PhoneValet 6.0.3 (Mac OS X)
PhoneValet doesn't work anymore so the developer sees an opportunity to gouge users AGAIN with an "upgrade fee." These people have no shame. We have ONE. We talked of purchasing a dozen to cover many stations. Not a chance. The vendor's short term thinking loses them sales everyday. [alert admin]

1Password 3.0.0.BETA-81 (Mac OS X)
If they are looking for Beta testers they should just say so. Pretending this is a release, however, is a joke. Wake me up a year from now when they get all the bugs out. Considering they CLAIM to have been working on this forever, (and have been using this claim as a marketing tool) I am surprised it is still basic Beta. [alert admin]

TextExpander 2.7 (Mac OS X)
For those of you trying to use MacSpeech Dictate, there is a conflict between TextExpander and MacSpeech Dictate. When TextExpander is running, MacSpeech Dictate reverses certain letters in words that are spoken. Of course, it is possible that the problem is with MacSpeech Dictate, however, that particular developer has shown absolutely no interest in correcting this. Their solution is that people should stop using TextExpander. It would be nice if these developers either got together and repair this problem, or the people at could take up the problem and fixed it on their end. MacSpeech Dictate clearly doesn't care. Default Folder X 4.3.1 (Mac OS X)
There seems to be a bug in version 4.3.1
I don't know why, but ever since I installed version 4.3.1 the "hot keys" do not work. At one point I even uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled everything. However, it still does not work. [alert admin]

MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.5 (Mac OS X)
I am very frustrated with this application. When it first came out, it was a very good program. With a good microphone the recognition was excellent. I used it all the time in my business. However, over the last year a significant bug has been introduced and the company that makes this product seems unable to correct it. The problem is that when you use this application with Snow Leopard and other programs such as "Text Expander," MacSpeech Dictate reverses the letters of certain words. Now here is the frustrating part. The MacSpeech Dictate developer is well aware of this problem. They have been aware of this problem for a long time. However, they do absolutely nothing to correct it. Worse, version 1.5.5 was supposed to fix this problem and it does not. However, they advertise it as though it is now fixed under Snow Leopard. I feel that the application is, potentially, a good one. However, as I have seen with many programs in the past, the developers are dropping the ball. They seem to believe that good is good enough. Finally, MacSpeech Dictate's pricing is unreasonable. They charge for "updates" that are really only bug fixes. Further, as I state above, these bug fixes don't really fix all the bugs. This could be a great program. However, the company MacSpeech Dictate is ruining it. [alert admin]

This used to be a good product. However, a recent bug has made it nearly unusabl.e You can see this bug in the text that I am now speakign. I'm leaving the typos in place as an exampel. For some reason, MacSpeech has begun to reverse the last two letters of some words. Sometimes, it reverses the last lettre and the punctuation. An example of that is in the title abov.e I can't believe that MacSpeech doesn't fix this proble.m It has been around for quite a while. I have reviewed all the text in this posting, and the typos that you see here were introduced by MacSpeehc. See, it even screws up the word "MacSpeech". (But then other times it does not). 1Password 2.9.31 (Mac OS X)
There is something to the "competent coding" remark.
What is with this program? Why does it have to be changed every day? Why has 3.0 been promised but never delivered? And why, when everyone knew Snow Leopard was coming out, does it now break under Snow Leopard? I agree that "competent coding" is important, and it seems the developers just keep throwing out one bug fix after another. This does not instill confidence with me. [alert admin]

1Password 2.9.29 (Mac OS X)
Went out and bought Snow Leopard, and the one program that doesn't work is 1Password. Contrary to claims, 1Password does not work with Snow Leopard. I can't imagine why this would be. The developer has had plenty of time to test it. One concern I have is whether there is any risk of data loss. [alert admin]

It's an expensive product, and people should have to continually pay for bug fixes.

I just find it comical that they raced up to 2.9 and now keep slicing it thinner and thinner. I appears they thought 3.0 was right around the corner, but are now stalling, that is all.

If you you write AppleScripts, you need this
What if I write REAL Applescripts using AppleScript Studio and XCode? If this product could integrate with XCode, it would be closer to the miracle the developer is trying to fake with all these glowing reviews. At $20 it would be popular and a good deal. At $200 it is a ripoff.

Brilliant product at a value price
Spoken like a true developer. Is anyone really buying this practice of developers trying to pad the ratings rather than offer reasonable products at reasonable prices?

Keynote & Numbers -good Pages - bleh.
I strongly disagree with these comments. I am an attorney, and because of that I require a word processor that is second to none. Pages fits the bill. I find Apple's Pages to be far superior to Microsoft Word. As far as I can tell, Apple's Pages does everything, and I mean everything, that Microsoft Word does that is of any value. I understand that there are some idiosyncratic, weird, "features" in Word that are…

iWork is far superior to Microsoft Office in every way. I have used them both, for years, in a law office, and I have no hesitancy in saying this. As for Keynote v. Powerpoint, Keynote is a better product than Powerpoint. It is easier and more powerful. However, the real gem here is Pages. It is faster and more stable than Word, and does nearly everything Word does, and more.…
