Q [kju:] 0.8.1a35 (Mac OS X)

never finishes installing

I have several times tried to run the installation of Windows, so I can use Q, but the best I can do is get within "24 minutes" of completing the installation, of Windows though I have waited for hours, even days, while Q does something according to the activity monitor. It just never finishes. Never gets to the "finalizing installation". I sure would like suggestions as to what to do differently, if anything. I have an intel MacBook pro, OS 10.4.9. [alert admin]

Chicken of the VNC 2.0b4 (Mac OS X)

cannot get this to run on mac pb g4 OS10.3.9

This works just fine, and is extremely useful, on my intel MacBook pro, OS 10.4.9, but I cannot get it to run on my mac pb g4 under OS 10.3.9. It starts as far as the window to enter where to connect, and then it suddenly vanishes. I would appreciate suggestions as to how to fix this. [alert admin]

PDF Equation 0.7 (Mac OS X)

would be nice if it would work

I guess this would be a very nice app if it would work. But when I try to use it I am asked to give the path to pdflatex. I cannot find pdflatex on CTAN so I cannot download it. I do have some TeX compilers and some Tex installations, and they include pdftex.def, but this is apparently not what is wanted. I sure wonder how anybody uses this. [alert admin]

LaTeX Equation Editor 1.3 (Mac OS X)

no longer works

I used LaTeX Eq Editor very happily under OS 10.3. It was a truly great little program, of extraordinary value and incredibly easy to use. Made lots of nice TeX labels for drawings. But now I have an Intel Mac, OS 10.4.9. And the Eq Editor just will not typeset anything at all. No messages, except the tiger. Cannot even typeset a single roman letter, let alone an equation. Really too bad, because now I have no way to make these labels in drawings or Keynote. [alert admin]

iPhoto Keyword Tool 0.5.1 (Mac OS X)

iphoto keyword tool great but not for intel

Keyword tool is exactly what I was hoping to find to bring back the sort of keyword assignments that I had with iphoto 4 but which went away with the clumsy interface for iphoto 6. Unfortunately this tool only works with ppc, not with intel, which is where I need it. I sure would like a version for intel. [alert admin]

Apple iPhoto 6.0.3 (Mac OS X)

keywords now impossible to use in iPhoto 6

I used iPhoto 4 very happily, had 20K photos in a single library, like Apple wants, and had more than a hundred keywords to manage these. Then I got an intel Mac and iPhoto 6, which converted all my photos to the new incompatible format. The new keywords are very unsatisfactory. Whereas the old iPhoto had a single window pane in which you could add new keywords and apply them to selected photos, the new iPhoto has an extraordinarily clumsy procedure involving many windows and many mousings. It may be fine for a child with only a few photos, but it is totally useless for me. Furthermore, on my intel dual core machine it takes 20 minutes to assign a keyword to one roll of 50 photos. The gurus at the apple store have no explanation, can only guess that I have too many photos or too many apps or have "third party" software somewhere on my hard drive. I have gone back to iPhoto 4. It takes 2 seconds to apply a keyword, and works fine for me. [alert admin]

this does work

The problem with my use of this software was that when I had to do an "archive and install" of the OS, all my TeX software got deleted. Once it was back in place, this worked just fine. It really is an excellent piece of work, and extremely useful.

Nothing beats ClarisDraw

Absolutely correct. Well said. I really miss ClarisDraw now that I have an intel. Would love to hear of an emulator that really works, so I can continue to use it.
