MAMP 1.8 (Mac OS X)

Beware MAMP 1.8 doesn't support INNODB

After spending 1.5 hours trying to figure out why INNODB was not working I discovered (not documented on the main site or release notes (where are they???) but the blog): http://blog-en.mamp.info/2009/09/mamp-and-innodb-at-mysql.html "The MySQL Version 5.1 packaged in MAMP 1.8 does not contain the Storage-Engine InnoDB. We are actually working on the implementation of InnoDB. We soon will be releasing MAMP 1.8.1. This new version will fix the issue." As much as a huge fan of MAMP/MAMP PRO that I am (normally 5 stars) I wish that there had been a bit more QA (this release 1 star—boo!). I went back to version 1.72 for now. [alert admin]

Macromedia Dreamweaver 8.0.2 (Mac OS X)

File Synchronize Beyond Slow

Yikes! I just "upgraded" from DW MX 2004 to DW 8.0.2 and the synchronize function used just before uploading changed files takes a ***HUGE*** amount of time - it's horrendous! We are a website design/maintenance company and cannot use this version as is, it's a vast waste of time waiting for the sync to finish. Here's my info: Mac OS 10.4.6, DW 8.0.2, FTPing. The individual site settings and overall site preferences are exactly the same as they were in DW MX 2004. I did two comparisons of syncs: DW MX 2004 DW 8.0.2 site 1: 1:27 10:45 site 2: 3:11 12:25 I noticed the FTP log for DW 8.0.2 showed many many pairs of FTP commands as follows: MKD sitename/xyiznwsk followed by RMD sitrename/xyiznwsk The make directory and remove directory commands don't happen with DW MX 2004. Not sure if there's more going on than this that's causing the delay. I can't understand how Adobe could let this happen - is there no QA going on at all? We can't live with this problem, so until it's fixed we're going back to DW MX 2004. Too bad, I like many of the improvements in DW 8. How about it Adobe? Can we get a fix for this problem printo? You Politically Correct People...

...should get a life! Come on lighten up and laugh at yourselves. It's meant to be FUNNY - that's all - nothing more, nothing less. If you don't like it then quit wasting your time complaining and go put your hair shirt back on. Unless you'd RATHER just complain. Cheezzz!!! [alert admin]

IgLyric 0.8 (Mac OS X)

Very cool widget!

An excellent job linking the tunes to the words. Easy to use, installs itself, finds almost all the lyrics (even for the tunes that you didn't load into iTunes via CD & IMDB). Thanks for sharing your freebie! [alert admin]

FrenchTVNews 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Download works OK if you get it via an FTP program - not a browser.

Use the directory http://home.tele2.fr for the file transfer. Overall the capability is great - and - the price is right! Although the program's interface could be improved a lot the author should be commended for delivering a product that works. Where else can you see/hear French TV in the US except TV5 via satellite?

On occasion RealPlayer gives you an error "Requested file not found..." but that may be not possible to fix from a program since date-sensitive links come and go and obviously expire.

I'm rating this a 4 - it would be a 5 if not for the lack of a better GUI. I'm looking forward to further development and the next release! [alert admin]

showDate 0.2 (Mac OS X)

Finally! The date in the menubar!

Hurray! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I could never understand why Apple never included such a simple but useful facility in their date/time code. It works great for me, Suggestions for next release, allow the year to be optional (it takes upo valuable menubar space and we all know the year - hopefully anyway), and offer as an option the 3 charachter abbreviation for the month (Jan, Feb, etc.) instead of the numeric month. This little hack made my day...uh, er, date! [alert admin]

Font Reserve 3.1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Autoactivation of fonts under 103. Panther

I just upgraded to 10.3 Panther and updated Font Reserve to 3.1.3. Fonts not active used to get autoactivated when opening a Fireworks MX 2004 document with non-active fonts in 10.2 Jaguar. But not now — Fireworks claims the fonts are missing and FR doesn't auto activate them like under 10.2 Is anyone else having problems like this? [alert admin]

Advanced Web Ranking 2.2 (Mac OS X)

Looks like a cool product to me

Installed & ran OK the first time. Seems like a useful product for checking website standings & the user interface is logical and easy to use. The prices (especially the Pro version at $99 - yikes!) seem a little steep but I don't see any competing products with the equivalent functionality. I'll buy the standard version ($49) but all my dollars don't want to leave my pocket. [alert admin]

Why?

apple's date/time doesn't show the date - e.g. 5/3/04 - that's why this hack was written
