FTP Commander 7.90 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Simple, fast, free... And it works!

Attention software developers: Why can't all of you write your code as cleanly as FTP Commander?! [alert admin]

iMpeg Converter 1.21 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Crashes when starting conversion

The program, besides having a funky non-resizeable interface, chokes when I hit the Start button. The file input is a 492MB .MOV file (generated with iMovie on System 9 Mac). The Start button flashes "Stop" for a fraction of a second; then it turns back to Start. Task Manager confirms no activity. [Win2k/Server/SP4 w/QT 6.51] Go back to the drawing board... [alert admin]

Ashampoo Movie Shrink & Burn 2 2.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Installation aborted on splash screen

Unable to install: "Installation Aborted! Internal Error" Why do developers spens so much time on their apps, only to have a lousy installer ruin their effort? [alert admin]

#1 Video Converter 3.4.7 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

OK for shareware, but...

Not multiprocessor aware (running dual PII/450 with Win2k/Server); Does not accept .MOV (iMovie) files; Trial version only converts the first half of the file [alert admin]

Microsoft Virtual PC 6.1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

URGENT: Still no G5 support!

Moderator: Please include a warning in the blurb that this update does not include G5 processor support.

From the Microsoft Virtual PC FAQ/Support Page (link opens new window):

We know Mac users are excited to take advantage of the speed of the new Power Mac G5 processor to run Virtual PC for Mac and PC programs. Microsoft is currently working on the next version of Virtual PC for Mac, which will run on the G5. Watch the Mactopia newsletter for updates.

ExtremeZ-IP 2.1.1 (Mac OS 9)

Works extremely well;…

and (unlike the competing MacServer IP) GroupLogic's tech support is world class, while Cyan's support is “dial-a-prayer.” If you've read this far, sign up for the Mac-NT Mailing List at: http://lyris.sunbelt-software.com/scripts/lyris.pl?enter=Mac-NT [alert admin]

Trillian 0.721 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Cannot connect into…

existing Yahoo groups unless invited - Including public chat rooms... And I tried this client because the Yahoo java chat applet doesn't run on my machine. Very disappointed. [alert admin]

MacNames 1.1f (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

You two guys…

have NO F**KING IDEA what you're talking about: You have to access and change the NTFS $AfpData metadata stream, without hosing the whole file system. In addition, the author (Patrick Pecatte) carefully watches the product and *immediately* offers fixes when needed. [alert admin]
