DxO Optics Pro 5.3.3 (Mac OS X)
Simply outstanding RAW conversion and image correction for supported body/lens combinations. This has become the essential first step in my workflow. Works well out of the box, but beyond that the learning curve is a bit steep due to the somewhat clunky UI, and the very non-Mac like file system navigation and other oddities. Excellent support from the developer. [alert admin]

Jott for iPhone 1.03 (iPhone)
This is the first note/reminder tool that I've actually used for more than a few days. You talk, a few minutes later your words are transcribed and appear in a list/folder of your choice. Can be used without the iphone app by calling a tollfree # and following the prompts, but it's the iphone app that makes this truly usable. Could benefit from some minor UI tweaking (took me a few tries to figure out how to direct a dictated note to a specific category), but otherwise it's been flawless for me. If you find yourself scribbling or forgetting notes, todo items, reminders, random ideas, etc. give it a try. I have no idea how they do this for free. Accuracy is much too good for speech recognition, so there must be a small army of people transcribing. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Becoming a usable product with this update. Still takes FOREVER to launch the fist time after rebooting, subsequent launches are much faster. Overall responsiveness is improved as noted by others. It's evolved to the point that it would be suitable as an initial release. [alert admin]

The Missing Sync for BlackBerry 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
But I've been able to transfer GroupWise calendar info to iCal and my iPhone, (neither supported by GroupWise or my employer) via a BlackBerry which gets data from a BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Why bother if I already have a BlackBerry? Get an iPhone and you'll find out... Instructions for doing this are in the Mark/Space knowledgebase, but fragmented and hard to find. Basically, 1. create a new calendar in iCal, 2. tell MissingSync that it's the one you want to use, 3. disable wireless synchronization for the blackberry calendar, connect via USB and synchronize. 4. Disconnect and re-enable the blackberry's wireless sync. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as often as needed to keep iCal up to date. Sounds like a pain but it's pretty simple. The only catch is that some recurring GroupWise events transfer erratically. This is due to the ridiculous way GroupWise creates recurring events. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.1.0 (Mac OS X)
Update or not (updated without issues) this thing is just intolerably slow on my MBP 2.4Ghz with 4 MB. The first launch for any of these apps takes at least 1 min. Subsequent launches are faster but hardly speedy. Powerpoint takes forever to open presentations, then more time to actually render the slides. This might be tolerable if the new features were compelling, but for routine work-related tasks I've found nothing that sets this apart from Office 2004, except that it's painfully slower. I've tried all the suggestions for speeding things up, both system-related and Office preference related. Nothing really helps. For the first time in at least a decade, I've started checking out alternatives including Nisus, Open/Neo Office, Pages, etc. [alert admin]

Do Something When 1.1 (Mac OS X)
After using 1.02 without difficulty, I was unable to get 1.1 to run under Tiger (10.4.2). After several emails back and forth with the developer, we finally got it working. His replies were almost instantaneous. If anyone has a similar problem, try trashing your old rules (Users/username/library/preferences/com.azarhi.DoSomethingWhen.plist. (You'll have to manually re-enter your rules after you do this, so you might want to writhe them down first.) [alert admin]

Drive Genius 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)
Looks tempting, but I already own TTP4 and SpeedTools Utilities and I'm wondering if this offers any real advantages. The website lists comparisons with TTP4, but I'm not really interested in repartitioning volumes (not $99 interested, anyway). Can anyone comment on features, reliability vs SpeedTools? [alert admin]

Site U.P. 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Nice idea, but I flipped it over (using the "i" button) and can't find any way to flip it back. Has anyone figured this out? [alert admin]

SpeedTools Utilities 2.2 (Mac OS X)
After reading the comments here, I thought long and hard before attempting to purchase and download from the Intech site. I'm happy to report that there were absolutely no issues with purchase, download or installation. Works as advertised, and the HI Cap driver allowed me to install a new 300GB Maxtor in a Digital Audio G4 with ease. My only complaint is that the guide for the S.M.A.R.T. component is missing. Haven't contacted tech support yet, so I can't comment on issues of responsiveness. [alert admin]

Deja Vu 3.0.2 (Mac OS X)
I've been using v3.0.2 to make daily backups of multiple drives, each to a separete folder on a big, external firewire drive. Deja Vu has performed flawlessly for me on a G4 running 10.3.4. Does everything that Retrospect used to do for me (except compression), without the headaches. [alert admin]
