Adobe Reader 7.0.0 (Mac OS X)

How to hide the .app extension

"I guess we're all going to have to get used to .app file extensions on everything sooner or later" jeffseaver: The Finder only shows an application's .app extension when the application's name has a '.' in it, e.g. "Adobe Reader 7.0.app." Remove the ".0" and the Finder will just show "Adobe Reader 7". Apple Xcode 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Great update

Despite all the complaints about downloading this, I downloaded it using a combination of Safari and Transmit very quickly. Camino/Firefox both have their own built-in FTP clients if you'd rather use those. This update is great. Indexing is so fast I don't notice it's happening (even on Java projects). Subversion support will be really helpful too. I also like some of the interface changes and debugger additions. I'm not sure how much I'll use dead-code stripping as an Objective-C developer, but whatever. They also added regular expression finds for normal file searches (instead of just Find in Project). There are some things that bug me about this release though... I can't see the need for editors in EVERY window, including Build Results and SCM. I also wish they would fix the long-standing bug of using a different regular-expression syntax for smart groups and Find/Find in Project. Regardless of these issues, I think this is a solid update that makes a good product even better. [alert admin]

OmniWeb 4.5 beta 2 (Mac OS X)

Re: Neigh-sayers: How about trying it before you cry Safari..

Xapplimatic: Unfortunately, your testing methodology for speed doesn't quite work. You can't test on a non-local server that you have no control over, because there are plenty of issues in terms of server load and fluctuations in connection speed to skew your tests. If you want to do a speed comparison, you should do two things: 1) Store a file on your hard drive and do a true test of page rendering times. This tests the speed of the renderer itself (no networks in there). Make sure nothing else is running in the background. Load the page several times. Take the average. 2) Store a file on an isolated server on your LAN. Make sure it's a wired connection (there are issues with interference in wireless connections that might cause problems). Have nothing else accessing the server. This way you can test how they handle packet downloading. Load the page several times and take the average. I'm not refuting that OmniWeb is faster. It very well could be. But testing it on Apple.com (a dynamic homepage) on a dialup connection and being off by 2 seconds is pretty much explainable by simple fluctuations in your internet connection and server load. Apple CHUD Tools 3.0.0b24 (Mac OS X)

re: SO DOES THIS...

Libertyforall: No, this is not for benchmarking. It's a profiling tool for developers to help them find bottlenecks in their code. [alert admin]

Apple iCal 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

I've had no…

problems with iCal. It would be nice if you could merge calendars when you post them to your .Mac account. Other than that, no complaints really. This update really takes care of the issues I had before, which were tiny if anything. A larger update would've been nice though... [alert admin]

This worked very…

well for me. Synchronization with my Palm m100 went smoothly, and I'm glad they added the ability to choose which groups to sync from Address Book and which calendars to sync from iCal. Another huge addition will come on January 7, when they add the ability to sync your Address Book entries with your.Mac address book (according to www.mac.com). Overall, I was very happy with this. Much better than the beta for me! [alert admin]
