and when it auto-launched sys prefs it crashed. I launched sys prefs manually and looked at the prefpane. Looks like a decent set of options, but when I want configuration of my screen capturing I'll use Screen Snapz Pro - with that I can configure it during the capture instead of having to go to the prefpane to toggle options. Additionally, apparently AlphaCapture injects some code into the Finder. When I tried to trash it, it insisted that AlphaCapture was still in use despite me quitting the daemon. I force-trashed it (Secure Empty Trash) and the Finder crashed with a dyld error, making me think that AlphaCapture injected code into the Finder and that's why I couldn't throw it away. This makes me very uneasy, especially since I was not warned that it was doing this. [alert admin]

Quicksilver 1.0b27 (Mac OS X)
Quicksilver is by far the best application on my computer. I used to be a LaunchBar user but ever since I found QuickSilver I've loved it! Quicksilver is faster than LaunchBar, much prettier, and has a lot more features. And what's better is that Quicksilver is under rapid development and the creator is very responsive to feedback. And with the recent betas plugin development has expanded Quicksilver even further. So far I've written 4 Quicksilver plugins. Quicksilver is more than an application. It's a way of life. GetMacAddress 1.0 (Mac OS X)
What on earth is the point of this? You can get your ethernet address through the Network prefpane. This looks like a quick app somebody knocked off because they were learning how to code for the first time, and then decided to post it on VersionTracker so they could annoy everybody who sees it. Marbles Deluxe 1.3 (Mac OS X)
This is a pretty fun game. The logic for moving the marble could be a little smarter (or at least *explained*) - it liked to trap me with movement that didn't seem logical. If I set up a board like
.-.
|G|
.-.-'-'-.
|S| |R| |
'-'-'-'-'
where S is start, R is rock, and G is gem, it would move me like
-> -> -> <- /
which would have me trapped where the Gem used to be. The movement I expected was
-> -> / / ->
There were other similar situations, such as the marble moving itself onto a trapped death-square (trapped as it was a dead-end) instead of going the straight path to the exit. This was on the level with the bombs after hitting the second bomb and swapping the skulls - I tried to move to the end and it moved me left instead
Marble-moving logic aside, this game is fun but just a bit too pricey given the estimated replay value (since I don't think 100 levels will take that long to get through). If a vibrant community of level-builders sprung up (and thus replay value given a big boost) I'd probably buy it, but without that I'll have to think long and hard about spending $20 on this.
But once again, I do say this is a very fun game. For those of you who haven't, try the demo!

Mail.appetizer 1.0rc3 (Mac OS X)
Very nice. My only complaint (and it's a big one - I can't use this until it's resolved) is that it has no means of limiting itself to just your inbox. I'm on several high-volume lists that get filtered into their own mailboxes, and I simply just can't use this until it only shows for my inbox. But aside from that problem, this is pretty impressive. I can assure you, each and every bug report sent to the feedback address is read and investigated, the problem is we as engineers aren't allowed to officially respond to the feedback emails. But we are reading them, so don't worry.

Wow, way to lambast the app for a few minor nitpicks. Still, I'll try and address your issues: 1) You're right, it did take 3 years for Yahoo! to come out with a new Mac version. But that says absolutely nothing about future support. Instead of complaining about this, you should be encouraged at the fact that Yahoo! has decided that not only is the Mac platform worth pursuing, but that this new version is a…

To be fair, this is actually a nasty bug in Apple's own Address Book code, and Yahoo! Messenger simply happens to trigger it far more often than anything else. This bug has been replicated in an independent test app that was sent to Apple, so hopefully they'll get on the ball and fix it soon.

Well, Apple is apparently renaming Rendezvous to OpenTalk because they were sued over the name, but there's 2 reasons why I haven't changed the name of this app: 1) I really don't like the name OpenTalk. I wish Apple had come up with something better 2) I haven't seen any signs of this name change elsewhere. If you search on apple.com, the term OpenTalk gets no results whereas there is a page all about Rendezvous. Eventually I think…

I LOVE this program!!! Too bad Jobs Boast of the world rushing to Rendezvous was all Apple BS!
Uhh, hello? I've certainly not heard of anything that does everything Rendezvous does on Windows, aside from the Windows implementation of Rendezvous that things like iTunes uses, which is *not* built in to Windows. And if you look at the list of known services in Rendezvous Browser, there is a *lot* of applications and protocols offering Rendezvous support.

Safari won't load with the new bundle
Please, email me privately with all the information you have on this. I haven't heard of this error before and I can't imagine why it would show up with the new version if it didn't with the old.

Wow, you are the absolute worst type of user. You give a product a horrible rating because you experience an issue that has never been experienced by anybody else, and yet you refuse to help solve the issue (or even prove that BM2 was the cause of the problem). Do me a favor - next time you run into a problem like this that you don't want to spend the time to help solve, don't bother…

Preference Pane does not appear
Hrm, this is odd. I haven't seen this problem myself (and I use PithHelmet as well). I can't imagine how the cached array of keys could cause this problem. Anyway, glad you seem to have gotten it working.

I'm glad you like it. I will note that there's another way of changing the colors. I describe it in my blog entry here. I will add a GUI preference to colors in a future update once I figure out how to add a preference pane to Safari's preferences.
