SonicMood 4.8.6.2 (Mac OS X)

An excellent value

You can adjust all kinds of levels to the music or effect files, or just select one of the many presets available. The developer responds quickly and the recent upgrades added more functionality and usability elements. This is mood music/background sound that is very effective in helping concentration or in relaxing. Highly recommended. [alert admin]

Synk 5.1.3 (Mac OS X)

Excellent and consistent software with support

I've used Synk for a couple of years now and the developer has been excellent about staying on top of all the iterations of OSX. I do backups to an internal drive and they have performed flawlessly as startups since the developer added that capability. I find the interface uncluttered and the forum on his website is a great place to get more tips and seek advice should you need it. Well worth the asking price. [alert admin]

Bookends 8.1.1 (Mac OS X)

A recommendation

I have used Bookends for a number of years now, watching it grow, improve and enhance. My contacts with the developer have been excellent; Jon is on top of the feedback he gets. Once I was having trouble getting started creating my own database filter to work at my university (this was before those filters were enhanced and developed more through Bookends). With just a few questions to Jon, within a day or so, he took the time and effort to send me a filter that worked really well. The ability to import citations so easily is a big reason I left EndNote which I thought was sluggish, confusing and not responsive to user feedback. The newest versions of Bookends have an excellent GUI in my opinioon. I use Bookends with Nisus Express and found them to work very well (Nisus is another Mac developer I've been very impressed with). This is a program that can be a wonderful addition to the needs of academics and scholars. [alert admin]

CopyPaste + yType 2.5.4 (Mac OS X)

Excellent product

I have been using CP and CP+yType for quite a while now. The programmers have done a terrific job in making it easy to configure and use. The ability to access clipboards quickly is something that, until you've tried it, you don't know how valuable it is. I fell in love with the floating palettes that open as your cursor glides over them or when you press a key combo. And I've found yType a logical and useful add-on to the basic program. Occasionally I've found I had questions and the response has been fast and friendly. If you are looking for a clipboard utility, this is the first one you should try. [alert admin]

Bookends X 7.7 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Superb new version

I wrote to Jon just about six weeks or so ago asking about the possibility of integrating with Mellel. He immediately responded with a "just wait a bit...we're working on this." I also wrote to Mellel about it with my enthusiastic vote for that new wrinkle (see my review under Mellel). This is a wonderful example of excellent Mac software that integrates with another example of committed development to the platform. Bookends is fast and easy to navigate. I have a Filter that culls the data from the database at my university's library catalog and dumps into my Bookends. So easily done. I once used EndNote but got tired of their ignorance of the Mac platform. Jon responds very quickly to questions and suggestions. If you need a bibliography program this one is absolutely worth investigating and using. [alert admin]

Mellel 1.6.7 (Mac OS X)

Mellel gets even better

I am delighted with Mellel as it fits my needs (research, teaching, academic writing) so well. The developer has been extremely responsive to questions and input for suggested improvements. For example, about 6 weeks ago I wrote to both Mellel and Bookends developers and asked about the integration of the two. Redle immediately wrote back and said that it was in development and now here it is! Excellent addition of the Citations dialogue. I love the integration of two-byte language capability and the ease with which you can modify character/paragraph styles. I used to use Nisus Classic, but this app for OSX is excellent. This is a classic example of a Mac developer with a vision and the drive to improve that we all wish for in every application. The price is way more than reasonable. I'm obviously a devoted user and suggest you try this software. [alert admin]

NoteTaker 2003 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)

An excellent update responds to user feedback

NoteTaker 1.5.1 is not slow on either my Pismo or DP 800 so I don't understand what others may be experiencing on their setups. I haven't had to readjust settings (what does this refer to?) and the new additions to the program have enhanced it so much in my opinion. I keep separate notebooks for lots of subjects as well as a standard, always running "keep notes, to dos" for daily work. They have improved the documentation and on their web site there are now videos of how to set up and do things, with more to come. The ability to take web page notes of text, graphics, links and so forth through the Services menu has allowed me to totally replace my Sticky Brain that I used for so long. Contextual menus also work great in my experience in Note Taker. I also agree that DT is really slightly different in purpose, though I understand many use it in conjunction with NoteTaker. I would give NT five stars myself. [alert admin]

Amadeus II 3.5.4 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I just purchased…

Amadeus. I had been trying to use DeckDV (came with my FCP), but found the interface way too much for my needs (beginner wanting to go intermediate audio user). The function that lets you save and export the marked selections is a wonderful time saver for extracting individual songs out of recordings of vinyl LPs. I also got a nice tip from the developer about how to help reduce/eliminate hum that had creeped into a couple of my recordings. I've found the developer very quick to respond to my beginner's questions. This is such a fine piece of software and for many people it would be exactly what they need. [alert admin]

Well, I just can't agree

Based on my work with 1.5.1 I would agree with this objection to the original reviewer. NoteTaker is not slow on either my Pismo or DP 800. I haven't had to readjust settings (what does this refer to?) and the new additions to the program have enhanced it so much.
