KisMAC r278 (Mac OS X)

GUI suggestion

I spent about five minutes clicking on the doohickey next to the words "Start Scan", examining preferences, going through other menus, clicking the other buttons on the interface, before I discovered (by an accidental mouse-over) that the words "Start Scan" themselves were the "button" to start scanning. Recommend you come up with a way to communicate this better visually. [alert admin]

BwanaDik 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Indispensable

Great to have it back for Leopard! Thanks. I know you're not adding features, but the ability to write an outage log would give me extra leverage when I'm trying to convince Comcast they have spotty service. [alert admin]

Bad interface

Took me 10 minutes to figure out how to do pitch/tempo change (have to click the button marked "off" first ;-) Symmetrically opposite the Left-Right channel volume meters are two sliders, marked with a single "volume" icon. No, they don't adjust the volume of the Left and Right channels, respectively; the top is volume (and which way is louder?) and the bottom is... oh: balance. MachineHead font is really just ugly, imho. Why rotary controls? Didn't they die with iTunes version 1 ? I really like the functionality, and I hope this becomes a lower-priced alternative to ASD (speaking of bad interfaces). But I wish audio apps would stop insisting on looking like audio hardware, at least in the interface elements. [alert admin]

Vintage Radio Shows 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Additional info

I thought this might be a tuner for some of the free old-time radio streams listed under iTunes' Radio>Talk/Spoken Word category. It's not: it's a front end for a $6.95/month service from VintageRadioShows.com. Check there for additional information. [alert admin]

gTuner 1.0.5 (Mac OS X)

Basically random

Tried tuning an acoustic guitar, using iSight mic, and both Auto and Manual modes. It couldn't give a consistent or stable reading on any of the strings. I couldn't really even tell if I was *near* an E - indicator was all over the map. The full screen display is quite nice-looking! No points, though, since the functionality isn't there. HexEdit 1.92b (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Confusing numbering: 1.92 (3-26-05) vs. 1.92b (4-22-05)

  • Surprisingly, 1.92 is earlier than 1.92b. The 'b' suffix normally indicates a beta release.
  • In 10.4.2, using 1.92b, I encountered a hex pasting bug that I assume is what was fixed in 1.92. Downgrading from 1.92b to 1.92 fixes that bug, and works fine in Tiger.
So - what really is the latest release? [alert admin]

FruitMenu 3.4.2 (Mac OS X)

Snappy for me

The only time I noticed slowdowns was when 3.4 came out and my Apple Menu became slow. That was irritating. I must have missed 3.4.1, which fixed it, but I'm glad to find everything up to snap in 3.4.2. Chap PB-G4/867MHz/768MB/10.4.2 [alert admin]

Dent du Midi 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Tiger-compatible?

Tiger 10.4.1 / GB 1.1.0. Tried dragging the .mid files onto an emptied GB window, per instructions, but they "flew back". (also tried a single file.) This is the first time I've used DdM; is there a Tiger compatibility problem? [alert admin]

Capslock to Control 1.8 (Mac OS X)

10.3.9 installs AppleADBKeyboard.kext?

After applying 10.3.9 my caps lock reverted to being a caps lock. I looked in /System/Library/Extensions and AppleADBKeyboard.kext had been replaced. I deleted AppleADBKeyboard.kext.orig and reran the installer, rebooted, and I'm back up with capslock=control, so no (apparent) harm done. Is this cool? [alert admin]

Skype 1.0.0.24 (Mac OS X)

Password corrupted problem still here

As usual, installed the latest (.24), fired it up, and got the Error! Password corrupted! message. [alert admin]
