Parallels Desktop 5.0 (Mac OS X)

Torture

I wish I had gone with one of the other alternatives. After installing Parallels 5, nothing works. It tells me that there is no system present or that WIndows won't start or several other error messages. 20 minutes ago all was well in v4. THere is no free phone support and the whole thing stinks. What a piece of crap. If you haven't made the mistake of starting with Parallels, go with something else. [alert admin]

CNET TechTracker app 1.0 beta 3 (Mac OS X)

I agree with everyone else - bogus!

I was able to download and install, but I too get a long list of apps that are supposedly out of date when they are not. THe worst thing is that the links you are directed to are all completely mis-associated with the apps they are supposed to reference. Click one, get another. WHoever wrote this doesn't even understand basic HTML. I would not trust your computer to this app. [alert admin]

Missing Sync for Palm OS 6.0.3 (Mac OS X)

I gave up on this.

It worked OK for a couple of years, but got progressively less functional as it failed to keep up with OS updates. I finally abandoned it in favor of iSync which works very well and has a much less confusing interface. [alert admin]

RealPlayer 11.1.0 (Mac OS X)

obsolete

I remember when RealAudio was the only game in town and it worked OK for its day. It is now hopelessly obsolete and really should be put to rest. It is fraught with error producing quirks (file not compatible, connection problems, slow or stuttering playback issues, arcane repetitive prompts). In short, it rarely works, causes people hours of frustration and most people ultimately give up trying to use it without success. Why do providers continue to do this to their potential patrons? Who knows? Nostalgia maybe. I wonder how many sales are lost in the online music sales business (and others) because of Real. If all that wasn't bad enough, there is virtually no tech support available for the free player adding to the frustration of the user. [alert admin]

BIAS Peak Pro 6.0.3 (Mac OS X)

Worst Yet - not!

It seems that v6 is just a little more sensitive to third party add-ons than previous versions. Thanks to the excellent tech support from BIAS, we were able to solve the issues I was having, First, Default Folder (a great app in its own right) is not compatible with Peak. Adding Peak to the DF exclusion list solved the cursor problem. The crashes were caused by Hear (by Joesoft), a trail product that I thought I had removed and is a known issue. I had to run the uninstaller to get rid of it thoroughly after which everything was fine in Peak which now gets a 4 from me. I can't give it a 5 because of the bumps in the road the newly induced sensitivity caused. Still, Peak is a great app. [alert admin]

BIAS Peak Pro 6.0.3 (Mac OS X)

worst yet

I have been using Peak for years and have loved it, but this version is so unstable as to be unusable. Constantly quitting unexpectedly, cursor becomes unresponsive, level meters respond before the file even reaches the waveform, most of the extra software doesn't work correctly and it is generally a huge disappointment. This despite a clean install and removal of all old preferences, etc, on a system that otherwise behaves flawlessly. If a fix is not forthcoming within days, I will be asking for a refund. FAXstf Pro 10.8.0 (Mac OS X)

10.9 Not Available

Why is this posted? A visit to the STF site will reveal that no such update is available and auto update yields the same result. This product has never worked correctly anyway so I guess this is no surprise. [alert admin]

Leopaque 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

WARNING

Do not use this. As with mzinke2 below, it completely corrupted my system while invoked. Strange window behavior, Mail badly affected. Luckily, when I reverted to translucent menu bar, the symptoms went away and I did not have to re-install Leopard, though it may be too early to know for sure. [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.7.0 (Mac OS X)

Still Useless

This version does not work. It rips to 99.87% then crashes leaving an unusable file every time. This same bug was present in the beta versions. This happens on any title and any computer I have tried it on, even unprotected homemade DVDs. [alert admin]

HandBrake 0.7.0-beta3 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't work at all.

Previous versions worked great, though with limited control options. This new version offers great options, but crashes at 99.87% creating a file that is unreadable. Infinitely repeatable on a variety of machines and disks. Unusable in this incarnation. [alert admin]

Keynote & Numbers -good Pages - bleh.

Wow. I think you are missing something. I used Word for years. I find it bloated, slow and completely unintuitive. Pages, on the other hand is rock solid and does exactly what I want it to do with great accuracy and little or no hassle. I work in an MS Office environment and everyone comments on how great my docs look. To each his own.

Windows switchers, use before you review

Well, in my case I have been a Mac user for 20 years and have used RealPlayer since its inception - when it used to work. It is still an excellent piece of software for those masochists out there. Knock yourself out. If you actually need or want to use multimedia content, use QT, Flash or even Windows Media Player with Flip4Mac.

I agree with Lickableunix

On top of all the points Lickableunix made, this program won't even install properly. IT stalls at 98% and then gives an error message that the program was not successfully installed. Attempts to use Pages result in constant crashes. Tech support has, as of yet, not been able to find the problem. I would wait for a month or two for them to get the bugs ironed out.

This should be called Bias Crash

There is something wrong with your system. Peak is 100% stable and has been for some time on both systems that I regularly use it on.
