FlickrExport for Aperture 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
if you participate frequently in flickr! you'll find this plug-in indispensably useful. this useful plug-in helps make the task of managing uploads to flickr!very simple. it's well integrated with aperture's export features -- keywords, captions, export size and resolution, and watermarking. if you're a flickr! member who's on Mac OS X, then i think this product is worth the consideration. Apple Aperture 1.5.2 (Mac OS X)
watermark still rendering solid -- that is no transparency
this is a bummer. looks like the watermark that used to work is still broken on my g5. interestingly, the same watermark renders with transparency effect on my macbook. Hardware Overview: Machine Name: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 8 GB Bus Speed: 1.35 GHz Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1 [alert admin]

Microspot MacDraft PE 5.5.8 (Mac OS X)
useful for sorting out space and layout issues ![]()

we were moving into a new condo that is half the space we had, so many of our furniture pieces had to go, but we couldn't figure out which ones. we took measurements and sketched a layout of the condo, and then drew the layout with the measurements using macdraft pe. then using the dimensions of the furniture pieces, we created representing objects to scale and positioned the objects within the layout. as a result, we were able to sort out which furniture will fit comfortably without crowding the space. although, in our case, it won't be used frequently, macdraf pe saved us a lot of valuable time, and spared us much confusion and frustrations. i found the interface relatively simple to become familiar with, and i didn't find the need to refer to the manual for most basic functions to get started. Paparazzi! 0.4.1 (Mac OS X)
it can be relatively useful for some users, and it's freeware too...
i like the idea behind this software because i don't have to change any settings in Safari to produce the same result. for example, although i can do the same in Safari i'd need to turn on the option to print the images and the background. but i like to keep these options turned off by default. so i think this is where i'd find Paparazzi! relatively helpful. but not all pages load as displayed in a browser. for example, if you go to http://www.pdnonline.com, Paparazzi! displays a list of menu choices and then the rest of the page. Nikon Capture 4.4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
uneventful update -- everything seems to work properly ![]()

nikon capture does the raw conversion cleanly on my d2x and d70 images. i'm always satisfied with the conversion. i find nikon capture relatively usable when you're not under pressure to meet a deadline. speed is just o-k on my powerbook, but it still needs more improvement. i also have a dual processor g5, and since apple's new machines are mostly dual or quad processors, i think nikon should design nikon capture to utilize these multi-processor systems. if you're working on a few images, then nikon capture is o-k, but if you have many images to convert and edit, and you're on a deadline, then i'd recommend using something like Adobe Bridge and Camera Raw. StuffIt Expander 10.0 (Mac OS X)
stuffit expander 10 seems to be working fine on my system
stuffit expander 10 didn't seem to exhibit any of the problems pointed out by the other users. current configuration: G5 dual 2.7 Mac OS 10.4.2 Norton NAV, Epson 4180 and Espon 4800 drivers are the only third-party software running in the background. All others are Mac OS X default. Perhaps there may be some other causes? [alert admin]

greatly improved for my intuos 2 tablet ![]()

i'm pleased that the designers have replaced the stand-alone application with a control panel for the intuos 2 tablet. it's nicely integrated with the System Preferences. i find the new interface much easier to understand and navigate, and it's much less cluttered than the old driver for the intuos 2 tablets. i've not encountered any lag on my set up. in fact, the pen and tablet response is quite transparent. that is the response seems immediate such that i don't quite notice that i'm using an electronic drawing device. system set up: powerbook 17" 1.33 mhz 2 gig ram 10.4.1 [alert admin]

seems to work on tiger and with NYT's member's page
this version of opera seems to be running fine on my mac os x 10.4.1. pages load relatively quickly, and so far all the sites i visit seem to be behaving correctly in this opera. that also include nyt's member's page, which is also my default. [alert admin]

XLR8 MAChSpeed Control 3.4 (Mac OS X)
please provide a trial version. at least a one-day trial version.
the description of what this product is suppose to do sounds good, but without a trial version, users who are interested could never be sure if it'd work on their system until they've made the purchase to install the software. a trial version from the developer would be appreciated.
dump the humble opinions. frankly, why beat around the bushes? if the product is worth considering, then explain why; and if the product isn't worth considering, then do likewise, or why it should be taken off the market.

i have a macpro with 4 drives -- on set up as stripe and the other mirror. boot drive is stripe, mirror is the backup. the firmware installation went through without complications. perhaps it's something else other than what you're suspecting.

browsers are just different tools
you're kidding right? it's like saying a carpenter refuses to work on something because all he wants to use is a hammer even though he has the option of using other tools to reach a goal. so he postpones the task until it requires a hammer. how absurd!

what may be obvious to one user may not be obvious to another.
if other users are questioning the where-about and the how-to's of what seem to be trivial functions, then there may be a flaw in the user interface. an intelligent designer would investigate and refine the design to make it more human friendly. one of Apple's hallmarks is their ability to fine tune their products based on inputs from so-called "stupid users". if Apple designers had taken the "intelligent users" approach, i think the high quality…

Lesson learned: go with Firefox
i've the license for this product for over a year, and i've been using it since a year before i paid for the license. omni web is not the best on the market, but neither is firefox nor mozilla. every product has it's pros and cons. each product's features, or the lack of, work for some users and don't work other users at the same time. so there will always be some positive and negative comments…
