Perfect Diet Tracker 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Good but not Great

I have downloaded and tried a number of the diet/exercise applications for the Mac. I'm a long time user of Calorie King's Nutrition & Exercise Manager. This company is not very responsive and has done little with their application in years. They don't seem focused on Mac users. Their database for food and exercise is (to my shock) better than any of the new applications I tried. I also tried Diet Controller and Weightmania. Both seemed to complex for my simple tastes. The main problem with "Perfect" Diet Tracker is that their food and exercise databases are lame. For example, I grab breakfast at BurgerKing today, but PDT's database has only a handful of BK's menu offerings. I had to go to the BK website to enter the meal manually. I can see that I will only like PDT if I build my own databases. Hopefully, like other products I have tried, my custom databases will not get overwritten by a future database update. That caused me to dump one application years ago when many hours of my work was destroyed in seconds. I'm rating PDT a weak 4, but the others got only a 3, so I sent PDT's maker my money. I hope I will not be disappointed. I'm curious to see if they add a weight goal line to their weight chart. Almost every application has this. I'd also like total flexibility to trash several of the screens I don't use and never will. [alert admin]

Perfect Diet Tracker 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Immediate Response

Software company responded immediately. Now I am trying to determine how I missed this feature. It seems obvious now, but yesterday I simply could not locate it. FYI, I am testing the five highest rated diet and exercise programs for the Mac. So far, this one seems best, but I have a lot of testing to do. [alert admin]

Perfect Diet Tracker 3.0 (Mac OS X)

Started to like, but then...

I've been trying different diet and exercise software programs. This one seemed very promising, but I went to add my lunch meal and could not get the program off the breakfast list. Their "help" offered no help and their website (at least the one I went to) did not mention the product. This program has promise, but a college educated Mac expert (OK, semi expert) should not waste 30 minutes trying to add lunch to the daily listing. Trial aborted until someone from the company tells me how to move forward. [alert admin]

DietController 1.21 (Mac OS X)

This is NOT a 5 Star Application

I'm a new user to this product, in search of a replacement for CalorieKing, which beyond database updates, is devoid of Mac platform development. So what's not 5-star about DietController: 1 - The food database is clunky at best. I lunched at KFC one day and could find no reference to this popular store. Well, it is listed as Kentucky Fried Chicken. Who uses that name and what does that say about the "quality" of the food database? I found food entry a pain so far. If I buy this software, I'd likely have to enter all of my foods manually. No entry for Dannon yogurt? Where did they get this database? 2 - The exercise database is equally clunky. 3 - The price is too high. 4 - The software tries too hard to be all things to all people. The screen becomes a data blur, which can be improved somewhat as you customize the options. That said, the software company seems to respond to customer requests and the software has most of the features I have suggested to CalorieKing for years. I'm not ready to buy yet. The price plus the hassle of database creation has me turned off for now. [alert admin]

TechTool Pro 5.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Very Useful Software

I don't know what the moron just below me is talking about, but TTP is a very useful utility and has fixed a number of serious system problems for this long-time user. Who the hell uses DiskWarrior anymore? Now that was a useless utility, after the few couple of years. TTP is exactly as the name says: it is a collection of tools that will help you keep your Mac running better. TTP is well worth the money. No I don't work for them. [alert admin]

CleanApp 3.0.4 (Mac OS X)

Change of Heart...

Hmmm... I just used this software for the first time is awhile and it seemed to work flawlessly. No unneeded intervention. Easy. Now they need to sell it to Apple. [alert admin]

CleanApp 3.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Improvements?

The original or earlier versions of this software seemed to work so seamlessly. You just dragged a damn file over and the rest seemed to happen with little or no intervention. Perhaps they were not working properly -- how the heck would one know? Now a screen comes up and makes you get more involved... Much like Microsoft, they seem to have made the product more of a pain, trying to justify paying for it. Apple needs to add some sort of app delete utility as a standard offering. [alert admin]

VersionTracker Pro 4.5.1 (Mac OS X)

Still Gives False Reports...

I have used this software since the first release. I have sent this company hundreds of dollars. Still, after all this time, the software has NEVER ONCE given me a totally accurate reporting of my software revision levels. Frankly, that is pathetic. But then, that makes me the idiot for continuing to pay them for a utility that has never worked 100% right. CAVEAT EMPTOR [alert admin]

CalorieKing Nutrition and Exercise Manager 4.1 (Mac OS X)

Why No Updates?

I use this product daily, but am disappointed at the lack of updates (over two years). Once they worked the bugs out (not all are gone as trying to start certain Apple programs brings this app to the forefront), it seems they stopped all development. I have submitted multiple upgrade requests and they have never responded, except with some sort of stock response. I'm now looking for something else. [alert admin]

Apple iTunes 8.0 (Mac OS X)

NOTHIN BUT PROBLEMS!!! WARNING!!!

I have an older Mac with 10.5.4 OSX. I've never had a problem with iTunes or my iPod. Now I have nothing but problems. My iPod would not synch and my iTunes locks up all the time. I even tried reformatting my iPod and doing a restore. That fixed nothing. Now I have an iPod with only a few songs and iTunes that eventually locks-up every time I use it. Way to go Apple. Maybe I'f you quit whining like a baby...

There are hundreds of thousands of happy users of this product. The company is small and isn't perfect. Just quit whining and they'll get to you. Maybe the guy is yanking your chain to see how many more postings you'll make on here.

I wish Intuit would get it together...

I got the same error, because I have Quicken 2007. Are you sure you are not the problem?

"Free" Software

You get what you pay for. TCC has always worked for me. Frankly, I prefer to pay for software. You usually get a better product from a motivated person. As for the *censored*in' about supporting older versions -- why don't you keep up with the rest of the world ya cheap twit? Pay up, keep up, or stop crying while we all move onwards.
