Firefox 3.0.10 (Mac OS X)

I loved to use Firefox as a small and fast browser, simply good!
But Firefox 3 is unusable on an iMac G5 2,1 GHz, because it's the slowest Firefox, even the slowest software in general, that I know.
FF 2 was still O.K., but version 3 is developed sloppily, what you can see at some small facts:
- The magnifying icons are still broken (white border, came with version 3).
- Since version 3.0.5 and with this 3.0.10, too (!) the user agent is
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.5, Ant.com Toolbar 1.1
3.0.5? Ant.com Toolbar? :-/
- Hovering bookmarks with the cursor is the slowest procedure you can imagine on any computer.
- I had sent many remarks, questions and wishes to the Mozilla developers (http://hendrix.mozilla.org/). Nothing (!) happened, not a sinlge word was answered, not a single bug (e. g. those mentioned above) was fixed.
Mozilla, *KMA*!
Add-ons are a great and the only reason to use FF. Look at Safari 4 Beta: It is really fast, stable, and reders websites properly! Firefox is about to turn out to be a big botch! I can't recommend it anymore.

Firefox 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

I have to agree to the latest reviews. Version 3 isn’t bad in general, and I’ve been waiting hopefully for improvements in coming updates (http://www.versiontracker.com/php/feedback/article.php?story=20080626050651629), but: It is still really very slow. Rendering webpages is OK mostly, but for example »flying« over bookmarks in created folders within the bookmarks toolbar feels completely terrible. I can’t recover any improvement. My reviews, wishes, tips and everything else I sent to the mozilla foundation are neither answered nor realized. None of the »no big problems« in my review mentioned above have been solved. In general, Firefox is still my favorite browser, but if the development keeps going this way … :-( [alert admin]

Firefox 3.0 (Mac OS X)
No big problems, but not totally final yet … ![]()

There are no big problems with Firefox 3.0 so far, but it should be installed within a new profile! To create an manage new profiles, you have to activate the profile manager by entering the following in the application »Terminal«: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -ProfileManager Now, the profile manager starts while Firefox starts up. Add-Ons and themes have to be re-installed, and bookmarks can be imported within the bookmark manager. So, I got a solid working browser, that I use many hours a day and crashed only twice. But there are some (more or less important) problems: – The installation mentioned above should work as a standard installation and the user must informed about that while the installation. Otherwise the problems while installing into an existing profile should be fixed as soon as possible. – The cursor for zooming in and out images does not appear properly since the alpha channel in these TIFFs are some pixels too big. You can fix this by correcting the following images e. g. in Photoshop and then saving them in Preview.app with using the PackBits compression: Firefox.app › Contents › MacOS › res › cursors › zoomIn.tiff (zoomOut.tiff) Be carful and try this with a backup fo Firefox, first! Damaged images will cause crashing Firefox! – The bookmarks and cookies are no longer stored in HTML files but in SQLITE databases. Though bookmarks can be exported and imported as HTML files, my opinion is that the HTML files for both bookmarks and cookies was the better and easier way to manage them manually. – The extension »PrefBar 4.1.1« causes an application crash when set to appear in the Firefox menu in its preferences. – The behavior takes getting used to. Perhaps it should be switchable in an easy way. Now, you can only try to manage it in the about:config ( then type »browser.urlbar.*«.) – Firefox 3 is said to render webpages faster than previous versions. I can't watch this so far. In summary: Firefox 3.0 is basically good, but it might, should – and I hope it will – be improved soon. [alert admin]

I agree to the excellent ratings! I have used many ftp clients and I'm almost completely satisfied with the application. My feature request will be a bookmarks window that will be part of the main window or docked to it. As the name implies the support of that company is yummy, too! Keep it up! :-) [alert admin]

Firefox 2.0.0.9 (Mac OS X)
Firefox 2.0.0.9 works as fine as former versions 2.0.0.x did. Installation is easy: Just replace the package in the application folder, that's it. Plug-Ins, e. g. PrefBar, Web Developer, and styles, here GrApple (Eos), are working fine, too. It's still my favorite web browser! [alert admin]

CleanArchiver 2.3.1 (Mac OS X)
*Review for Version 2.4a4*
Compared to StuffIt Standard, CleanArchiver works faster and the file sizes are smaller. Version 2.4a4 works fine and I hope that the development will be continued!

Sorry for these multiple comments, but this comment function <b>DOES NOT WORK</b>! I post my comment, the site does not load for minutes, and finally an error occurs. So, I post my comment, again. Meantime, I load the Firefox page, expecting to see my comment. But, no, nothing there! Then, after a couple of reloads: Bang! Four comments! :-/ Versiontracker, please fix it or deactivate it!
