Google Notifier 1.10.2.580 (Mac OS X)

Elegant Solution

What an elegant and efficient solution to the problem of having to log into Gmail just to see if there are new messages. This is especially convenient if you don't wish to have your Gmail automatically forwarded to your mail application for a variety of reasons. I'm looking forward to a future version which will have two additional features: 1) monitor multiple Gmail addresses. 2) Customize the pop up notification to show just the sender's address and (with the aforementioned feature implemented) from which account the new mail has been detected. Well done! [OS X 10.4.11 on 1.33 GHz PowerBook (PowerPC) G4; 1 GB SDRAM.] [alert admin]

Senuti 0.50.2 (Mac OS X)

Am I the Last Person to Realize

Am I the last person to realize that "Senuti" is "iTunes" spelled in reverse? If I'm indeed the last one, that's okay. At least if finally got it! Very clever application name choice. [alert admin]

Graveyard 1.31 (Mac OS X)

Could be awesome . . .

. . . if the developer could either hack or tell us the way to make command-delete send a selected file to Graveyard. I've got nothing bad to say about the application itself, nor it's functionality and/or usefulness. I have Graveyard on my desktop, but I just can't seem to think of a way I'll ever use it. Rarely do I drag something to the trash. 99 times out of 100 it's command-delete. [alert admin]

Pando 2.0.2.2 (Mac OS X)

Works Fine

There seems to be many negative comments about Pando, and that's cool. Everybody's experience is different. I've found Pando to be stable, and does what it says it will do. It's a little bit on the slow side, but since I'm using the free version I have no complaints. Minus a star and a half for the annoying frequency of updates posted to VT. I'd rather have them make a forklift upgrade once a week or two rather than these tiny iterations. Unless the update corrects a severe problem with the software, I don't need to be notified of your work every day. Christmas Super Frog 1.8.8 (Mac OS X)

Needs a LOT of work

I hate to make negative comments about Freeware, but this is just bad. Poor graphics, even worse gameplay, and downright terrible sound effects. Even if you have five lives, if you get squished the game never respawns a new life. Gameplay aside, I caution you to NOT enable smart crash reporting. When you try to throw away this game (and you most likely will), the game will install a .bundle package which will prevent you from emptying your trash completely. You'll either have to restart your Macintosh or force empty the trash. [alert admin]

NovaMind Pro 4.1.6 (Mac OS X)

Get Back to Basics

Before using NovaMind, one should fully explore Noble Ape Simulator. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19612 *snicker* [alert admin]

GL Golf 2.11 (Mac OS X)

Horrible

Look, I'm the first person to applaud and support people who make games for the Mac. But I just can't get behind GL Golf. I'm sorry, but it's honest. It's been around for a long time, so clearly the author has put a lot of effort into it, but the game is horrible. My recommendation is to spend $10 more and buy Tiger Woods for you PS/2, PS/3 or Xbox. [alert admin]

Noble Ape Simulation 0.686 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Great Update

Having used Noble Ape for three years, my only minor complaint had been handling the intuition variables. It caused too much difficulty when implementing environmental stimuli changes. This update finally makes it a snap! I was going to say "intuitive," but that would have been confusing for some. [alert admin]

MLB Schedule 1.2 (Mac OS X)

Great Little Widget

Functional, informative, and not clogged with needless bells and whistles. One star was reserved for when/if an option is added to set the number of previous games and scheduled games. [alert admin]

Pontoon 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Good Start

I agree with my fellow VersionTrackers that this minimalistic blackjack application has tremendous potential. I can do without the fancy graphics, memory-hogging sounds, and multiple players. I just want to practice my blackjack skills. Without becoming bloatware, I'd like to see three additional features in future versions. 1. Number of decks. Let the player decide to have 2, 4, 6, or 8 decks in the shoe. 2. Surrender. Add a "surrender" option. 3. Multiple computer players. This might be a tall order to achieve while keeping with the minimalist theme of the application, but a full table of players greatly affects a player's betting strategy. If the count runs rich based on cards exposed, I increase my bets accordingly. Keep up the good work! [alert admin]

Full disclosure is good, but . . .

Kudos for admitting that you know the creator. Far too many reviewers are either the authors of shareware with alias accounts, or stooges to boost ratings. Negative points for giving the game five stars. That's simply poor judgement, unless you can justify that this game is simply the best Mac game you've every played. Your own negative commentary exposes the falsely inflated five star rating. Rate applications honestly. Doing so falsely only hurts the game…

Too much, too little, too late

I want to go drink a beer with Kelly. Never before have I laughed out loud while reading something posted on VersionTracker. No, wait ... I take that back. People's complaints about Noble Ape are pretty darn funny too. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19612

Why bother?

As I noted above, InstantShot has many more features and customizable preferences. My personal favorite is the ability to choose the number of seconds before a timed shot is taken. I also like the ability to choose the quality of the capture file.

I Purchase Shareware

I should have clarified in my above post that I am NOT a shareware pirate. There are lots of great shareware applications which I could have used forever and not purchased a license. However, I choose to support developers that write great shareware so that they can update the applications and create other software. Just a few examples of many shareware applications for which I've bought a license include GraphicConverter, iGlasses, and Synergy.

1.1 is better, but not quite there yet

Version 1.1 is a bit improved ... the widget found my network for about five seconds, then it disappeared from the list. Wireless Grapher and AirTrafficControl both show a maintained network connection of high quality. I thought that perhaps I wasn't setting the scan times to be rapid enough, but even changing the rate to once per second does not correct the disappearing network problem. I'm looking forward to version 1.2!

5 stars?! You've got to be joking.

Seriously. How can anybody rate this game with five stars? That means it's supposed to be one of the utmost top shareware games of all time for the Macintosh platform. If you REALLY believe this is worth five stars you're either a close friend of the developer or this is the only shareware game you've ever played. Please don't abuse the VersionTracker rating system.

The Mother of All Upgrades

Somebody eventually has to post something akin to this: "BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA" Until then, the joke's on all the people who read the reviews, download the software, and don't get the joke.
