Microsoft Messenger 7.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Don't waste your bandwith dl this "update"

If you have a corporate account (all 2 of you Mac OS X Microsoft Corporate Exchange server users out there), you'll get video chat (yeah, corporate executives spend TONS of time chatting on MSN with webcams...) Regular account holders get a new icon... Screw this app, dl the free aMSN which HAS video support and works fine. [alert admin]

Fenetres Volantes 0.2.3b (Mac OS X)

wow

Still has a few bugs left to iron out (it IS still a beta after all), but as it is, it is the most beautiful screensaver for Mac OS X. Very exposé-ish. Looks and feels liek something Apple would have created themselves! Highly recommended. [alert admin]

KDX 1.600 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Horrible

Avoid this Lame-ware at all cost. Looks horrible, performs worst. P2P has been taken over by Bittorent, for good, and there are much easier ways to share files between 2 users over the internet. So long to this piece of crap! [alert admin]

Apple Final Cut Studio 5.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Intel Version cannot use AE Plug Ins

As stated by a previous user, Afetr Effects plug ins DO NOT work on teh Intel version of FCP at this time. However, Apple has NOTHING to do with this. Adobe has not yet announced plans for a Universal Binary version of the After Effects plug-in API. Until they do (and they might never), Intel-based Macs owners are out of luck. Stick to your G5's for a while! [alert admin]

Torgo 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Torgo Rocks!

Manos, the hands of Fate is without a doubt the worst film ever riffed by the Mystery Science Theater 3000 gang. Awful and hilarious, the film showcased a weird "monster" (?) creature called Torgo. This screensaver perfectly captures the inane non-sense of the character with the madness-inducing Torgo theme played back ad nauseum in the background. The screen saver works fine on my PPC G5 PowerMac dual core. This is a joke screen saver and as such, it's great. [alert admin]

Duhbya's Days Are Numbered 1.0 (Mac OS X)

great

Necessary-ware for all Mac users, no matter what country you live in. Bush jr is by far the worst president in the history of the United States. He stands against the values of truth, Justice & freedom on which America's very existence. He, along with his neo-conservatives puppetmasters, have comitted crimes against humanities, destroyed the US army for years to come by throwing it into a senseless war and destroyed the US economy. Oh yeah, he's also a religious fanatics basing his decisions on a book of fable written thousands of years ago. Jeez, I'd have voted in Bill Gates before I'd have voted Bush! [alert admin]

Symantec Norton AntiVirus 10.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Useless

1-After 5 years of existence, there has NEVER been a SINGLE virus on Mac OS X. ZERO. 2-If One day, someone finds a way to really create one, this anti-virus will be useless as it doesn't know the virus. You would have to update it, THEN try to clean your files etc. So OS X is MUCH more vulnerable than we think, hun? Cool, I'll make a deal with you, Norton: As soon as OS X viruses start appearing, I'll buy your product and create a clean boot disk to clean my ingected Mac. Since OS X is so vulnerable, it shouldn't be long until you see a lot of cash flowing in... [alert admin]

Can't update

That's because you didn't install the previous update. It's silly like that. Go to MS's website and manually dl all necessary previous updates one by one...

way too expensive

You don't understand what this application does. It transforms your Mac (laptop, preferably) into a field monitor. Final Cut has no such ability. $129 is very cheap compared to $2,000 or more for a real field monitor. I hope the programmer can support HDV soon.

Kind of pricey?

If I understand your needs, this is not for you. You'd be better off with Amadeus, Sound Studio etc. This application is a software equivalent of a DAT recorder, and then some! If you work in film, TV or similar and want to transform your PowerBook into a professional field recorder, this software is both awesome and cheap!

Awful, simply awful

avi is not a codec. .avi is a file structure format, just like .mov. .avi is fully supported in QuickTime since v4. Installing QuickTime 7 DOES NOT remove any 3rd party codecs you might have installed. Now, what codecs where you using that no longer work? If you're not sure which one is affected, just reinstall it (them) into your library/quicktime folder. Now, please, stop giving 1 star rating to applications you do not understand.

What about iMovie 5 HD

It's not the same thing. Both iMovie HD and Final Cut Express HD import HD by transcoding it to a low bitrate video file using a HIGHLY lossy codec called the Apple intermediary codec. This is done to insure simplicity and speed for low end user. The resulting image quality is usually horrific. Final Cut Pro 5 will be the first OS X application to NATIVELY support Long GOP-MPEG2 as used by the HDV format.…
