DataViz Documents To Go 6.008 (761) (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

An excellent product

Hi, I purchased and download Documents To Go Premium Edition (after having bough the whole Office Suite for my PC at work) and installed it on my Dual USB iBook w/10.3.4 without a flaw. Perhaps I'm the odd exception, however, this is an excellent product, aside from a few issues that I've got to resolve shortly. I use a Tungsten C and being in sales, I keep the word format MSA's with me for when I'm out of the office and need to reference the info. I hope everybody else can get their problems worked and take advantage of this great product. I just wish they could make Mac versions of Beyond Contacts and Smart Lists To Go too! [alert admin]

Mail Archiver X 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

How does it work with Entourage X?

Hi, I understand Entourage X (10.1.4) uses the standard mbox format for its mail database. Can this software be used for arching Entourage email? [alert admin]

Audio Hijack Pro 1.2.6 (Mac OS X)

Help importing audio

Hi, I thought I read someplace you could import the audio tracks from a DVD with this application. My question: How do I do that? I've got a concert DVD that I'd like to import the audio from so I can put it onto cd. Any suggestions? I looked through the tutorial and either I'm not smart enough to figure it all out or I just overlooked it. HELP! [alert admin]

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Updates to Symantec product(s)

Hi, Please don't flame me for this, but as a one-time Symantec SSV in the Mac forums, let me make this quick comment regarding the timliness of Symantec updates with regard to Apple Mac OS patches and major OS releases. Until a patch or revision is final, Symantec cannot release a product patch. The reason is that Apple can still made changes to the OS up until the very last minute. The only advice I can give here, which I've posted back in the day in the NAVM/NUM forums, is that you ought to just hold off on purchasing a new revision or installing a new patch until its compatability can be determined. In some cases this might not be possible. Just a recommendation. Hope this clarifies some of the issues that many of you seem to be expressing. [alert admin]

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 9.0 (Mac OS X)

Working like a charm

Just an FYI, lately both my Hotmail and Earthlink email have been getting filled with infected files from bogus MS Security alerts to other assorted viruses like KLEZ and what not--NAVM like a charm keeps catching these files as they get download via Entourage--a must upgrade I think. Toast Titanium 6.0 (Mac OS X)

A definite improvement over 5.x

Finally, I am able to burn disks and make audio cd's under Mac OS 10.2.x with Toast 6 whereas before under Toast 5.x it'd continuously crash. I just wish I didn't have to shell out for the full product and submit a voucher for my $20 rebate. I'm just glad that there is finally a version that works properly under Mac OS X. [alert admin]

Symantec NAV virus def Oct (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

NAVM 9 Does the job

Hi, The latest defs for NAVM 9 which ard listed as being for 26/27 August 2003 installed without a hitch via LU. I must say that although PC viruses don't run on a Mac OS X machine, it's nice to be able to catch them when I come across them so I can report the offending sender (I realize this doesn't make much difference as the sender was just an unintentional bystander and got infected without knowing it), but it does feel good reporting them. I had a couple of bogus MS Security patch updates come across as .exe files in Entourage as attachments that were purported to be cumulative MS security update patches. Of course, we all know MS never sends that stuff out, but upon saving the file to disk, AP flagged the files as being infected. Does what it should and does it well! [alert admin]

Sorry to see it go

As much as Microsoft products tend to get me frustrated, whether on my awesome Mac or my loathsome work PC, there is definitely a need for IE 5.x for the Mac, whether I love MS bloatware, hate it or just use it because nobody else makes a product that fits my needs. I use Upshot for work and I'm afraid to say that IE is the ONLY browser that is supported on the Mac and PC side and now with the Mac version going away (and MSN 2 for Mac--the Mac version of MSN 8 for PC not being supported), I'm going to be left using software that might very well, 3-4 months down the road, contain some flaw that I will be unable to have patched. If Apple can get Safari to be as universal and accepted as IE, then they'll have my support 100%, but as it stands now, I'm still going to be using IE, Opera 6.02 and Netscape 7.0x. hate to see IE leave. Taking a fresh look at the "new" Speed Download

Well, I am a registered user of version 1.x of Speed Download and it is unfortunate if what I've read is true (that the upgrade price is the price of registering a new version--I'm not saying it is true, just "if" what I've read so far is true). That aside, I really do like the new interface. I've got to put it through the works before I make a determination if I'm going to leave iGetter. One thing I would like to have seen is the ability to set an AV scanner for files after they've been downloaded. My guess is that the developers figure that the leading AV product for the Mac is NAVM (of which I'm using NAVM 9 and it really is great now that it scans for both Mac and PC viruses) which uses AutoProtect to scan a file once its been downloaded and written to the hard drive--hence, no need to run the scanner again as the file will have been scanned once. Also, I'm going to test to see if it'll integrate with the new MSN 2.0 for Mac OS X software. iGetter still lacks support for the newest MSN browser and I'd like to see if will integrate--this for me is important as I do alot of browising via MSN 2.0. I'm also hoping that some earlier problems that might have been isolated to me have cleared with regard to mouseovers of the cursor over portions of the applications UI as in the past with 1.x, the cursor would disappear and then reappear elsewhere in the UI (very odd indeed). If these couple of things are resolved, I'm going to pay the upgrade money. And I hope nobody brings up the spyware issue--if you don't like the idea of having a port opening up on your computer, just desable the "check for update" feature. Thanks. [alert admin]

Symantec Norton Internet Security 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Working like a charm

First, I've been using this product since 1.0 and it has finally met up to my expectations with having about 80% functionality of the PC counterpart NIS 2003. Better logging and spam filtering being two of the spots where the Mac version is behind, HOWEVER, I can live without the spam filtering as it tends to be more of a headache and not worth the trouble. Better logging is a must though. One feature I would like existed on Desktop Firewall 2.0, the enterprise version of NIS. Whenever a specific app opened a specific internet connection, you were presented with options: allow a one time connection, allow all future connection or all of the same type. Pretty cool. Privacy Control has always worked well. And NAVM9, I can only say great things for (aside from a clunky new LU interface). I use Earthlink, and somebody sent me a bugs MSN Security alert with an attached .exe file. I knew it was bogus as MS never sends an attached file. Anyways, selected to "save" the attached file to see what NAVM9 would say and sure enough, AutoProtect flagged it as the W32.Gibe.B@MM virus. Just wish there was on-demand scanning (I know, AP is supposed to scan anything that is written to the drive, but I feel more secure when I can click and scan an item that is located on a shared drive (like my .Mac account files). Overall, a great product suite for the money! [alert admin]

This is NOT an OS 9 product!!! They lie.

Hi, I'm not here to criticize, but since you are running Mac OS 9, and had looked at the system requirements for NIS 3.0 for Mac, you would have seen that it indicates that an older version, v1.02 I believe, was included for Mac OS 9 and prior backwards compatability. I don't think it directly states anyplace that version 3.0 itself, or any of its components, would run under Classic. That aside, Symantec has always offered…

Norton Internet Security 2003? hand over cash? or trash? (3.0)

Hello morgan_uk, NIS 2003 is NOT the same is Norton Internet Security 3.0 for Mac OS X. NIS 2003 is the PC version. Do not purchase it as it will not run on your Mac. As for Mac OS 9 compatbility, none of the version 3.0 programs will work for you. If you bought this version, and are unsatisfied, Symantec does offer a 30 day money-back guarantee. IMHO, NIS 3.0 for Mac OS X is a…
