CoverFlow 1.997 (Mac OS X)
When I first saw iTunes 7, I was worried Apple just ripped you off (name and all!). I'm glad to see that wasn't the case. Congratulations on getting "assimilated"! [alert admin]

FastScripts 2.2.9 (Mac OS X)
I just wanted to give some props to this application and its developer. It's the application that finally made me realize the wonders of AppleScript, and I couldn't imagine using scripts without it. The app is fast, lightweight, and rock solid, and developer support is almost instantaneous. If you've ever wondered what the big deal about AppleScript is, give this app a spin. [alert admin]

Yojimbo 1.0 (Mac OS X)
It's been a long time since Bare Bones released a 1.0 version of a program, so I guess I can be a little surprised that even they don't get it right the first time. This app shows lots of promise: quick entry drop down, a drag and drop area, Spotlight searchable to level of individual notes. But it also has 1.0 problems: random crashes, lack of customization, weak importing capabilties, an overall lack of features. It's a good start, but this is a crowded area to be moving into. Mori already does Spotlight searches to the note level. Sticky Brain has a quick entry tab (I believe), and DevonThink just does a whole lot more with a whole lot more formats (although at the expense of simplicity and Spotlight searching). It's funny that just today I was looking for something like Yojimbo, a note app that was Spotlight searchable. In a few months, this may be the one. But it may be Mori. And if DevonThink could work in Spotlight, it would definitely be that. [alert admin]

OmniGraffle Pro 4.0rc1 (Mac OS X)
What's Up with the Tool Palette?
The latest version of OmniGraffle Pro is great, as should be expected form the Omnigroup, BUT what's up with the default tool palette location? Someone saw fit to move it out of the toolbar, which is good because it takes up a lot of room and makes other useful buttons hide off the edge of the window, but the new location at the top of the window is just plain ... well ... ugly, and *not* what I would expect from the Omnigroup. If they wanted to move it out of the toolbar (and I know you can put it back in the preferences, but moving it out is a good thing overall), it seems like they could come up with a better solution. Am I being picky? Perhaps, but otherwise the app is great, and I'm always looking for perfection from the Omnigroup. [alert admin]

OnyX 1.6 (Mac OS X)
Deleting the Preferences doesn't fix the crash on my PowerBook. The beta was working fine, however. [alert admin]

CopyWrite 2.1.0 (Mac OS X)
CopyWrite seems like a pretty cool little app. My only problem is that, even though it keeps all your individual documents as separate files inside a project folder, it is using a proprietary format for these files. It doesn't seem like it would take much to use RTF or some sort of XML file so that I could (a) recover easier from corrupt projects and (b) easily move them into another program. It does have pretty good export options, so perhaps it's just the fear of corrupted projects that bothers me. [alert admin]

DEVONthink PE 1.7.1 (Mac OS X)
I feel the need to counter Severus's post. I hope he doesn't take it personally, because I know what it feels like to be the *one* person who has a problem with an app that everyone else seems to love. But I think the vast majority of DevonThink users think it is a great app. I use it daily, and I've never had a corruption problem (with the database or any linked files). In fact, seeing how the program works, I'm not even sure *how* it could corrupt files outside of the datebase. This is the best info clipper and idea organizer out there. The developers are very responsive, and the the program just keeps getting better and better. [alert admin]

Our upgrade policy is MORE GENEROUS than what you're proposing! ![]()

I can see both sides of this argument. Tinderbox is a great program, but it's a niche program that has a small but dedicated user base. I can see why Eastgate needs to charge a premium for yearly upgrades, because it's a difficult program to get into (which keeps the number of users down), but once you do, you're probably OK paying the annual fee to use all the latest features. On the other hand,…

I can't speak for the developer, but I've been in contact with him today about this issue, and he seems to be working on it as we "speak."

I have to agree. I've been keeping an eye on this app for awhile, but they just priced themselves out of the picture. They're choice, of course, and I wish them well.
