LiteSwitch X 2.6 (Mac OS X)

REVIEW + TIPS

Last year I downloaded (vsn 2.6) and tried it for a month. Here's my Review:
( Note: Apple's built-in App-Switcher is: [apple]+[tab] )

(+) PROS:

  • + Multiple Hot-Key Activation Choices
    • + Right-Mousers can more easily activate it ( e.g., [control]+[tab] )
    • + And Likewise Left-Mousers ( e.g., [control]+[return] )
  • + You can EASILY step-navigate through Apps by releasing and pressing the 2nd Hot-Key key (to Reverse direction press the [shift] key as the 2nd key instead).
  • + Right-Click an App's icon to see Contextual Menu Options (or use Keyboard Shortcuts INSTEAD)
  • + Provides MANY Options you can set in System Preferences
(-) CONS:
  • - Can NOT [esc] from it IF Hot-Key is set to: [apple]+[tab]
  • - If you've just hidden an app and then quickly depress and release the Hot-Key, it re-activates the Hidden App. It should NOT do that. What it should do is Select the Next ACTIVE App below the one on top (which is standard OS X behavior).
  • - Developer never responded to my Important Email Inquiry (and why I never bought it)
  • - NOT updated since 7-06 (1.5 yr)
  • - When Intel Macs were released it took 1-YEAR for an Intel-compatible update
* SUMMARY ( RATING: 3 / 5 ): A real Time-Saver. It makes app-switching easier & brings new useful features into this process.

IF the Developer was responsive to emails and updated this app more frequently I'd raise my rating to 4 / 5.

What would Help? This proposed Enhancement would save a lot of time when many Apps are open: SEGREGATE Active and Hidden Apps into Distinct Groupings wherein Active ones are navigated first. Either:
  1. Place Active on LHS and Hidden to the RHS, OR
  2. Place Active on Top and Hidden below in a 2nd list
CRUCIAL to any software purchase is the Developer's commitment to their customers needs and wants. If a Developer is not giving adequate consideration to customer needs; and is not planning ahead of the upcoming OS changes; then their product is not a worthy investment.

* USAGE TIP: In order to confidently rely on the use of the [esc] key I recommend you NOT use [apple]+[tab] as the designated Hot-Key. [alert admin]

Overflow 2.0.6 (Mac OS X)

An Indispensable Tool (In-Depth Review...)

I've been using Overflow for 6 months. It's an indispensable tool for extending the dock; for organizing my projects, applications, folders and files; and for letting me create Finder portals to my folders. It's a real time saver and so EASY to use!

PTHPasteboard 4.2.0 (Mac OS X)

A Missing Piece of The Mac OS System

This is an indispensable tool to the Mac user. I recommend it to everyone and install it on every Mac. I have to echo some of what Joehodge says so elegantly below: "Excellent clipboard history tool [...] it stays out of my way when not needed, doesn't obscure 'full screen' apps, holds a large history of styled text and other items and takes just a flick of the wrist for me to summon and a single click to paste." You can paste clipboard text (current or history) as unformatted text (plaintext) into any application. And you can set it up to paste as plaintext by default, as I have. Thank you PTH.com! On The Job 2.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Simply Elegant

On The Job is so easy to use that I actually enjoy putting it to work tracking and billing client projects. I also use it to track the time (by task) I spend on my own project developments as it helps me to clearly see where my time goes. A great professional & personal time management tool. See how it works (with illustrations) and a detailed review @ The Apple Blog: http://theappleblog.com/2006/09/30/on-the-job/ Steven Hotelling [alert admin]

MainMenu SAVED my MAC and my Sanity!

PROS:

About 6 months ago my G4 MAC (OS X, Tiger) was a mess. I had so many problems with its strange (and evil) behavior that I was ready to call an exorcist. And my system performance had really slowed down. It was then that I discovered MainMenu here while researching Maintenance Utilities and decided to give it a try.

I was amazed at how easy it was to use AND at how quickly it eradicated ALL those system and application irregularities I was experiencing! Since then my OS and applications have been running SO fine. :)

This latest release shows a substantial UI improvement with nice graphics. Moreover, the new features and improved organization make it EVEN EASIER to use.

CONS:

- I have been trying to donate to the vendor since May but they don't want my money. :(

- There is No Help documentation, HOWEVER the vendor has told me that they are working on it AND I've presented some good reference material below - keep reading.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

Crucial reference documentation on the WHATS & WHENS & HOWS of Performing OS X Routine Maintenance can be found at the following two links:
