Bee Docs Timeline - 3D Edition 2.1.2 (Mac OS X)

Absolutely fabulous....

I've had this for less than two days now, and I've already delivered one stunning presentation with Timeline 3D incorporated into a Keynote presentation. Although the program offers *direct* output to Keynote (in HD format!), I needed to break the animation up into two parts, and exported it as a QT move that I then cut in half, then used each of these movies within Keynote. As a QT movie, you keep the ability (with your Apple Remote) to move forward along the timeline and pause/play when needed. Very Cool. The interface couldn't be simpler. The end-product is gorgeous (you'd really have to work at it to make an unattractive timeline with this - if it's even possible). The developer (a one-man show) is quick to respond to inquiries, and keeps a helpful blog running alongside the Bee Documents website. Definitely give this one a try - I gambled on the $65 3D version, and I consider it money very well spent. [alert admin]

MacStumbler 0.75b (Mac OS X)

Intel version? Please?

MacStumbler continues to have one feature not matched by iStumbler - voice notification! The feature set is also somewhat more developed, still, than iStumbler. My new MacBook sure would like to have an Intel version.... M [alert admin]

Macaroni 2.0.5 (Mac OS X)

This power user says: Indispensible

I'm an OS X adoptee since day 1 of OS X 10.0... and Macaroni filled a huge gap that remains - perplexingly - unaddressed by Apple. That it may interfere with tweaks that some users have done to their systems is, as stated, irrelevant to the vast majority of users. And those who may be affected should know enough to either not use this product or adjust their tweaks accordingly. Macaroni is the perfect "set it and forget it" system utility. If you are helping grandma, your cousin, or a stranger set up their Mac, this is the one most important piece of software that you should download, REGISTER, and install for them. Kudos to the developer for a very nice piece of work. M. [alert admin]

OSXvnc 1.31 (Mac OS X)

Freakin' Awesome!

(same review, with minor editing, provided for Chicken of the VNC) There cant' be a simpler, easier-to-install, more idiot-proof program out there. In tandem with Chicken of the VNC, this little app has solved a HUGE problem for us in accessing our office Mac from home. Email was our only need... now we have full remote access to the system. Amazing! Apologies for the VNC-newbie blustering, but we're just REALLY PLEASED to have found this! Speed is also not fabulous, but we're willing to blame that on the crappily implemented university LAN where the host is located (I mean, how much more optimized can a program of only a few hundred kilobytes get, anyway?) Email was our only need... now we have full remote access to the system. Amazing! Apologies for the VNC-newbie blustering, but we're just REALLY PLEASED to have found this! The only issues we've had so far: the default fullscreen key-combo works on our iBook G3 (10.2.8) but not on the iMac G4 (10.3). To get out of fullscreen mode, we have to force-quit. Speed is also not fabulous, but we're willing to blame that on the crappily implemented university LAN where the host is located (I mean, how much more optimized can a program of only a few hundred kilobytes get, anyway?) PhotoPage 1.5 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

This is a…

fabulous program, especially for freeware! My only issue is the HTML code it generates - the tags do not nest properly (note that I'm using 1.5b1, this may be fixed in 1.5?). So although I *could* put up a gallery page directly from this application, I usually spend a fair amount of time re-nesting the links so my BBEdit html syntax checker won't freak out. Still, a great program! [alert admin]
