AKVIS Sketch 10.0 (Mac OS X)
I have used this for almost 4 years. ![]()

I started using this back when it was version 3. I used the 10 day trial and posted a bunch of pictures to the different art gallery sites I post to and many people liked the way my artwork looked and I started to tell them what I was using. I then contacted the guys who made it and told them about my pictures and that I had been advertisiing it by way of word of mouth and they asked if I could send some examples of my work and a small tutorial on how I mad the pictures. I did and they gave me a home license so I thought "Hey, that was really cool of them" so I did some more stuff and they gave me a full license for the program. I didn't pay the price and have always thought it was a little steep.. They have updated this a bunch of times and have made a few changes, some I liked, some I found useless for my type of artwork. They continued to honor my license up to Version 9 and then have decided I had enough "FREE" so I would now have to pay to upgrade.. Even though 9 and up has some new features that I think are very nice I still feel the price is too high so I won't be upgrading unless I can get a reduced price as I still tell people all about the plugin.. I must say that the plugin when used in photoshop does seem a little touchy and will either crash or just locks up and won't save but the stand alone has always worked fine for me. I don't work for the company and would never recommend something that I would not use myself so we can kill the talk of me being a shill and as you can see not all of my review is on a positive note (ie. the price and the crashing of the plugin.) this program does however make some of the best sketch and paint simulations of any of the Mac programs I have ever found.. If only it would come down in price and fix the plugin part of this item.. I might be convinced to buy in at 30 or 35 dollars US but not at the high price it has at present.. You would think they would make a lot more money with a lowered price as their sales would probably be a 400% increase with a more reasonable price... I am not upset that they won't give me a free upgrade because they were so good about my license through 6 versions and the changes they made and the increased quality of the end results are worth an upgrade... JUST not at that high a price... so if you are a rich guy and don't care abourt price so much as results I highly recommend this product but if you are an average kind of guy like myself then I am afraid we will both be out of luck....sorry akvis but I had to be honest... Vue Esprit 7.0 (Mac OS X)
Even overlooking the fact that it is most difficult for me to use (I have quite a few 3D programs that I can use adequitely) I am amazed at the HORRIBLE support network and in particular their own website where no matter what I do I can not get support from. It runs you in circles and the links all come back to me putting in the same personal info over and over and it just never gets anywhere. The pioneer version promises that the restrictions will be lifted after I buy a particular plugin but it never EVER recognizes me installing the plugin so it still stays restricted. This after 60 dollars for the plugin.. If you go to the website you will find they do NOT accept any form of email whatsoever.. You can NOT contact them at all.. They sluff you off to Cornocopia's website and I am not allowed to use the forums as it too will not accept my personal info so a membership is not on the horizon. For the life of me I can not understand why they want anyone to buy something that does not work and leave you NO OPTION to get advice or troubleshooting info for the problems at hand.. I would truly LOVE to have this program and have literally tons of money to spend on all of the stuff on the website.. I know they would love to have my money but (and this is a BIG BUT) unless I know I can find a way to get any of this expensive software to work and at least have someone to get help from I would not give them ONE RED CENT of my money.. I am not a person that has a grudge against any one and am a true lover of making three dee stuff but I am truly saddened by my experience with these folks and would NOT recommend them to people, especially a beginner at using Vue... I see so much fantastic work done with this program and to tell the truth am very jealous that I can not join in on the fun.. PLEASE.. PLEASE !!.. fix your site and get the bugs out of this program and I would drop a few thousand dollars today on your products.. I AM SERIOUS.. I love to spend my money and I love making artwork but I HATE being made to run in circles chasing my tail.. REALLY I DO !!.... [alert admin]

Raptor 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
I don't add the URLs to my Browser, one at a time.. I copy paste them all into my Download page and that is all I have to do.. I don't even have to open another application.... this is fairly pointless, as far as apps go. I have no reason to even download this let alone USE it... [alert admin]

As an avid poser user I find this to be an excellent tool for "adjusting" my runtime folders (I have 4 of them), and for replacing corrupted .png files ( as they often die a terrible death at the hands of Poser sometimes).. Now if I hear you correctly I can maake .rsr's from .pngs.. That is fantastic as that would give me a way to make and store copies of the .rsr for the next time because a lot of content comes without the .rsr files now days...I found one problem with the last version. It did NOT combine ALL of my files from one runtime to another. I am extremely glad that I checked to see if it had or else I would have had to replace about 12 Gigs of content. I do keep CD backups of all my stuff but finding which ones I had lost and finding which CD they were on and then reinstalling them would have been , if not impossible, a real pain in the backside...my recommendation is to always check your transfers before you delete your files.. That said I do have nothing else but praaise for the function of this small Poser Utility.. It far exceeds the functions of it's competition(RSR-2-png convertors of which there are 2 or 3 around and most are OLD OLD OLD...keep up the good work and if you add a few more features I would consider even paying for this.. Poser utilities are like hens teeth here although you find MANY of them on the Art gallery stores around the Internet MOST are PC only.. it is supremely excellent to find someone like yourself making Poser utilities for the Mac.. my hat is off to you and if you have a mailing list I can get onto I would find being updated along the way PRICELESS...I am also spreading the word to a LOT of sites and if you contact me I will be glad to tell you a large number of places (that are art related specifically to put up ads for this... I would even be willing to make you a banner for your ad... [alert admin]

ArtMatic Voyager 1.2.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

So let me talk about This new version, which is entirely different from the earlier versions. For one thing it now runs in the background should you choose to. You have more control over the sun (the source of light here on these worlds) and now you can turn it off visually though it still lights the scene it is able to be invisible in the scenes sky. The presets are, like they say, a really easy source of being able to create "right out of the box". If you started with JUST ONE WORLD from the presets and started making artwork, by this time next year, if you made 3 or 4 pictures a day, you might have explored ONE TENTH of that world and there are literally hundred of worlds to explore.. Well you can imagine just how long it would take to run out of NEW stuff to explore and create pictures with... secondly, since it is non polygonal and is fractal based and the textures are procedural, no matter how far away or how close you get, you have crisp super detailed images.. not blurred out, DULL images like a lot of world making programs... If you also purchase the Artmatic Pro Application as well you can make your own worlds, skies, clouds, textures, surfaces and what have you... this greatly increases your ability to create new and visually stunning worlds of your own from scratch..oh, and did I say that it has some of the finest water effects anywhere?? Both of these either seperately or together make some magnificent artwork... Now lets talk about the support for these programs.. They have not only some of the quickest replies to problems where they help you till you get it right but also a uilist user group on the net for any kind of help you need .. from simple questions like how do I get a certain shadow technique to why does my program act like this and what do I do to fix it..they REALLY work with you on this stuff and you definitely get the feeling these guys want you to be happy with their software.. Not just blow you off after they get your money.. Another plus is that it is MADE just for Mac users... It is MAC ONLY and they don't even plan to make a PC version.. They use mac and they program for mac so it isn't just a PC program ported over but a TRUE native mac program. I bought this program many years ago and have upgraded to the latest version.. In all of those years I have never been sorry I got this program and along with Poser make up a large percentage of my art work. It's one of those programs that is easy to get hooked on and the kind that right after you get it your wife starts getting jealous of your spending so much time doing it..just plain old addictive... I have seen programs come up here and seen people raving about the application and thought to myself, hey, these guys must be working with the people that make this program or they are getting some kind of kickback for the hype they put into the feedback.... WELL, I can assure you that the ONLY reason I am so excited and am willing to say ALL of this stuff is because this app is just plain AWESOME and I have had so much pleasure with mine.. If you buy this program, it WON'T be one that you wish you hadn't bought the day after you get it.. You will be on one of the art gallery sites raving about how much you love your Voyager program and proud about the picture you just made.. I have seen that happen to people over and over and over again so I KNOW.. You can DO what you want but the ones that get this.. just wait and see if I'm lyin' or not... [alert admin]

Poser 7.0.1.109 (Mac OS X)
The things this addresses are all stuff that needed to be fixed. Also I think the UI on Version 7 is much better than version 6..not so stiff and rigid, you can now seperate the individual parts and move them where you like or close individual parts altogether.. Now UB it operates fantastic on my intel Mac and is 2 to 3 times faster (on MY machine anyway) when it comes to rendering... Where as Poser 6 would hang up if I tried to quit looking for a particular obj or texture from the library, it no longer does this. You can render as a seperate process now. Since I don't really buy Poser for the content it comes with (God KNOWS my 5 different runtime folders take up 60 some odd Gbs of space now) I am not bothered by the lack of clothes or props for Sidney or any of the Models that come with the higher priced versions. There are TONS of freebie items and then there are the literally hundreds of Poser stores on the web. I have used Poser since version 3 and this is, by far, the most stable version in my opinion..... This new update (1.1) fixes the problems I saw with my Poser... The stuff most people complain about aren't faults with the program but just individual opinions on How it should run ( UI changes..etc.) and not really mistakes in the way it was made to run when you use it...(My picture dissappears when I push this button, not how come the button wasn't made to be on the top of the page instead of the bottom.. one is a problem the other is just an opinion based on personal choice). For overall use I like Poser the best.. it has a medium learning curve (unlike say Maya) , the renders look good and there is Ton after ton of stuff out there to use and play with... so in MY OPINION, from the hard corp work direction to the hobby people just wanting a toy to play with, I think this covers most of all of them... and yes, maybe I am a (how did someone put it?) "FAN BOY" I say who else would know about the program and how it can be used but a person that spends 12 - 16 hours a day producing artwork with it...I worry about the results, NOT whether I like the placing of buttons and the like...you can learn any interface but you can't learn to be an artist except by doing it... I am sure some person will come along and say why do I use so much space to comment but they won't be commenting on Poser just commenting on ME...lol [alert admin]

I have used this for almost 4 years.
Oh, yeah, I forgot... It also washes out the colors a lot so I have to enhance them afterwards so I can see what another reviewer meant as well... also don't be fooled by the 4 stars this site gave to my ratings.. I chose excellent for the quality of the results, but, poor on the price I gave a neutral for one of the choices I did give an excellent for the…
