Bubblegym 0.7.0 (Mac OS X)

Very Poor Demo

It seems to work okay, but the demo only lets you play for about 5 seconds, which makes it a waste of bandwidth to download. [alert admin]

Artack 1.01 (Mac OS X)

Nice little shooter

Good fun this. Genuine retro action. The graphics are well done & original. Nice soundtrack and effects. Interesting and varied level design. I only wish I could redefine the keys. Trying to use the cursor keys on the edge of my iBook keyboard is very uncomfortable. Most games seem to use this as a default, but it leaves you with nowhere to rest your hand. It's always the first thing I change in any game where I can. [alert admin]

Guest PC 1.9 (Mac OS X)

A worthy purchase.

After buying the disaster that is WinTel, I gave this a try. It is quite reasonably priced, and works okay with DOS or Win98 on a G4 PPC. Whilst performance and features are nothing spectacular it does indeed work pretty well. I could not get it to run Windows NT, and I didn't even want to try XP, but there are a lot of current programs that will still run on Win98. This is a worthy effort and as long as your expectations are reasonable, this is a pratcial way of running those few programs that you absolutly need windows for. I recently got Virtual PC with MS Office 2004, since it was on a special and I basically got Virtual PC free. I can say that XP Pro on VPC is about equivalent to Win98 on GuestPC. So Virtual PC performs better and has some useful options, but is more expensive. If you want a balance between price and performance and can live with Win98 (and indeed have a copy you can use), and are willing to live with the basic feature set, I can recommend GuestPC. If you have a little extra cash, Virtual PC is definetly worth the extra, with features such as state saving and pausing which means you can have a windows session ready to go anytime without tying down your CPU. (My iBook is unusable for anything else whilst using GuestPC, whereas I can have VPC running in the background without things grinding to a halt.) Ultimatly Guest PC is a stable, resonably priced program that does what it says on the tin (and not much else). Even though I have now moved on, I don't regret the purchase, it served it's purpose for me. [alert admin]

WinTel 2.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Ripoff!

Well I paid for this ripoff. I was so desparate for a PC emulator I was willing to try anything, even at the risk of throwing money away, which it turns out I did. This is basically the Bochs PC emulator with a little custom wrapping, if you want to see how this will perform, you can get Bochs for free. If you want to run Dos programs, DosBOX often does the job and is also free. I also have GuestPC, which is quite reasonably priced, and works okay with DOS or Win95 on a G4 PPC. This is a proper application developed from the ground up, and whilst performance and features are nothing spectacular, it does indeed work pretty well. I could not get it to run Windows NT, and I didn't even want to try XP, but there are a lot of current programs that will still run on Win98. This is a worthy effort from a small developer. I recently got Virtual PC with MS Office 2004, since it was on a special and I basically got Virtual PC free. I was pleasently surpriesed that XP Pro runs fine, not lightening fast but definetly usable. Performance with XP Pro in VPC is about equivalent to Win98 on GuestPC. So there are at least 4 alternatives to buying this program. If you want a balance between price and performance and can live with Win98 (and indeed have a copy you can use), and are willing to lose some features, I can recommend GuestPC. If you have a little extra cash, Virtual PC is definetly worth the extra, with features such as state saving and pausing which means you can have a windows session ready to go anytime without tying down your CPU. But stay away from this software and this company [alert admin]

A worthy purchase.

I installed NT from an OEM disk, not sure of the service pack level. It installed okay, but was unusable due to the mouse going berserk. I managed to get SP6 installed okay, but that's as far as I got. I'm glad it worked for you. Maybe it's better to use an older version without service packs.
