YAI 1.2.0 (Mac OS X)

Fantastic work

Just wanted to say thanks to John for creating such a vital tool in YAI. It's solved a big problem for me -- I'm happily using my Mac in the office even though it's a completely Windows network. I divert all my Exchange mail to a Google Apps Premium account, which I then download into Mail and my Blackberry (and for that matter my iPhone via IMAP). That works pretty well on the whole, except for calendar invitations -- until John produced YAI, I hadn't been able to parse Outlook invites automatically into iCal. Now it works fine (I'm using a private beta of 1.3.0 which works well with Leopard.) It's developers like John that create the small finishing touches on OS X that Apple forgets, which is what makes Mac such a great platform. Just wanted you to know your work is much appreciated! 1Passwd 2.4.2 (Mac OS X)

This is great!!

I'm loving 1Password -- after trying it out for a few hours, I didn't blink at the registration fee. It solved the problem for me that for some reason I periodically seemed to lose all my saved passwords in Firefox. It's also great to have all my passwords available across browsers too -- saves repetitive logging in to sites. The integration with the browser is surprisingly good too -- it puts a little "1P" button in the browser toolbar, no matter what browser you're using, and they added in 'basic authentication' support into the latest version which means if you get one of those popup dialogues caused by a webserver with .htaccess password protection, 1Passwd can fill the correct username/pass in there too. I have it setup so that Firefox no longer remembers passwords, and they all come from 1Passwd instead. That's SIGNIFICANTLY more secure than having Firefox fill them in, because they're stored on your hard disk in plain text... incredibly risky if you lost your laptop, for example (that's my constant fear). 1Passwd locks the keychain each time I sleep my machine, so that I just have to enter in a master password once each time I unsleep. (Firefox has similar functionality built in, but then you lose the benefit of having all your passwords available across multiple browsers.) Now "all" I want is a Windows version that I can use at work, plus secure internet synchronisation of the passwords ;-) Come on 1Passwd guys, pony up! ;-) [alert admin]

Picturesque 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Superb!!

This coming out on around the same day that Panic's Coda integrated web development IDE came out is a web developers' dream! I've always wanted to make nice images with reflections and rounded corners, but frankly, could never be bothered doing it in Photoshop. This will be handy for making my blog look much better than it does now. I only wish there was a Windows version available so I could use it at work too..! For version 2.0 of this, it would be unreal if the developer could add the following: - exposure adjustment (like iPhoto's adjust pane) - colour temperature adjustment (warm/cool and green/pink, also like iPhoto's adjust pane) - the ability to crop images using a simple marquee selector - make it possible to type in exact resizing values rather than having to use the slider. (being 1px or 2px out can make a big difference on the web.) [alert admin]

PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.0 (Mac OS X)

This is so buggy it shouldn't have been released

Wow, this is seriously buggy software. I got it so I could use my new Blackberry Pearl with my MacBook Pro, but it never seemed to make a connection with the Pearl -- as if it wasn't supported, even though it was. I've now gone back to my Blackberry 8707g, because I prefer it anyway, but PocketMac 4.0 won't connect to it because it has a password on the device. There IS a spot to put your password into the PocketMac SyncManager (and a note underneath saying to quit and restart the sync manager to save the password) but when I quit and restart the sync manager, the password is gone. Soooo frustrating. The worst thing is that PocketMac 3.13 worked reasonably well -- it wasn't perfect but it basically worked. PocketMac 4.0 DOESN'T, and it's annoying that all links to PocketMac 3.13 have disappeared -- it seems to be impossible to download now. :( [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 3.5.2.158 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Duplicate entries

I have four copies of Firefox listed in my updates list even though they all point to the same executable file. (And multiple copies of other programs too.) Very annoying. [alert admin]

Safari Bookmark Exchanger 0.7.1 (Mac OS X)

Needs to handle Safari feed: URLs better

It would be great if this could convert Safari's custom feed: URLs into the appropriate format for other browsers. In Firefox, for example, if it could turn them into Live Bookmarks that would be great (or at least replace the feed: with http:) [alert admin]

Apple AirPort Express 6.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Problems with firmware 6.2

I also got the Airport Express 6.2 update and found it caused problems on my network. I use a WPA network, and the 6.2 update only allows you to choose WPA2. I presume this standard is meant to be backward compatible with WPA, but in my case it didn't work - the updated Airport Express just kept flashing orange. I tried updating the other one as well (I have two) and it had exactly the same problem. Downgrading to 6.1.1 solved the problem on both. I use a Billion 7402G modem/router/access point. Hmm...

There are free options IF YOU LIVE IN THE US and some other countries. But in many countries SMSes are quite expensive, so the .10 price is cheap. Also, it's extremely convenient being able to use this nice widget to be able to SMS just about any mobile number worldwide without being constrained by which networks are included.

BluePhoneElite

$0.10 is cheaper than the local SMS rate in Australia, which is $A.25. And I also value the desktop widget 'form factor' - right there on my screen all the time whenever I need it. (Plus I don't have to go and find my phone if it's not near my computer.)

Not Needed on 15" PB Al 1.67

The Versiontracker notes specifically say Titanium Powerbooks... meaning Aluminium PowerBooks don't need it.
