MacJournal 5.0.4 (Mac OS X)
On a PPC running 10.4.11. MacJournal is a good idea but the software is poorly tested. The releases have more bugs than features. I regret ever paying for the upgrade from version 4 to version 5. [alert admin]

In terminal type man -t [command] > manual.ps then open the man file with Preview and you have a nice man page in the classic man page format. Don't know why you need a tool to convert man pages to postscript when it's built into the man command. [alert admin]

VueScan 7.5.6 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
professional photographer and previously I spent 10 years as a software developer for the Macintosh. I find VueScan indespensible. Almost no scanners today are shipping with OS X support, but VueScan can drive almost all of them. Once you understand it, you can get fantastic scans. Don't knock it just because you are too lazy to figure out how it works. Ed also provides great support. He answers questions personally and considers all reasonable feature suggestions for future versions of the software. He keeps pumping out new versions and the features he adds are usually very nice. Yes, the WxWindows interface is clunky, but without it, VueScan would probably only be available for Windows. That's the price you pay to develop a GUI application across multiple platforms with a single code base. It's called a comprimise, and it's a reasonable one. I believe Ed is primarily a Windows developer and it's dowright civilized that he makes the effort to support VueScan on the Mac. Even as a Windows developer, he's on the cutting edge of the Mac world providing a great OS X scanner driver while most of the scanner makers don't seem to want to bother. Would all the complainers prefer that he got discouraged from supporting the Mac because of all the whining and pulled the only OS X solution for most scanners out there? [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 5.1.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
install problem is caused by the "Toast Video CD Support" extension. When Classic is running, this file is open, and the installer has a permission error trying to delete it. The problem seems to be fixed by shutting down Classic before you try the install. [alert admin]
