Mail Beacon X 2.1 (Mac OS X)
I tried a dozen email checkers and this one is far and away the best. Stable, efficient, and with some very nice features. The developer has been speedy and helpful with my questions and outstandingly responsive to suggestions. [alert admin]

Author appears to have abandoned what was a very promising app 
I paid for this app the first day of my trial, I was that impressed. I was also impressed by the author's quick response to any and all queries. Several suggestions that I made were acknowledged with promises that they'd be included in future updates. Unfortunately, soon after that I started experiencing the problem with preferences getting corrupted regularly. The enhancements never happened and the author no longer seems to reply to queries.
