Renamer4Mac 3.10 (Mac OS X)
This app is one of the most stellar user interfaces I have ever seen. That's a short list. I am baffled as to why this is not an editor's pick. [alert admin]

Smart Scroll 2.8.7 (Mac OS X)
This clearly should be built in to the OS. We can hope. But in the meantime, we have this great fix for jumpy scrolling. I prefer different settings than the defaults. You can download my Smart Scroll prefs file here.
2.8.8 fixes a problem I was having in which the scrolling would become slow until I hit either PageUp or PageDown. [alert admin]

TubeTV 1.0 (Mac OS X)
What could be simpler. Open TubeTV, which is a web browser with the same guts as Safari. Paste in the URL of a page containing a flash movie. Click the flash movie to start playing it. Now the download button becomes active; click it. TubeTV downloads the flash video. TubeTV converts that to a movie file suitable for for iPhone. TubeTV opens the movie in iTunes. Now I check the box in iTunes that says I want it on my iPhone for bedtime watching and sync. Of course, you can choose a different conversion format and set other options. [alert admin]

screws with image aspect ratio
I added an image, and then looked at it in Preview mode. The aspect ratio was wrong. Nowhere can I find how to work around this bug. I presume there is a magic ratio of width to height that will work OK. [alert admin]

This is a product that (a) can damage storage, and (b) does disk I/O. Both of these criteria imply that it should be written in Java and not C, C++, or Objective-C. Why? Because Java makes it much harder for bugs like this to exist (a), and because Java is plenty fast enough for this kind of work (b). Java is what is known as a "safe" language because it eliminates whole…
