VLC media player 0.8.0 (Mac OS X)
I LOVE this app. It really is the best AVI player out there and even reads some of the Windows Media files even WMP fails to read. The recent updates really improved the GUI. It's one of the richest and most customizable media players out there!! Best of all.... it' free! [alert admin]

Unison 1.0.2a (Mac OS X)
All I managed to do in this app is filter out posters. The application does not have any decent filtering option to tag threads or color messages according to selected criteria. It might be a nice app for binaries, but it is useless to me for usenet :-\ A graphical representation of the threads like MacSoup or HogWasher would be nice too :-| [alert admin]

Hogwasher 4.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
Well this release seems a lot better than the previous versions of Hogwasher I tested. Version 4 finally has all the features I needed for both Mail and News and I decided to make the move from MacSoup. Really a great app :-)) [alert admin]

Despite the fact VT mentions that the app costs $149, the application seems to be freeware now... [alert admin]

Also, the UI seems like a pre-Cocoa UI that has not really been updated for X I don't get it... The app behaves just like a plain regular MacOS X app. It uses sheets and has a MacOS X customizable toolbar. You can even use a "metal" interface if you want... Are you sure you used version 3.7 ?? You also mentioned crashes with the conduit. I can at least tell you the conduit is behaving…

I've posted a comment because I've had the opportunity to use the app for a very long time and I wanted to share what I thought about the app. I don't usually comment on the other applications I beta-test. I meant every single word I posted and I wasn't asked to comment on the app.

You get the link to the MacOS X version once you\\\'ve applied for a licence. The links on the site are for archives of old (outdated) versions.

The application is only available to licenced users... but the licence is free for academic institutions. I decided to use WU BLAST on my Mac a while ago and I don't regret it. This implementation of BLAST is really fast and well optimized for the PPC processors (and now the G5).
