Moneydance 2008r4 (Mac OS X)
a good replacement for quicken 
Over the last two weeks I re-entered a years checking and credit card transaction into Moneydance. Quicken had completely screwed up my records for 2009. Before beginning this exercise, I tried every highly rated financial management system. Keep in mind, that I let the Fidelity manage my investments and do not use need to use Moneydance for that purpose. After many years with Quicken, it took a bit of time to get used to Moneydance. The intense effort of entering all that data really got me to the point where I found it easier to interface with Moneydance and with Quicken. I highly recommend it. [alert admin]

Home Inventory 1.8.2 (Mac OS X)
format, layout are "ok". Import of pictures is fine. BIG PROBLEM: you cannot export any of the pictures in the database. No way to send a file to your insurance company.. Basically in, good out NO [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.1.2 (Mac OS X)
both excel and word will not start. both give "not enough memory" messages. I now have two bricks on my machine. perhaps it's finally time to migrate away from office [alert admin]

announced plans for iphone based apps
jobs has announced plans for iphine based apps. before release they will be vetted by apple. smart. the contents of my iphone are too important to let some not quite competent mess it up. BTW several apps (e.g., 1password) have managed to develop quite useful iphone applications
