Just playing with it for half an hour and understanding its inference engine will improve your Sudoku technique significantly. Far, far better at deduction than Su Doku Solver. The drag-and-drop decoding of puzzles in GIF format is a brilliant touch. The only minor negative is that the interface feels a little bit sluggish on my G4. [alert admin]

Shiira 1.0 (Mac OS X)
VT system requirements are wrong
Shiira 1.0 is strictly for Tiger and won't run on Panther because (for starters) it links to a different version of libcurl. [alert admin]

AlarmX 1.22 (Mac OS X)
If simply double-clicking a user program causes a kernel panic, that's a bug/corruption in the operating system, not the program. [alert admin]

Gimp.app 2.0.0 (Mac OS X)
Works fine for me...Probably just a temporary problem. [alert admin]

Kurisu 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Nice little program, well-conceived and not too hard to customise. The included quizzes/kurisus are pretty good, too. Had a couple redraw glitches but otherwise no major problems. [alert admin]

Anthill 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Control is one of the most crucial fundamentals of a game. I love many retro games, but the stuttery, unresponsive control is unbearable. (As an aside, it also dumps several megabytes' worth of audio and image files in your home directory for no apparent reason.) [alert admin]

Mactracker 2.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Mactracker is an invaluable service to the Mac community, the spiritual heir of NewerTech's GURU. The author is very responsive to bug reports, and it's free. What more could you ask for? [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 0.8 (Mac OS X)
UI not perfect, but a fine browser indeed ![]()

The skin is not bad (I still prefer Safari's, but it's a huge improvement over 0.7 and I quite like the look of the tabs), but the UI still has a few issues in terms of fit and finish, as do all Mozilla-based projects. On the other hand, Java support is still more stable in FireFox than Safari, it's way smoother than using Mozilla itself, and the price is unbeatable. This is one of the best browsers available for pre-Panther users. [alert admin]

NeoOffice/J 0.7.1 (Mac OS X)
I also get a crash on launch with my Dual G4. Maybe it's a bug with dual processors? [alert admin]

Between Karelia, Lighthouse, and Cobalt, it's hard to think of anything Sun has bought that they didn't burn to the ground.

I love this update :):):) Graphire USB
Thanks for this comment! If you hadn't posted it I would have just believed Wacom's web site that it only supports the Intuos and not my first-generation Graphire. It seems to work fine and yes, it's great to finally have a real control panel.

Wrong, the telnet exploit is completely unrelated to this Security Update. Panther was and still is vulnerable, and I can only assume that Jaguar is as well since it clearly hasn't been fixed on Panther. However it is not nearly as serious as the malware: exploit that is every bit as critical as the HelpViewer problem, and harder to fix.

As you may know, Microsoft discovered a "security hole" in MSN and is going to refuse anyone using an outdated version of MSN Messenger after October 15th. They've been pestering everyone using an older version of MSN every time they log in. Unfortunately, third-party applications like Fire are treated as old versions of Messenger, and will also be blocked from MSN. It will take some time before the open-source folks figure out how to…
