Mellel 1.4 (Mac OS X)

JoeRHaQ: beyond vaguely…

knowing that "editing the NIB file" involves using one of the developer things, I do not want, and should not have to, learn how to change that setting myself. [alert admin]

Mellel 1.4 (Mac OS X)

Overall, very good.…

I just bought this word processor a few days ago, and viewed it mostly as simply the only way to type in Hebrew on OS X. This release makes it viable as a regular word processor as well. If future updates go as well as this one, I think there's a good chance that Mellel can replace Nisus on many users' desktops. HOWEVER, the brushed platinum is just plain ugh. When that gets fixed, I'll give it five stars. [alert admin]

CocoaSqueak 3.2.3 (Mac OS X)

I appreciate the…

point of TOM, rcfa, but it hasn't been updated since late 2001 and it would appear that tiggr gave up the project. Are you sure that it's still under development? [alert admin]

FoundationStone 2.1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Excellent program and…

superb tutorial. This is an excellent way to learn Hebrew. I am happy that Foundation can now exchange wordlists with Palm, but was disappointed to find that this requires the use of a third-party Palm shareware application. Ah well. It's still a nice step up, and FoundationStone itself is still free and very helpful. Matthew: please do not rate a program based on its download speed. That doesn't even make sense. [alert admin]

Stackling 0.9 (Mac OS X)

There are a…

lot of Mac OS X calculators that use RPN, and anyone who is involved much in math or science will be familiar with the term. The short explanation is that 3+5 becomes written 3 5 +, or 2*(3+8) becomes 2 3 8 + *, but that's leaving a lot out. You really do have to use it to understand it. All that said, while this is promising, it hogs too much memory and the pairing of Scheme, a prefix programming language, with RPN, seems bass-ackwards to me. Something like RPL (reverse-polish LISP, the language of HP calcs) seems like a better bet to me. As-is, if you know how to use the UNIX desk calculator, this program doesn't really offer much. Five stars because…

I like it and, yes, boycoco is being annoying. Perhaps if he called his proctologist to get his head removed? :) [alert admin]

Homey-Z: the ability…

to check away messages without messaging is not allowed in any but the official AIM protocol, which AOL *will* *not* allow any application except the official client to use. Therefore, we will never see this feature implemented in Adium unless AOL changes its policy. PLEASE feel free to complain. :) Meanwhile, this is a SUPERB app that I have simply grown to love. If there were a six-star option I'd give it. [alert admin]

Technichron 0.2 (Mac OS X)

This is a…

gorgeous screensaver. I love it! And as for the burn comments: the point of no return for burning in the Mac menu bar seems to be about one month. That's from firsthand experience. LCDs, as others have said, don't burn; they just eventually wear out. So as long as you don't leave your CRT for a month with this screen saver up, you'll be fine. [alert admin]

Apple Developer Tools 10.1 (Mac OS X)

I checked it…

out. As near as I can tell, it's the same dev tools. To Boult: no, these tools are only for 10.1. You should continue to use 10.0.4's tools if you are using that system, or alternatively upgrade to OS 10.1. [alert admin]
